Stay Away From OWC NVMe SSD's, All Currently Crash When Mac Sleeps or Goes Into Standby... Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:04 AM PST I had my 27" 5K iMac upgraded from a Fusion drive to 2TB NVMe SSD (OWC Aura Pro X2) yesterday at an authorized Apple-certified Mac Experience store. The shop and labor went well, the drive and labor cost over $600. I get it home and find out that when the SSD sleeps it crashes every time. It restarts the Mac with the error report stating the NVMe drive was the culprit. OWC is aware of the issue and made a statement with a "walk-around" that did nothing for me. So until the foreseeable future, I can't turn the iMac's screen off without it crashing and restarting. I've adjusted all power options and nothing helps it. See OWC's support page below, hopefully, this will save you $$$ and a huge headache. ***Update: The store that did the work just called and OWC said the issue has only been found in MacBook's so far and my iMac should be immune. So OWC said it's a bad drive, although, it threw up the same error listed in the link below after the crash. They plan to test a new one for this issue and will send it out after testing the drive and the shop will replace the drive. Huge headache for the shop, but I'm happy it's being taken care of. https://eshop.macsales.com/Service/Knowledgebase/Article/26/785/NVMe-SSDs-Standby-Mode-Issue [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro 16” base model. Keyboard and Trackpad frozen when wake from sleep Posted: 31 Jan 2020 02:03 PM PST Hi guys, hoping someone here could help me. Got this laptop recently and I've been having problems with my keyboard and trackpad being completely unresponsive for about 30-60 seconds whenever I wake it from sleep. The bluetooth window pops up searching for a keyboard. I've tried doing SMC resets and the problem will go away for a day or so, but will come back. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Having a hard time replicating the issue with 100% certainty. [link] [comments]
Tip: Use the Menu Bar more often Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:52 PM PST Menus are designed to hold all software functions in a nice, tidied interface. Most window-interfaces usually do a good job at hiding obvious functions by either focusing on the content a lot, or just by having a mediocre design, therefore whenever you're trying out a new piece of software, glance at the menus first. Most people do not realise this, but they are a key part of what would be called a good UX. For easy access, use control+(fn-f2)! This will move the focus to the menu bar. You can use the first letter keyboard shortcuts for easy navigation. Also menus will teach you the keyboard shortcuts available by having them next to the menu entry. Other platforms are sadly moving away from the menu paradigm; I'm glad that they are a key part of the Macintosh user experience. And nearly unchanged since 1983-84, starting with Lisa! Now go ahead, and study all the menus in your daily-use applications. I'm sure you will find one or two things that went unnoticed or you had no idea that it existed! [link] [comments]
Lower keyboard brightness than lowest setting Posted: 31 Jan 2020 05:34 PM PST Is this possible? When my MBP turns on it has a super dim and relaxing light on the keyboard, but as soon as its up and running its back to the very bright lowest setting, which is obnoxious in low light rooms and give a reflection in the screen when watching dark stuff. So I'm looking for a way to reduce the backlighting on the keyboard more than the default lowest setting, since clearly the lights don't have that limitation. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:52 PM PST I was going to install windows 10 and when downloading drivers it gave me and error saying that it couldn't find the software for my Mac in the server? Does this mean my MacBook doesn't have drivers for windows? Right now I have a MacBook Air 13' 2015 [link] [comments]

Mail app alternatives? Criteria listed below. Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:30 AM PST I really like the stock MacOS Mail app, but it's missing at least a few key features. Here is a short list of features that MacOS Mail has that I don't want to give up, and some features I would like to have:
I think that's about it. Thanks in advance for any recommendations! [link] [comments]
Mail accounts disappeared after Catalina upgrade Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:21 PM PST A relative of mine recently upgraded to Catalina from El Capitan because of software compatibility issues, and in the process all their internet accounts disappeared, including mail accounts. The folders are still there, but the Mail app is behaving like it has never been set up. I did a bunch of looking around and came across many people with similar issues after an OS upgrade, but no concrete solution. I even found a Reddit post where the OP had exactly the same issue but never managed to resolve it. https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/dkx5ey/all_internet_accounts_disappeared_after_macos/ I haven't tried anything yet because I'm worried about making it worse. What is the best course of action? Unfortunately their last Time Machine backup is nearly three months ago so that isn't an option. [link] [comments]
What are the Ram usage differences in 10.11 - 10.15? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 05:37 PM PST I have a mid 2009 macbook and can patch as far as 10.15.x. Sadly, the second SODIMM slot is broken and buying a 4GB DDR2 SODIMM is more expensive than just buying a new board, so I'm saddled with 2GB of RAM. 2GB of RAM. El Capitan runs okay, and Mojave seemed okay. But, what is ram usage like compared from 10.10 to 10.15? does it get better? worse? stay the same? Which version is best? [link] [comments]
Script /shell will not run on startup Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:45 PM PST This worked in 10.12 I have 3 scripts. All use curl If they be an Automator app /script /shell run by double click they work fine. They will not run as a LoginHook, login item, or launch agent. I have added terminal, Automator, bin folder, curl app all to system prefs full disk access and accessibility section. Doesn't run. Please help. [link] [comments]
Oldest 64bit Microsoft Office to work on Catalina? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:00 PM PST Hey, I just wanted to ask what is the oldest possible version of Microsoft Office suite that will work on my Catalina macbook? I used 2011 up to Mojave update, now since Catalina doesn't support 32bit apps, what version (year) should I install? I hate the newest ones because of their flat "design" UI of Win10 [link] [comments]

Adobe CC installer and macOS Catalina Posted: 31 Jan 2020 12:03 PM PST Hey guys this may have been posted before, but has anyone been able to download the Adobe creative cloud desktop app on a machine running macOS Catalina? Is anyone here a member of the BrokenStones? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 03:20 PM PST Some time ago I did a lot of research and find that the easiest way for me to join BrokenStones would be passing an interview to RED, becoming a Power User there and looking for an invite for BrokenStones in there. But I'm not a big music fan and I think it would be unfair with the RED community to use it as a stepping stone. I have joined TL 1 year ago and in this period I've managed to build a 22TB buffer with a 3.65 ratio. Do I have any chance to get an invite for BrokenStones directly with my stats from TorrentLeach as proof? How should I go about it? Thanks in advance guys! PS.: I'm NOT asking for invites. All I want is to be pointed in the right direction if possible [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2020 08:10 AM PST Currently I have a mid 2009 MBA with Catalina installed. It runs slowly, having Word and a browser window open are enough to encounter some very noticeable slog. I already understand I'm running on unsupported hardware. Machine specs include a 2ghz C2D, 2gb of RAM and a OWC SSD. I've also applied some new thermal paste to the CPU and GPU. Are there any tweaks I can make to this so I can have a more fluid user experience? And if not, how does Catalina run on say, a 2011 MBA with an i5 and 2gb of RAM? EDIT: Also wanted to add I cannot for the life of me, get El Capitan Installed. Not from a USB or web install. I get error saying "There are no packages to install". I've tried adjusting the date in terminal to around the time El Capitan came out. No luck. I'm kinda lost on that too. I can install up to Yosemite just fine though. [link] [comments]
Managing Podcasts in Catalina? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:40 AM PST Hi all, I just updated the iMac that my iPhone X is associated with, and I can't figure out how to load podcasts that I've previously downloaded to my drive (and that would appear in iTunes) onto my iPhone. I used to be able to drag and drop. I mistakenly chose the "sync" option in the Podcasts app, and it wiped my music (have a backup). TIA [link] [comments]
