Cracked Hinge (2015 MacBook Pro) Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:17 PM PST Going to be buying a 2015 15in MacBook Pro for $650 specs: - 2.5ghz i7 (4 cores) -16 gb 1600 ddr3 -512 g ssd -Radeon m370x 2gb graphics card -new battery (>100 cycles) -Very little cosmetic damage besides hinge Photos: https://imgur.com/gallery/JCkH4HK photos From what I know the black plastic piece is the hinge itself, but a cover. I'm not concerned about the crack as long as it is purely cosmetic. Although I would like to replace it eventually, so I'm wondering if that's even possible? Seems like a cheap part to replace but there isn't a lot of information regarding so on the internet. Thanks you guys [link] [comments]

Why can't I connect my macbook to an external monitor without having to charge it? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 07:20 PM PST I'm well aware of the impact that constantly charging a lithium-ion battery has on battery health. I have a nice 32-inch QHD monitor and my macbook pro's 13 inch screen can't really compare. I have a Dell laptop and I can still extend my laptop onto my external monitor when it's not plugged in charging but the moment I try to do that with the macbook, the screen goes black. Is it possible to use a macbook on an external monitor without always having the charging cable plugged in? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 06:29 PM PST So long story short, I have an 11 in iPad Pro listed for sale and somebody offered to trade me his 2017 15" MBP. I checked the serial number and it is out of warranty obviously. Has the 2.8 i7, 16 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. 144 battery cycles on the battery too. Think this is a good trade for me? Also what should I look for in terms of issues with it? Last MBP I bought was my 2011 so I could use an upgrade. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 05:55 PM PST Hello folks, i am a first time poster, long time lurker. Im technologically challenged so please bear with me. So i have a macbook air, im not sure about the model number but i know that i brought it new from an apple store in 2015. It has a 256 gb ssd and the bigger screen. I havent really updated the os in ages. The hard drive is usually almost full and barely has 9 or 10 gigs free on it. The charge cycle is at about 295. It was working perfectly fine as it always does and i decided to do a shutdown. Im not sure why i did that but i tried rebooting it again after a couple of hours and it doesnt work at all. When i press the power button i can hear the boot sound and it shows an apple logo right above a loading bar, the loading bar proceeds to well load. And as soon as it hits about 30-35% it shuts off. I tried that a few times and it did not work. I then tried to reboot it in recovery/repair mode and it says that the hdd might have a leaf error, it says something along the lines of number should be x and it is y, (if its worth anything the difference is 2. I then proceed to try to repair the drive which it tries to, i get a few green things and then a red thing after which it says that the drive cannot be repaired. Is there anyway at all i can fix this, the data on the laptop is extremely important. For the most part ive used this laptop with utmost care. Before someone suggests a restore with a back up I am too poor to afford a hard drive, too stupid to icloud and too dumb to have found an alternative way. I probably cannot afford to take it to an apple store, i dont mind if the laptop is fried as long as i can atleast backup the data and get a cheaper windows laptop. Thanks!! [link] [comments]
Adjusting MacBook screens brightness when connected to LG 5k Ultrafine Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:46 AM PST Just got the 5K UltraFine that apple sells. I have it plugged in via thunderbolt to my MacBook Pro. As I expected I can adjust the brightness from my KeyChron on the display. However I can not adjust the brightness on my actual MacBook. The only way I can is by going into system preferences or via Touch Bar. I was really hoping I could adjust both the LG or the MacBooks screens either at the same time or separately from my keyboard. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 01:12 PM PST Hi, up until yesterday I would use the c to c cable to connect my phone (s10+) and MacBook and the MacBook would charge it. But today, it doesn't do that anymore. Would anyone know why this may be? TIA [link] [comments]
Totally bizarre 2011 Macbook Pro & SSD problem. Posted: 03 Feb 2020 04:18 AM PST Hi guys, I am experiencing a totally bizarre issue with my (well, actually, my daughter's) 2011 Macbook Pro. Last week, she got tired of postponing an update, so just clicked on the notification to install updates. (I should note here before I go any further, that this Macbook has had a Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD (SH103S3/120G) installed for the past 18 months, with no issues.) It took all day to install (literally took, like, 8 hours or so) and then finally on reboot the screen just displayed a flashing No-entry sign. I didn't see what the update was, so I don't know if it was minor system updates, application updates, or the latest version of OSX that was installed. So I try both recovery modes (cmd-R and cmd-option-R) to check out the disk in Disk Utility. I don't see the disk in either the Lion recovery tools or the High Sierra recovery tools. I just see the "OSX Base System" disk, even when selecting "All devices." So I think the SSD has died, so I open the Macbook, take it out and put it in my external drive unit, and check it on my Windows machine. It shows up in Disk Manager. I reboot into Ubuntu and sure enough it shows up there, too. Just to be sure, I open my PC case and install it using a SATA cable. Same story, it appears in both Windows and Ubuntu. I try a different SSD: An old OCZ Vertex 3 120GB I had lying around. Same story... The Macbook won't detect it, but it shows up fine in Windows and Ubuntu, both as an external USB device, and internal SATA device. I try a third SSD that is in an old laptop where the display broke. This time it's a Samsung CM871 128GB SSD. This one shows up on the Mac, so I try to partition it and format it, but it just gets stuck on "Unmounting partition", like... I left it overnight and still the same thing after 8+ hours. So I put the Samsung SSD into the external drive holder, and attempt to partition it using GParted in Ubuntu, but the disk doesn't show up!? Try it on Windows, too, both internal SATA and external USB, and it won't show up. After literally days of trying different combinations, I get the HyperX partitioned in GParted as a GPT partition table, with a single volume formatted as HFS+, and put it in the Macbook. Progress! It is detected now, but when I try to install High Sierra, and it asks me which disk to use, there's no disks to select. So I go into disk utility (for, like, the 50th time) and everything looks like it should, but when I try to erase the disk, or partition it, it gets stuck on "Unmounting partition". So, I dig out an old 500GB 2.5" Seagate spinny-disk, and the whole detection and installation process of High Sierra goes without a hitch on it. When that's done, I open disk utility, connect my external USB disk drive holder, and try all 3 SSDs.... And all 3 work. I can partition them, format them, etc. I can even reboot into Recovery mode, and clone each of the SSDs (while they're connected externally) from the internal Seagate. But when I put them in the Macbook and try to boot, I either get a flashing No-entry sign, or a flashing folder-with-question-mark sign. I've tried every conceivable combination of partitioning/formatting these SSDs on Windows, Ubuntu, OSX (the target machine and also my Work Macbook Pro) and then getting them to work internally, but they just refuse to boot. The kicker is, if they're connected externally, they all 3 boot just fine. So, what's going on here?? I'm assuming there must be SOMETHING that was changed by the installed update, I'm thinking some kind of firmware, but I can't find anything like this situation on any support forums... Anyone have any ideas?? TLDR: Mac refusing to boot from 3 different SSDs internally. One of the SSDs shows up in Disk utility, but can't be manipulated, and the other two don't even show up. If I connect them externally, it boots off each of them fine. [link] [comments]
New MacBook Pro 16" -- CARRYING CASE? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 11:28 AM PST Has anyone found a good 3rd-party case for the new MacBook Pro 16"? Apple just started selling their slim leather ones -- which look great but steep price at $199 each. THX [link] [comments]

Is the MGXC2LL/A model basically the same as a late 2013 model? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 10:49 AM PST Just watched a Louis Rossmann video where he is recommending the best models to buy. I have one lined up but I want to confirm it's the same as his recommendation. Video here: https://youtu.be/xFIVZYevfGU?t=40 Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 06:04 AM PST Goes to sleep when I play a 4k video through Chrome and the fans start spinning. The battery is still there but it goes the sleep as if it died. Doesn't wake unless I plug it to power. Why? Never occurred on bootcamp but only macOS. [link] [comments]

Looking to buy first MacBook Pro in over 10 years. Posted: 03 Feb 2020 04:41 AM PST Like the title says my significant other and I are looking into buying a MacBook Pro. It'll be my first MacBook on 10 years. I last bought a 2010 model in 2010, it has finally been retired. We went looking at Best Buy last night and was pricing them. It's been awhile since I've owned an Apple product (three years since I last owned an iPhone) I haven't followed the keynotes since. Should we wait to buy a new MacBook Pro when the new 2020 models come out? Or will it be ok to get the 2019 model? I've heard about the butterfly keyboard issues. Should we wait for the WWDC in mid 2020 to see what Apple comes out with? I'm also not sure what size is right for us, my SO thinks the 13" will be sufficient and that the 16" would be to much. Not to mention there's a $1,000 price difference between the two. Should we wait for Best Buy to offer a student discount that we can take advantage of? [link] [comments] |
