iOS - Built in Print to PDF function - Never Knew This Existed. Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:32 PM PDT Friends, I just wanted to share something that I found very interesting and honestly, I never knew this existed. Have you ever wanted to print to .pdf? Maybe a signed form that you need to return to a business or employer? For Example: If you go to the Notes app, make a little doodle or just type something. Select the Send Button (square with arrow pointing up in the top-right corner). You'll see your most recent contacts and a sub menu below the circle icons of your last contacts. Scroll down the list. Select the Print icon. Once you are in the print screen, near the top you'll see "select printer" with a preview of the document you want to print. On the document preview (on the bottom), take two fingers and swipe like you are trying to enlarge the document preview like a photo (diagonally in opposing directions). You'll see another send screen come up and then you can choose to text the .pdf, email it, or even save it to iBooks and store your .pdfs there for later use. Just thought I'd Share Edit This post is specifically addressing being able to use to enlarging finger motion to generate a .pdf from the print preview on iPhone. [link] [comments]

macOS vs iOS: feature disparity? -- macOS is second grade? Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:48 AM PDT Last few years I have been using iOS only (iPhone & iPad) and starting last month I have been blessed with a Macbook Pro 16. Before my iOS only period, I was using a desktop Mac for some IT admin and website making activities. The reason for having a Macbook is to do some creation again (videos and websites). Only after this iOS period, I started to see some features that aren't on macOS which I have taken for granted on the Apple platform (iOS), which baffles me since I assume it was already on the macOS platform or that it simply should have been easier to incorporate this.... Here is what I found (this is not an exhaustive list by all means): 1) multi-language voiceover On iOS when I am reading a page (either webpage, pdf or iBooks), I can always use a three-finger swipe from the top to activate voice over. It basically starts reading whatever is on-screen (or your selection) and continues until the page is finished. This it does in whatever language it detects. So in the voice-over settings, I can select my preferred English voice and my other language voices. You get the point. On the Mac, however, you can only 'set' one language for this speech setting (right-click > speech > start speaking; system preferences > accessibility > speech > system voice). On top of this, you can actually choose which language you want to speak AND it can spell it for you. 2) Safari reader 3) iMessage ... so many features 4) Apple TV app > family sharing Edit: SOLVED > Account > Purchased (then you will get a new screen where you can choose other peoples' purchases) Seriously, where to find my other family members' purchased videos on my Apple TV app on macOS? (iOS: Apple TV > Library > Family Sharing) This is not a complaint, just an observation from me as a user on macOS coming from using iPhone and iPad often in the last years. To me, it gives the feeling that macOS is not prioritized, a bit second class. This is only based on my usage, mind you. I understand other users have different priorities and perspectives on this. However, my assumption is that at least the features that are provided on the system level by iOS or Apple's own apps 'should' at least have feature parity.... or close to that. Especially a cross-platform app like iMessage, Safari and Apple TV. So I was just imagining that some people have grown up with iOS (iPhone and iPads), they must think the macOS is a bit traditional and old-style compared to iOS. I can imagine more and more that some people will just prefer keyboard iPad Pro over a Macbook for this reason. Did you encounter these as well and find it 'slightly' annoying? Is there any explanation for this and is there more of this kind of stuff happening? P.S. There are also a lot of good sides of how macOS works like continuity, iCloud sharing, touch ID (although the on-screen visual for Touch ID looks less polished than on iOS). https://www.apple.com/macos/continuity/ Edit: clarify reader section [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:00 AM PDT Hi r/Apple, hope you are all safe during the current pandemic! What I thought was a regular Sunday morning turned into a small nightmare when I noticed my 2018 iPad Pro being randomly stuck on Apple Logo boot screen. It was a bit weird as I have not installed any new apps, updates nor custom profiles but alright. I've tried to force restart the device however it did not respond at all. Next, DFU mode – again, no response from the device at all and it's still stuck on Apple Logo and does not show in Finder (I'm on Catalina). That was the moment I realized that in the area of user maintainability, there is still a wide gap between macOS and iPadOS/iOS where this would be probably fixable on macOS for any a bit more advanced user. With iPadOS and the iPad Pro, I'm basically screwed and can't do anything until guys at Apple (or its service partners) have a look at it. If this was my primarily machine, this would be highly problematic. Luckily it's not and most of the work has been cloud-based / backed-up so no issues there. What do you guys think? Do you think Apple should allow users more access in these situations like with macOS? Alternatively, if not, should Apple create some sort of a safe boot mechanism where, for example, recently added updates won't load? Let me know your thoughts! [link] [comments] |
