Why does two-finger swiping not work in finder? Posted: 06 Feb 2020 01:00 PM PST This would be such a cool feature, and would further add to the consistency of the UI. Is there a way for me to enable this / is there a reason for the lack of its' implementation ? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:48 AM PST I have a 250 GB disk. 150gb is occupied by an inflated "System" (Storage Management->System). When I use tools like omnidisk sweeper, Grand Perspective, or scan via terminal (I installed ncdu via brew), the 150 GB part of the disk is ignored, not scanned, only about 110-115 GB are scanned depending on the app. I have no way to locate and delete the large files (probably from when I installed Bitcoin Qt and then deleted it, however: I followed instructions to delete, which didn't free up the "System" space again). Therefore my question: Do you have a hint how I can scan my entire disk, not only the 110 GB part on the surface? Macbook Pro Early 2015, macOS High Sierra,Version 10.13.6 Thx in advance for any hints! [link] [comments]

How to update to catalina manually? Posted: 06 Feb 2020 11:56 PM PST My iMac is running Mojave 10.14.6 and i want to upgrade to latest version of Catalina but the problem is that the download keeps timing out due to slow speeds because my router is not very close to my iMac. So is there another way to download without the app store? I have a windows laptop handy to get closer to router for faster speeds if needed. thanks :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2020 11:50 PM PST Good day! Since i am using Spotify and no Apple Music, my question is: how can i play sound on both, so on my Sonos and my Mac? In Apple Music it is possible to arrange this, but i can not do it on Spotify, and i am not able to change this setting on the Mac itself. Thanks in advance for helping me! Kind regards [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:27 PM PST How do I delete all the music from the Music app? It used to be called iTunes, and back then it was possible to delete the library files (but not the music files) and start from scratch. Now I cannot find the files that need to be nuked! I want to start with a squeaky-clean, nothing-there Music app and (re)import all my MP3s and etc. Anybody else figure this out? [link] [comments]

Diskutil "Image From" option comparisons for creating optical disk backups Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:24 PM PST TL;DR I am creating image backups of at minimum fifty-seven disks and would like to know the benefits and drawbacks of the various formats available when creating images in Disk Utility, the formats being read-only, compressed, read/write, or DVD/CD master. I have at minimum 57 optical disks that I want to create a backup of. Doing this in disk utility is fairly straight forward, however, I have a question on the format options it gives me. By default, the format is read-only, but I can also choose compressed, read/write, or DVD/CD master. So, here I am, trying to figure out what format would be best for me to choose. I understand compressed would likely save the most space, since it is compressing the image, however I'd also imagine that would increase the imaging process time by some noticeable factor, right? I am backing up a variety of disk types. Some are just optical disks that I burned a while back with files on them, some are old video games (at least three quarters are windows-only, but I still wanna back them up), some are DVDs of my movies, and some are music disks. At least five to ten of them are optical disks containing bootable mediums (either Windows or Linux distributions). I'm also not very limited on storage capacity, but I also don't have an unlimited amount. On the disk I'm currently creating my archive library on, at the time of writing this, I have about 675.26 gigabytes out of 2 terabytes remaining - I plan on going through the other volumes on my disk, and sorting through all those files (fun) and if need be, I suppose I could get a larger disk (I want to anyways, but..) What are the main selling points for each options? The only one I'm pretty certain I do not want is read/write, since I am creating archives as backups, and don't want the backup's content accidentally being changed, however if you feel like adding the benefits/drawbacks of a read/write format too, I won't appose it. Also, as I said, some of the disks are bootable mediums, or contain executable contents, the raw data on them cannot be modified. I honestly don't care if my MacBook can understand the disks contents, so long as it can store the raw binary as an image. Sorry for the long post. Thanks to anyone who can provide some information. By the time an answer is received, I'll already have a lot of backups made, but I can always re-create the new backups in a format that better fits my needs, since I don't plan on getting rid of the source optical disks ... yet. Posted: 06 Feb 2020 12:44 PM PST Hi people! In the past you already helped me, so I reach out to you again! At my new work they bought 25 macbook pro 2019 13" wiht Mojave 10.14.5 but they need High Sierra installed. As far as I know (and my research confirms it) in this new model (2019) it's not possible to make a downgrade. Am i wrong? Is there a way to do it? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]
MBP won’t wake up after 10.15.3 upgrade Posted: 06 Feb 2020 12:10 PM PST MacBook Pro won't wake up after Catalina upgrade - has to restart. 2017 MBP 14,3. Core i7. 16GB RAM, original Apple ram. It won't wake up after upgrade to OS 10.15.3. Catalina and first upgrades were fine, just not this one. Ran Etrecheck, removed all 32 bit software. Got rid of 32 bit kext files, including dropbox. Removed third party externals. Ran First Aid from recovery. Error report says Thunderbolt power on failed. Kernel extensions in backtrace says com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily2.9. TBH, I'm not entirely sure what that means. anyone else have this problem? anyone have a fix? sure is a PITA [link] [comments]

Audio devices randomly reloading, causing audio to cut out Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:25 PM PST Hi all, I have a 16" mbp with Catalina installed. Occasionally, when I am listening to music with my external speakers plugged in, my audio will suddenly stop. At first I thought it was simply a problem with my streaming service, but after it happened ~20x one day, I started digging a bit more. I noticed that there was a problem with decoding the audio stream when the music would stop. That didn't lead anywhere helpful, but then today I happened to have discord open when it cut out. Discord popped up a notification saying that a new audio device "MacBook Pro Speakers" was detected. This obviously isn't true, as that audio device is always present. I experimented by killing coreaudiod, which doesn't cause discord to think a device is detected (it does, however, stop the audio). I also tried just switching audio devices, but this doesn't cause anything to happen. Finally, I tried just pulling the audio plug while music was playing, but that did nothing wrong as well. I don't have any other devices installed, no third-party kexts, etc. I'm at a loss as to what's happening. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:19 PM PST I'm looking to automate the following in iTerm2. I'm curious if the answer lies in tmux or python scripting or just what. (Please be gentle with me... I'm a Linux sysadmin in my first foray into the Mac OS.)
In Linux I used a program called terminator to accomplish this. [link] [comments]
External monitor not working on Catalina - Macbook Pro 15 2015 Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:31 AM PST It all started with the Mojave update. Thought, it would be fixed in Catalina, but no... Tried different DP to mini DP cables, even different monitors. Still No Signal From Your Device... HDMI is working fine, though both Thunderbolt ports aren't. Tried SMC reset, NVRAM reset... Don't know what to do... [link] [comments]
Mac OS X Catalina 5GHZ wifi consistently drops and does not re-connect. Mac Mini 2018 Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:42 AM PST Hi everybody, I was wondering how many others are experiencing this issue, I have a 2018 mac mini i5 and running Catalina 10.15.2 and 10.15.3 my 5GHZ wifi would drop and not reconnect, I have tried the smc and pram resets, Tried making a new network location, nothing worked, I went to Mojave and have not had the issue since, I am testing this on another 2018 mac mini with Catalina and it is having the same issue on a different ssid and different hardware. Posted: 06 Feb 2020 11:36 AM PST I'm switching to Reminders and I was reading that it does not support tags. Just checking, but there's no reason why I can't just use hashtags, right? There's not some hidden syntax here that will make searching for a tag unreliable? [link] [comments]

Logitech Craft Keyboard/MX Master 3 Connection Issues Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:54 AM PST I just picked up a Logitech Craft keyboard and MX Master 3 mouse and I was trying to connect it via bluetooth, but when I try to connect the keyboard my Mac will ask to enter the code on my keyboard before it can connect; and when I type it in both on the numbers on the top and the num pad and press enter, nothing happens. I was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue and if so how they fixed it? I'm thinking it could be an issue with the bluetooth in my mac itself; my mouse doesn't connect either and obviously couldn't enter a code for my mouse. Does anyone have any experience with updating or fixing bluetooth issues? [link] [comments] |
