Macbook 15 inch 2018 keeps crashing Posted: 03 Apr 2020 12:49 AM PDT For the past few months, my Mac has been randomly crashing and shutting down straight to a black screen every couple of days. At first I didn't really bother looking into it but then it got worse over time, crashing every couple of hours. Yesterday, I have updated from Mojave to Catalina thinking that this might be the source of the problem. The macbook still kept crashing. I've followed all the steps of the "restarted unexpectedly" window I got after it crashed. I've diagnosed for hardware issues (there are none), run a First Aid for my disk in safe mode, reset the PRAM, reset the SMC. The problems still persist. In fact, the mac now doesn't even fully boot. When I turn it on, the Apple logo shows then it shuts down immediately after a few seconds. What else can I do? Do I have to just reinstall the OS all together? I have my data backed up on Time Machine. If i reinstall the macOS and use Time Machine to restore my data, will the software issues come back again? [link] [comments]
I didn’t make a backup before downloading Catalina OS, how can I downgrade back to El Capitan/Sierra Posted: 03 Apr 2020 04:13 AM PDT I have a 13inch MacBook Pro from late 2013 and it's been trusty enough that I never needed to upgrade it from El Capitan until today. I needed to download an app that required an OS of 10.12 or higher so I figured why not just jump straight up to Catalina. Obviously, if I were smarter I wouldn't have upgraded without knowing that I couldn't use 32 bit apps anymore AND I would have used time machine but that's why I'm here now. I have no idea how to downgrade back to the os I want with most of my data intact, so any help would be appreciated! *** *I plan to just make a half clone of my hard drive and just transfer everything from the Macintosh (applications, library, system, user) to an external hard drive and hope for the best (among applications, library, system and user, is it really necessary to back up the system folder?) luckily I only have 100gb of stuff, and I don't really use a lot of applications, so most of my work is already on the cloud. I'm hoping I'm doing enough to save everything I can even though I really wish I could've used time machine to ensure a perfect backup **Where do I find the OS I need to downgrade? Should I just reset back to factory settings and settle for the OS it started with or can I jump to Sierra instead? I don't even know where to find the Sierra/El Capitan os anymore. I'm also not entirely clear on what a boot installer is and how it works. [link] [comments]

macOS Yosemite or El Capitan for my 2010 MacBook? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:49 PM PDT So I've a mid-2010 MacBook which is currently running on macOS Mavericks 10.9.5. But the problem is that it only allows older versions of Chrome which are not that good. It doesn't allow online streaming through Netflix or online listening to Spotify. So I was wondering if my MacBook could afford and run stable on the El Capitan or Yosemite. My MacBook's specs are: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia Geforce 320M 256MB. Please don't provide any suggestions of upgrading RAM or to SSD because I am unable to do that right now. Which OS would be better for my MacBook? P.S I only care about performance, not security :) so give your suggestion accordingly [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:20 PM PDT Having issues with my monitors not receiving output from Mac mini 2018 after updating to Catalina so I'm trying to install Mojave via usb. Do I have to wipe disk to do so? I keep going thru the whole install process only for it to boot back into Catalina. Any input appreciated [link] [comments]

How stable is Mac OS Catalina as of Apr 2020? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 10:47 AM PDT Wondering if it's a good time to upgrade to Catalina now, given the newly released 10.15.4. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:46 PM PDT This started happening not too long after upgrading to Catalina but it could be a coincidence. My laptop will randomly slow to a crawl, and fans will start blowing. When I check my processes, kernel_task is shooting up to over 1000% CPU usage. When I unplug my charger, the laptop battery is not charged and on almost zero battery, but kernel_task memory usage drops to normal levels. This also tends to happen more often when I'm connecting two external monitors, but I've had it happen without using them too. I have tried resetting PRAM/NVRAM following this guide, as well as the SMC, neither of which worked. Could it be the OS? A faulty charger? A faulty battery? Coronavirus? Any advice would be much appreciated! [link] [comments]
[Remote Access] Can I remotely access my iMac through my MacBook Pro? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:36 PM PDT I left my work computer at my workplace following the quarantine (iMac 2009, OS Mountain Lion) and I have a MacBook Pro (2012, OSX Sierra) at home. I need to access my iMac but my workplace is shut down to the public and all employees, so I was wondering if there was any way I could remotely access the iMac from my MacBook? There is security on-site at my workplace (campus) and they can access the iMac in my stead if there is any chance of setting up the remote access. I never tried performing remote access before (especially for between Apple products, iMacs). Would there be a specific program, guide, or advice on this topic? For example, would my devices be compatible or should I consider downgrading my MacBook's OSX - or is there even remote access enabled between Apple computers? [link] [comments]
Unable to download MacOS High Sierra Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:24 PM PDT I am trying to install Adobe XD on my 2011 Macbook Pro, which requires High Sierra or later OS. I currently have Sierra (10.12.6) installed. According to this Apple support page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208969 I should be able to upgrade, but the download link under step 4 just opens itunes with the error "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store." I've also tried opening that link with the App Store app, which does nothing. Has anyone else had this issue, or figured out a workaround? [link] [comments]

The dynamic desktop does not change with external monitor connected (10.15.4) Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:03 PM PDT I haven't had this problem with Mojave and I don't recall that something like this happened with the earlier Catalina versions. Right now the dynamic desktop does not get updated over time. I have to unplug the external monitor and plug it back in in order to get the "update" of the scene on the MacBook's screen. The dynamic switching between light and dark themes works though. Have you also experienced something like this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:00 PM PDT As a mac users, there are times when something just isn't done the way it should or is missing. We can use this thread to vote the most needed features or redesigns. Additionally, it is a nice way to discuss our proposals and expose ourselves to different use cases and learn something new. Apple doesn't listen often to its customers, but if we are enough and we manage to catch the eye of some tech youtuber or blogger we may get some echo chamber. Rules: post one comment per feature request and please provide a motivation and a use case. Edit: turns out that I can't add entries to the poll, so let's just upvote the comments!
