Posted: 25 Feb 2020 07:46 PM PST Hey all, I came across a couple 2007 iMacs I'm hoping to fix up and sell. They are currently running Leopard and I'm wanting to get Lion so that I can update them from there. Any thoughts on how to do this? Tried buying it from the Apple website but Leopard doesn't have the App Store and my 2018 MacBook Pro is too new to download Lion. Tried going to my local Apple store. They don't have the right build for my computers. Is there anywhere I could download the OS and then just create a bootable drive and use that? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

How do you select windows with the mouse? Posted: 25 Feb 2020 06:57 PM PST When I go to move from one window to another, I'll click on the empty part of the top of the window with a single tap... meaning I hoover the mouse over the area where there is no tabs in Chrome. What happens about 2/3rds of the time is that the mouse will change, the window will freeze and if I hit F3, the Chrome window will still be in the foreground. The only way I can do anything is to single click somewhere on the screen and the Chrome window will then jump to that point. I switch windows quite a bit and this sucks. I really need to know how you select a window using the mouse, clearly a single click is not the answer or I'm doing something wrong. I've looked at settings -> accessibility and change a few things but it made no difference. I've been trying to figure out why it only happens some times and not all the time. [link] [comments]
How can I save a bunch of frequently used Finder tabs? Posted: 25 Feb 2020 05:17 AM PST I often create a Finder window with four regularly used windows stacked together in the form of tabs (typically: downloads, desktop, and two folders I use all the time for my work). But it is easy to close this window and all the tabs are then gone :( Does any have a tip for how to save (as an alias perhaps) a set of Finder tabs? [link] [comments]
Mac Newbie here: Is there any disadvantage to NOT running the latest version of MacOS? Posted: 25 Feb 2020 01:31 PM PST Bit of a newbie to Macs here, so please bear with me... I recently picked up a MacBook Pro Early 2011 model. It came with Catalina installed which I know isn't officially supported. I installed Steam and then found that hardly any of my Mac OS games would install, which I understand is because they are 32-bit versions and Catalina does not support 32-bit software. I am considering installing Mojave instead of Catalina. Would this put me at any significant disadvantage? Will this result in a less secure OS? I can't help thinking of all the recent articles urging Windows 7 users to update to Windows 10 (or switch to a Linux OS) as the end of security updates apparently leaves them wide open. And on the same track, would Mojave actually be better for me than Catalina, performance wise? Thanks. [link] [comments]
MacOS Catalina on 2013 MacBook Air. Good idea? Posted: 25 Feb 2020 06:41 AM PST Hi guys, So, I've avoided Catalina on my (kinda old) MacBook Air due to all the bad things I read after Catalina's launch, mainly about performance. I wonder if now, that we're at version 10.15.3, things are better. Is anyone running 10.15.3 on an older Mac? How are things performance wise? P.S.: My MacBook Air is mid 2013. 1,3 GHz i5. 4GB. I would appreciate any comments from people with comparable Macs. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Secure erase previously encrypted (FileVault) external hard drive? Posted: 25 Feb 2020 05:09 PM PST I have a hard drive that is fully encrypted with FileVault. It was encrypted when I formatted it the first time with APFS + encryption. I want to reformat it again and make sure none of the existing content is recoverable (has bank records and personal data). I will reformat it again as APFS + encryption with Mac Disk Utility app. Since it is already encrypted, do I still have to use secure erase (multiple pass erasing) to make sure previously stored data and files are unrecoverable? Or by the very fact that I'm reformatting a previously encrypted drive, can I get away with fast format and have my previous data still be securely gone? [link] [comments]

Deleted trackpad .plist files. What do I do? Posted: 25 Feb 2020 03:30 PM PST 2015 MacBook Pro. My trackpad was unresponsive so I decided to delete its plist files to see if that would work. However when I did that, system preferences now says that there is no trackpad at all. What can I do? I do not have a previous backup to resort to either. [link] [comments]
Files grey in Finder Save Menus but are available Posted: 25 Feb 2020 03:29 PM PST When saving a file through save or save as, for example, in word - the files in the documents folder are grey. They are accessible, can be opened, copied, saved over, etc. The only time they seem to be grey is in the save pop ups. Any thoughts from the pros? This is on pre Catalina OS - Mojave. Edit: In the Open menus the files appear normal, with black title text. [link] [comments]
.xls .xlsx and .csv won't stay defaulted to Excel and keep changing to Numbers Posted: 25 Feb 2020 10:09 AM PST For some reason all these files insist on opening in Numbers. I get info on a file, I change Open With to Microsoft Excel and click the Change All... button and this works, but then a day or two later I open a file and Numbers opens up again and it shows Numbers is the default application. Am I missing something? [link] [comments]
Get macOS sleep fade-in / fade-out animations back Posted: 25 Feb 2020 02:42 AM PST Hi there, has someone figured out if there is a possibility to get the old screen fade-in and fade-out animations back (last seen in Sierra I think)? I don't like that they have been removed. Thanks for answering! [link] [comments]
Where can I download a older version of macOS server? Posted: 25 Feb 2020 07:47 AM PST I have a Mac Pro on Mojave and the app is only compatible with Catalina, since I can't update to 10.15 I wanted to download an older version (5.7 or older) but I can't find it [link] [comments]

Calendar is automatically adding multiple event alerts for AFTER an event Posted: 25 Feb 2020 08:36 AM PST Calendar in macOS keeps adding (for random events, not all of them) alerts to various calendar events that trigger AFTER the event has ended. It makes notifications keep popping up in Notification Center and is very irritating. I have to manually delete the new alerts. Any idea how to stop this? I use my Google accounts for all my calendars. Here's a picture of what I'm referring to. [link] [comments] |
