Siri says "betatty" when I set a timer for 4 minutes

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:03 PM PST

For the past couple of days, whenever I set a timer for 4 minutes, Siri says "setting a timer for 4 minutes 4 minutes and counting" followed by a short pause, then something that sounds like "betatty". It does not occur when I set the timer for 3 minutes or 5 minutes, or 4 minutes and one second. I showed this to someone at the office and it was the same for him. It happens every time.

    Is this happening to everyone?

Edit: adding a video of it

Edit 2: I have a series 3, 38mm, no cellular, watchOS 6.1, American female voice, iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 13.3

Edit 3: my original video link was added with Apollo and it seemed to only work for some people. Uploaded to imgur now and hopefully this works for everyone.

Edit 4: Those of you saying your Siri says "4 minutes and counting" instead of what I wrote, you're right, I just misremembered when I wrote the post.

Edit 5: "betatty" has just suddenly disappeared! Is it still happening for some people? I did not restart my watch or phone or do any updates. Now I kind of miss it.

Is it worth getting the Series 5 watch or waiting for the Series 6?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 04:19 AM PST

It appears from the rumors that the Series 6 will be an overhaul of an upgrade and not sure if I should wait it out or go ahead and get the 5 now with payments.

Also, if it is recommended that I get the 5 is it worth shelling out more for the steel over the aluminum?

CalorieBalance App for Apple Watch & iPhone - Looking for beta testers for app & complications

CalorieBalance App for Apple Watch & iPhone - Looking for beta testers for app & complications

    Hi Reddit,

I had a few offers from people regards beta testing my new app so I hope it is okay to post this. I wanted to post this way sooner, but it took forever to get my developer account migrated to a company account, so... here we go!

If you are watching your calorie intake, you possibly find this app useful. I wrote it because I'm watching my calories but my food tracker of choice didn't provide a complication or watch app.

    The main screen

    The watch app

    Example complication simple

So, what does the app do?

It reads out your resting & active calories (energy expenditure) for the day and compares it to your consumed calories (energy intake). You either have a positive (more energy intake than expenditure) or a negative (more expenditure than intake) balance. Depending on your goals (weightloss, muscle mass gain, maintenance), it is handy to know on a quick glance.

The iPhone app shows you a bar graph for the past 7 days and a history tab with the last 30 days. The watch app shows only todays balance and a 7 day history. The complication only show todays balance.

What the app does NOT do:

The app is not a food tracker. For it to know what your calorie intake is, you need to have a food tracking app that fills this data into HealthKit. While I'm planning to release more features, it will never become a food tracker. I also know that there are food trackers around that already provide complications and stats. You don't need this app if you're using one of these :-)

Also, the app is just reading out calorie data. It is NOT writing anything back to HealthKit or any other source.

What can you expect of a beta release?

Most probably bugs. While I have been successfully testing the app for over a week with my personal devices without any problems, I can not guarantee it won't crash on you. That is why beta testing with Apple's TestFlight is great: It can provide an error log in such cases, so I can get on with fixing. I am grateful for feedback and error reports. I'm a newbie application developer, but I give my best to make the app lightweight and with minimal impact on battery.

    Known issues:

The complications will only background refresh once to twice an hour because Apple strictly limits the amount of background processing every app and complication can get. If you have a lot of complications and apps with background refreshes, they will share the "budget" on background processing. This may cause the complications to skip one or more scheduled refreshes when their budget is already used up.

This isn't anything I can fix, unfortunately. I may try to stretch it a little and add an option to pause refreshes at night (or any time the user specifies) so I get shorter intervals during day time, but this will need some more time.

    Planned features:

Currently, the budget is calculated with the energy that was expendited at the moment of refreshing. However, some users may prefer to have the full resting energy budget credited at the start of the day. I am working on an option to enable this.

Also, I'm considering an option to have a complication that shows only the energy expenditure.

    Anything else?

I am grateful for your time and feedback. I enjoy programming and if this app is useful for you, great! I am planning to sell this app for the lowest price available (99 cent I guess?) in the future. Any earnings get converted straight into treats for my pugs. :D

However, I want to provide a gift code for every person that beta tests the app via TestFlight, so if you like it, you can keep on using the app for free.

Important: You do need Apple's TestFlight app to join the beta.

You can download TestFlight from the AppStore:

    https://apps.apple.com/app/testflight/id899247664

You can join the beta test here:

    https://testflight.apple.com/join/OsdKTwQ1

Thanks a lot so far and kind regards!

Cycling workout only counts half the usual calories

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:23 PM PST

I try do do a 60 minute outdoor cycling workout everyday where My speed is 20-25 km/h

When I start an outdoor cycling workout it used to count about 80-100 calories per 10 minutes on my apple watch 4. So an hour would burn around 480-600 calories.

Since a few weeks an outdoor cycling workout only counts 40-50 calories per 10 minutes. So an hour only burns 240-300 calories now.

I also do walking workouts everyday and the calorie counting of those walking workouts is still the same as it used to be. It's only the outdoor cycling workouts where it gets messed up.

I tried turning my watch completely off and on again. I have installed the latest os update a couple of days ago, nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have a clue how I can fix this?

Just noticed that they hourly chip goes to Airpods if phone is not around.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 08:03 AM PST

I now assume that all sound interactions (notifications , alarms ?) happen this way, kinda sad it's not always (I.e. you need to explicitly connect the Airpods to the watch)...

    Watch Keyboards

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:46 PM PST

So I've been browsing the app store as an alternative to the pretty bad/slow WatchOS keyboard messaging experience and came across Shift Keyboard & Flicktype. Both look interesting with their pros and cons, but I don't know how reliable a keyboard that tries to rely on predictions can be, I had something similar on my old Samsung Gear and it was a bit finicky.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the keyboards and is able to offer any recomendations? It would help a lot. Thanks! (Morse keyboard exists too but no chance of me using that lmao)

    Not asking for passcode?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 06:13 AM PST

When I put my watch on in the morning, it doesn't always ask for my passcode. Does anyone else have this problem? Since I use Apple Pay with it, that is concerning for me that it's not secure.

Apple Watch keeps losing connection after update

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 05:59 AM PST

Has anyone else noticed if their watch just keeps losing the connection to the phone since the latest update? My watch will just randomly throughout the day lose connection to the phone only restoring connection after toggling airplane mode on my phone.

    Running and Activity Rings

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:32 PM PST

Hello. I am trying to really close my activity rings everyday. Today, I wasn't as active so I decided to go run in hopes of closing my move ring. I ran for about 30 mins, burning about 200 calories but my move ring barely changed 25 calories. Why is that? Running increased my exercise ring but my move ring is still looking bad. Any explanations?

    Shift Keyboard or FlickType?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 01:31 PM PST

I don't know if here's the right place to ask, but I want to download a keyboard for my watch.

Shift Keyboard and FlickType are the same price, and I don't know which one I should buy.

    Any recommendations?

My Apple Watch died out of nowhere

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:27 PM PST

So I have the Apple Watch Series 5 44 mm, on the newest update and it was at least at 70% where it shut off and died and told me to connect to a power source... Has anyone else ever had this issue? Thanks

    Is disabling activation lock instantaneous?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:10 PM PST

I purchased a series 3 Apple Watch on eBay and when I went to set it up, I got an activation lock. I contacted the seller who forgot to remove the watch from his iCloud account. He said he removed it a half hour ago but I am still getting the activation lock screen. He claims "it may not be instantaneous", but I wouldn't know. Is this normal?

Should I let the Apple Watch be connected with my iPhone or is a Wifi Connection better?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:51 PM PST

I have an Apple watch (the normal one, not the cellular) since a few days and have a fundamental question. Is it better to have the watch connected with your phone all the time and the phone is on the Wifi at home and outside of course not. Or is it better to configure like your owns home Wifi in your apple watch?

    Would Appreciate Some Buying Advice

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:12 PM PST

    Hi everyone!

I am looking at buying my first ever Apple Watch very soon and I was thinking of getting the Series 3 as I don't want to spend £400 on the Series 5 before I find out how useful (and enjoyable) having an Apple Watch is to me without spending too much. I was just wondering, does this sound like a good idea? And will Apple still be supporting the series 3 for a decent amount of time if I buy it now?
