I have a Sharp LC-52D85U. I turned on the settings that enables the tv to be controlled by the remote.

I even tried wearing something sexy.

Apple TV 3rd Gen resets during YouTube videos?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:03 AM PST

This has been going on for over a year now and I've tried all kinds of ways of searching for answers, so hopefully someone on here understands what's happening and how to fix it.

While watching YouTube, whether through airplay from my phone, or the app on the Apple TV itself, sometimes my ATV just stops the video, goes black for a few seconds, and then restarts, back to the main menu, reconnecting to my internet and everything. I've only noticed it with YouTube, mostly with videos that are longer than 30 minutes. For example, if I try to watch, say, an upload of a Game Grumps stream, around 2+ hours in length, it'll only get MAYBE 5 minutes in and then stop, and restart. If I try to play the video again, it'll happen at the exact same point. If I try to fast forward past that moment, it'll play for a bit and then do it again.

I don't know what's causing it, I've thought maybe it could be a mid video ad trying to trigger and not being able to? But if it's something I can fix from me end, I'd love to know what I can do, and would greatly appreciate any and all advice. Thank you! 💖

Some analysis between different types of Media

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:59 AM PST

    Hello,

I recently got a Home Theater and use both the NVidia Shield Pro and the Apple TV 4K to play media. I was running some tests and found some interesting results:

First things first - The equipment that I am working with:

    1) Projector - JVC NX7

    2) Receiver - Marantz SR 8012

    3) Cables - Monoprice certified premium HDMI

    4) Apple TV 4K - Set to 4K 60hz 4:2:2 Chroma

    5) Nvidia Shield Pro - Set to 4K 60hz HDR 10 YUV 10 bit

I did a test with 4 movies as below (Note that Apple TV Plex player transcodes the movies as mentioned below):

Movie 1 - Bajirao Mastani (Non HDR) via Plex
    Resolution Container Video Audio
    Original Quality 1080p MKV H.264 DTS 5.1
NVidia Shield Plex app 1080p MKV H.264 DTS 5.1
    Apple TV Plex app 1080p MPEGTS H.264 AC3 5.1
Movie 2 - Avengers Endgame (HDR) via Plex
    Resolution Container Video Audio
    Original Quality 4K MKV HEVC 4K EAC3 5.1
NVidia Shield Plex app 4K MKV HEVC 4K EAC3 5.1
    Apple TV Plex app 4K MP4 HEVC 4K EAC3 5.1
Movie 3 - Big Bang Theory on Netflix (HD)
Movie 4 - The Witcher on Netflix (4K HDR)

I tried the above 4 movies using the 4 modes mentioned below:

Mode 1 - Apple TV Match Content OFF in Apple TV Settings

Mode 2 - Apple TV Match Content ON in Apple TV Settings

Mode 3 - NVidia Shield Auto resolution switching and Refresh rate switching OFF in the Plex app settings

Mode 4 - NVidia Shield Auto resolution switching and Refresh Rate switching ON in the Plex app settings

    Following were the results:

Movie 1 - Bajirao Mastani (Non HDR) via Plex
Resolution FPS Color Space Colorimetry HDR CLL/FALL
    Mode 1 - ATV 4K 60 YUV BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 250/100
    Mode 2 - ATV 4K 24 YUV 8 bit ITU-R BT.709 SDR NA
    Mode 3 - NVidia Shield 4K 60 YUV 10 bit ITU-R BT.709 SDR NA
    Mode 4 - NVidia Shield 1080p 24 YUV ITU-R BT.709 SDR NA
Movie 2 - Avengers Endgame (HDR) via Plex
Resolution FPS Color Space Colorimetry HDR CLL/FALL
    Mode 1 - ATV 4K 60 YUV BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 4000/1000
    Mode 2 - ATV 4K 24 YUV BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 4000/1000
    Mode 3 - NVidia Shield 4K 60 YUV 10 bit BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 1011/592
    Mode 4 - NVidia Shield 4k 24 YUV BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 1011/592
Movie 3 - Big Bang Theory on Netflix (HD)
Resolution FPS Color Space Colorimetry HDR CLL/FALL
    Mode 1 - ATV 4K 60 YUV BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 250/100
    Mode 2 - ATV 4K 24 YUV 8 bit ITU-R BT.709 SDR NA
    Mode 3 - NVidia Shield 4K 60 YUV 10 bit ITU-R BT.709 SDR NA
    Mode 4 - NVidia Shield 4K 60 YUV 10 bit ITU-R BT.709 SDR NA
Movie 4 - The Witcher on Netflix (4K HDR)
Resolution FPS Color Space Colorimetry HDR CLL/FALL
    Mode 1 - ATV 4K 60 YUV BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 926/127
    Mode 2 - ATV 4K 24 YUV BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 926/127
    Mode 3 - NVidia Shield 4K 60 YUV 10 bit BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 1078/96
    Mode 4 - NVidia Shield 4K 60 YUV 10 bit BT.2020 HDR10(ST.2084) 1078/96

This leads to some interesting conclusions:

    1) The Apple TV Plex app can play non HDR movies in HDR mode, while the Shield does not.

    2) The Shield does not change the FPS of Netflix content and will always play it in 60 FPS, while the Apple TV changes it to 24 FPS.

    3) The Apple TV, even if Match Content is on, plays a 1080p movie in 4K resolution, while the Shield correctly plays in 1080p.

    4) The Apple TV uses BT.2020 even for BT.709 movies.

    5) The CLL/FALL for transcoded movies via Plex on the Apple TV is wrongly measured. The Nvidia Shield plays the same without transcoding and measures it correctly.

    6) Their is a minor difference in CLL/FALL for the same 4K content between the Apple TV and Nvidia Shield.

What do you guys think? Am i reading the data correctly and/or missing something? Do let me know!

does apple tv 4k works on monitor?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 11:43 PM PST

i mean, can it send 4k hdr signal? i have tried chrome cast, roku and amazon stick, all of them doesnt work, so the difference between tv and monitor is that you can manually enable hdr mode in tv settings, so the hardware detect that your tv is capable with hdr and then it send hdr signal, however, you cant enable hdr in monitor settings, you have to enable it in os, sending hdr signal to monitor, then monitor turn on hdr mode whenever needed. due to the difference, i was unable to get hdr working with other streaming device, so does anyonw know how apple tv does the process, can i get 4k hdr with apple tv?

Connect new ATV4K to external speakers? (No toslink port on ATV)

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 05:50 PM PST

For some inane reason, Apple decided to get rid of the toslink audio out port which is making me pull my hair out trying to figure out how to connect it to my external speaker.

I have a Samsung TV that has a toslink out, which I have running to a toslink to 3.5mm DAC and I have a 3.5mm cable running from my speaker to the DAC. Playing from the Samsung TV itself works great! No dice with the ATV though. Whenever I try to change the audio options in the ATV settings, I see my TV as an option for airplay connectivity but when I hit connect, the passcode screen pops up on my Tv and tells me to enter the code, but it doesn't give me anywhere to enter it. It just sits at that screen for 30 secs then times out.

iTunes movies and shows start at beginning on Apple TV 4K?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 05:48 PM PST

    Hello everyone.

I was curious if there's anyway to have all your tv shows and movies on iTunes to start at the beginning each time? This feature used to be very accessible on older iOS but then it was removed (I think). Every time I start a movie, it picks up where I left off, which in some cases is nice but sometimes I just want to start at the beginning right from the get go

Volume control on ATV it self.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 12:06 PM PST

    Hi guys and gals,

I just got the Apple TV 4K and love it, there's just one thing that bugs me and I don't know if it can be changed.

You see I had the Mi Box (Android tv) and could control the volume with the remote that came with it, NOT the TV volume.

My TV has an annoyingly long volume bar 1-100 and it takes ages to lower and increase it. On the Mi Box I had the TV always at 100 but when changing the volume it changed on the Mi Box it self and the TV stays at 100.

Sorry if this is confusing, also it's very inconvenient that I need to point the Apple remote at my TV to change the loooong volume control.

Question about the free Apple TV+

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 06:17 AM PST

So my phones telling me that I get a 1-year free subscription to Apple TV+ but I want to know, if I get that free trial do I have to buy/rent the movies and tv shows still or are they free with the free trial?

Also once the year ends can I cancel the free trial so it doesn't charge me?
