With all the rumours about the new Apple TV, what hardware based features would you like the Apple TV 6 to have?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:49 PM PDT

I start with: - Built in microphones so you can use Siri without the remote - HDMI ARC, so I can use the HomePods/other Airplay 2 speakers as TV speakers - New layout for the remote with previous, next and mute buttons. - AirTag built into the Remote so I can let it play a sound, etc.

    What more?

ATV 4K and Soundbar interface options

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 03:58 AM PDT

    Hi!

I have very little knowledge of sound bars and I hope this is a simple question.

I have a Vizio 2.1 Soundbar setup, and I have two audio input options.

Option 1 is I connect to the TV via optical audio

Option 2 is I connect to the ATV via Bluetooth

Anyone know which I'm better of with?

Stream 4K HDR Atmos to 4K TV

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 03:11 AM PDT

    Situation:

    • PC in another room (i7 8700K, 16GB Ram, 2070 Super -- it can run any 4K content)
    • TV - Sony Bravia 55XF8096
    • Sound-bar -Sony HT-XF9000

Both devices are connected through ethernet to the same router.
Nothing that goes through the local connection seems to work. I connected the TV with cable straight into the router, there are hard lags. Connected the TV through Wi-Fi, same problem, lagging on any 4K content.
From what I found out until now, it's due to the fact that the TV's network hardware is not gigabit, so streaming straight through the ethernet connection doesn't work.

Small 4K videos, that have around or under 20Mb/s bitrate seem to work, but any movies that are large and have >25Mb/s bitrate do not work and buffer continuously.

Plex hasn't been helpful either, as I would like to stream the raw files, that have HDR and/or Atmos, and the buffering is very slow.

The only half conclusion that I arrived to is getting something like an AppleTV 4K/ Roku / Nvidia Shield. Since I'm living in Eastern Europe, the Nvidia solution costs more than in US (and more than the other options), and I'm also using the Apple ecosystem (and I prefer it more than Android).

Since using a streaming device, such as the AppleTV, the bandwidth limitation will disappear, since it's going to stream through HDMI, not through Ethernet.

Now the question is: has someone had the same issue and used this solution?
Will using an AppleTV 4K allow me to stream the raw 4K videos with Atmos and optionally HDR with no buffering / low buffering (eg: start of the file) ?

Thanks in advance to everybody :)

    Quality of sanity help

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:40 PM PDT

I gotta ask because it's driving others in the house mad, is there an app for the Apple TV that is all WW2 videos all the time? I'm talking theories, old videos, documentaries, TV show clips, panels, discussions, you name it; if it's about WW2 this person just can never get enough of it. Any suggestions would help that doesn't involve YouTube; thanks in advance.

Issues with LG Soundbar and streaming

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:10 PM PDT

Received a new LG soundbar for my birthday and my AppleTV (3rd Gen? Generation previous to 4K) is having streaming issues since. As soon as I unplug the soundbar, the AppleTV streams fine. I tested my network and my speeds are fine.

Do I need to upgrade the AppleTV or is there a setup issue I'm missing?

Sound is fine when it does work.

    Atmos not working in Vudu

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:33 PM PDT

Latest OS, Vudu is up to date, but I can't get atmos to kick off on my Denon AVR X3600H. I can get atmos to show while watching my iTunes library, Disney+, and Netflix, but not Vudu. I've tried watching Midway, and Uncut Gems, but all I get is a regular 5.1 PCM signal.

Apple TV 4K and LG OLED C9 Judder?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:33 AM PDT

Just bought an Apple TV 4K for my tv. Whenever I watch Netflix, the picture doesn't appear as smooth as when I'm watching it on the default LG Apps. I have match frame rate and match content settings on but doesn't seem to make a difference. Has anybody else had these issues on an OLED tv?

4K movies only playing in 4K

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:54 PM PDT

Recently I have noticed that some of my movies that I have purchased on iTunes in 4K only play in HD. The movies still play in HDR and Dolby Atmos. These include:

Spider-Man into the spider verse Baby driver Mission impossible 2 Predictor 2 Scarface Widows etc...

At first I thought this was due to living in the UK and Apple reducing the quality of the streams but most other movies in my collection work perfectly fine. I have Restored my Apple TV 4K to factory settings, tried to play them in both the TV app and iTunes movies app and sign in and out of my iCloud account. I have tried to contact apple but haven't revived any responses. Has anyone encountered this issues and how to fix it.

HULU app prevents ATV from going to sleep...

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 10:09 AM PDT

Has anyone else experienced this? The HULU app on our Apple TVs seems to prevent them from going into sleep mode. These are ATV 4Ks and all running the latest TVOS. This has been happening for at least the last few software revs - though I don't remember precisely when it started. If I leave any other app or the home screen up, they go to sleep normally. But if the HULU app is left up (meaning active - running in the background is fine) - the ATVs stay on. They will go to screensavers- just not to sleep.

Problem with Panasonic Viera and Link

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 10:58 AM PDT

Hi! I've just purchased an Apple TV 4K and everything went well, every time I turned it on with the Apple Remote or the iPhone Remote the Panasonic Viera used to INSTANTLY turn on and set to the HDMI of the Apple TV

    Until...

Until I've tried to plug the Apple TV HDMI to my Panasonic External Speaker (for home theatre) which is also plugged to the Panasonic TV itself. I did it because someone talked about something about HDMI-CEC and I wanted to try it because the Remote was not working with WiFi (I supposed) and sometimes the iPhone remote used to stop control the volume (while the others controls kept working). That's when everything went wrong

The chain was working and the Remote started working efficiently through WiFi and control the volume as it was meant to do, same thing with iPhone Remote.

BUT the Viera Link wasn't able to turn on DIRECTLY to the HDMI connected to Apple TV, it just turn on because it receives the input from the Apple TV which is turning on but then the Panasonic Viera is stuck on "No Signal" until I touch the AV button, that's when Apple TV turns on.

I then re-plugged everything as it was but now when I turn on the Apple TV, the Panasonic TV turn on but it needs a lot of time to recognize and show the Apple TV while before it was a matter of a fraction of second.

    What can I do?

[HELP] YouTube music videos no longer playing on appletv ??

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:24 PM PDT

As from 25th March 2020, I am no longer able to play music videos via my 3rd gen Apple TV. All other categories of videos play fine, only music videos are a problem (error: an error occurred loading this content). I have reset and restored the Apple TV, cleared the cache and history as well as all other suggestions o the various Apple forums. Music videos was working fine until the 25th March and now I cannot get it to play no matter what solution I try.

I have no problems viewing music videos via a 4th gen Apple TV, only the 3rd gen has stopped working.

    Any assistance will be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards

Current Roku User, Apple TV and Facebook Live?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:45 AM PDT

I've been a Roku user for years, multiple Roku TVs and Devices. IOS user for a very long time and recently moved from PC to macs. Been considering trying out an Apple TV for some time since we are almost exclusive to the Apple environment.

With the current situation we are seeing lots of FB live music shows we'd like to watch on the tv rather than the iPad. Research tells me we can do this with Apple TV. Found a 3rd generation for $30, will this work to watch fb live shows?

Non 4K Apple TV with a 4K TV

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:53 PM PDT

Probably the most basic dumb question, but I've just upgraded to a 75" 4K uhd tv but I have the 4th gen Apple TV (not 4K version)

If i use the Netflix app on the Apple TV will it only be 1080p? And if I use the Samsung Netflix app it'll be technically better quality?

    Thanks!

Can the remote turn off just the TV?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:36 AM PDT

I feel like the answer to this will be no, but thought I would ask any way if case anyone knows how...

I often stream music via AppleTV apps to my stereo and will turn the TV itself off when I do. I have to keep a second remote out that can turn the TV off since the only option I have found on the AppleTV is to turn it and the TV off together. Anything I am missing that can make it more of a universal remote to just control the TV power?
