Posted: 15 Jan 2020 02:18 AM PST Hi, We are experiencing an issue with websites and services like the iCloud Calendar and our office365 E-mail services on MacOS. We get a warning from iCal when we start it up saying it can't identifiy the identity of the server p54-caldav.icloud.com and outlook.office365.com. So far in our enviroment we've encountered this on 3 MacBook's (all different models, all of them running MacOS Catalina 10.15.2 We also get an error where we get redirected to localhost everytime we browse to a website in Safari and on Chrome we get ERROR CERT_INVALID What we've done so far: - Rebooted the Mac's (it works for a while then the issue comes back). - Set a different DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) - Wiped the KeyChain of all manually installed certificates. - Replace the Mac with a new one, the same issue started appearing on that Mac as well. - made sure no proxy servers we're enabled. - Searched through the mac with MalwareBytes, this solves the issue for the Office365 connected services but not the iCloud calendar. We've also checked the certificates we get when we browse to portal.office.com and a couple of other websites and all through chrome, those certificates show up as expired (2016) and issued by Default Company Ltd. To me and my colleagues it sounds like an error with the root certificate? anybody who has encountered this and solved it? [link] [comments]

How to enter "choose boot drive" startup screen without alt key Posted: 15 Jan 2020 02:30 AM PST Hey, my MBP's keyboard is physically messed up (water damage or whatever) and for a long time I haven't been able to get into the "choose boot device" startup screen. Normally you'd hold down the option key but it seems that that key is not recognized at startup for me, nor can I get into recovery mode by holding down the keys for that. I solved recovery mode by passing variables to nvram from terminal, that worked. I can't find anything on how to boot into the choose boot device startup screen with nvram variables tho. And yes, I've tried everything smc&pram reset before...it is a physical keyboard problem. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jan 2020 08:26 PM PST In the media browser of the File/Open dialog (let's as you're browsing for a photo to upload), photos and movies that haven't completely downloaded aren't available. But that's a lot of my most recent several day's videos. If I force them to download, they're available, but that's a pain. This seems like a bug, but is there a workaround? I want my Mac to proactively download all photos and videos. I do NOT have "Optimize storage" on or anything and it looks like it's supposed to keep the originals on the local disk? Mail missing some Gmail labels - Catalina Posted: 14 Jan 2020 04:01 PM PST I've noticed that after updating to Catalina, some Gmail labels are missing in Mail. I have an iMac running High Sierra and the labels show up just fine there so I assume something specific to Catalina. Anyone else having this issue? [link] [comments]
Two Factor Authentication (TFA) query Posted: 14 Jan 2020 02:40 PM PST Hi, We own a 2014 MacBook Air, 2x iPhone XR, and an old 2005 Mac Mini - the latter of which I use exclusively as a media centre for my films/TV Shows. When setting it up it almost became a pointless doorstop as, whilst trying to setup homesharing on it using my Apple ID, I discovered my Apple ID input prompted me to enter a TFA passcode at the end of my Apple ID password but I couldn't as the OS was so old on it it didn't recognise TFA! Fortunately I discovered my wife had never activated TFA on her Apple ID so I was able to set up the Mac Mini homesharing using her ID. All good. Trouble is that now my wife has a new iPhone we want to use the Home app and a couple of other iCloud based apps but, in order to do that she is prompted to turn on TFA on her account. My question is this: If she enables TFA on her Apple ID will it cause issues for the already logged in Mac Mini? It won't automatically log out and render the Mac Mini useless, will it? My gut feeling is that because we're already signed in on it for homesharing it won't affect it (unless we ever have cause to log out of homesharing and then try to log back in. Am I right? We rely on the Mac Mini heavily for our evening entertainment so definitive answers would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Can I make input switching like in Windows Posted: 14 Jan 2020 02:19 PM PST Hello, I'm using Mojave at home and Windows at work, I've noticed that Windows keyboard input switching is very smart compared to Macos where I always find myself with "the wrong keyboard layout" (I'm using 3 of them btw). I've tried Kyboard pilot but it doesn't do all the things right, so I'd like to ask you is there a way to make the input switching like in Windows i.e. have a default language with which all the apps open with when you start them but then if I'm to change the input in 1 app and open another with the default keyboard, I want to be switched back. I'm well aware of the "Automatically switch to a document's input" option in the Sys Prefs but it doesn't work with all the apps. For example if I open contacts switch the language and them I open calendar and switch again to the 1st language when I go back to contacts I'm left with the last input method I used in Calendar [link] [comments]

Make a bootable Windows external SSD? Posted: 14 Jan 2020 12:35 PM PST I have a 500GB SSD external drive that I want to make into a bootable Windows 10 drive for my Macbook Pro. Is there a way to do this? I cant seem to use Boot Camp to make this anymore. I cant seem to find an answer and I can only find ways to make a bootable windows ISO installer. I want a literal Windows boot on a USB, not an installer. [link] [comments]
Broken MBP late 2011 w dead graphics and no OS Posted: 14 Jan 2020 04:51 AM PST Hey there, i found an old MBP late 2011 on my dads basement.First of all it looks fine, had some cracks here and there but overall its fine. After i boot it i saw that there was no hard drive in it.Tried to install CMD + R on an SSD and run the internet recovery program -> Nothing worked hereAnd other recovery shortcut combos doesnt worked ... The mac book pro boots up and has some serious issues with the graphics, i have blue screen with stripes after apple logo, and green stripes during booting. What is the solution to first get MAC OS on the SSD and then disable the external graphics and switch to the internal ones.I can boot in Single User Mode to enter some stuff, i can install the OS over the MBP because the disk utility doesnt start. I would love to see this working =)Thanks for the help. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Status Update 15.01.2020

Posted: 14 Jan 2020 11:58 AM PST Having a hell of a time doing what used to be a very simple process: The situation is a family member's iPhone is nearly out of physical storage, AND is also using a sizeable portion of the 200 GB iCloud Family plan. All I want to do for them is: 1.) Export all original photos/videos from iPhone to a local folder on their Mac. 2.) Delete all photos from their phone/iCloud so both the local phone storage and iCloud storage is reclaimed. The issue: With iCloud Photo Library enabled, it appears any options to view/export the local Camera Roll on iPhone when the phone is physically connected to the Mac are not available. ("Download Originals" is toggled ON on the iPhone and all photos have been synced according to Camera Roll.) Ironically, on a PC this is a trivial procedure, because the iCloud for Windows app allows you to simply force a manual download of all photos from the source (iCloud) to the local Pictures folder on your hard drive. Easy. However, I don't see a similar option on Catalina - except for attempting to rely on Photos.app to sync everything from iCloud (it never seems to finish downloading all originals) and then use the "Export All Photos" option, which just seems to hang and do absolutely nothing indefinitely. Each device has all software updates. Image Capture import doesn't work either (doesn't show any photos from the Camera Roll). Am I missing a step here or is the process really this opaque at the moment? [link] [comments]

Headphone jack question. Thunderbolt 3 dock or Logitech speakers? Posted: 14 Jan 2020 06:36 AM PST Hi everyone. So I have a CalDigit thunderbolt 3 dock connected to my iMac. It has a headphone jack. I am wondering where I will get the better signal for the audio. Through the dock or through the Logitech speakers that are connected to my iMac via headphone jack. Thanks! TLDR: Thunderbolt 3 or headphone jack for headphones? [link] [comments]

What would it take to make you switch to another OS? Posted: 14 Jan 2020 03:07 AM PST I've been using macOS for a few years now and was absolutely sure, that I would never go back to a Windows machine (and hadn't ever used Linux). Recently though I've been annoyed by the small range of available devices and was/am not sure whether the switch to a Hackintosh is actually feasible and would work well. I am mostly doing work in Photoshop and Premiere Pro at the moment, but I am going to expand to Illustrator and a few other applications in the future. Except for a light Premiere Pro usage, none of those actually earn me any money since I am still a student at the time - all I have is a mini job and a hobby. The main two issues that I have with current macOS devices are
The second reason is why I just bought the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo to compare working on it in contrast to working on a Macbook Pro 15" (2016) and an iMac 27" (2019). It's only meant for the mentioned applications, university stuff such as coding, writing, and organizing files will all be done on my Macbook. After struggling with creating my ideal personal setup, I was thinking about which parts of the Apple ecosystem and MacOS specifically are actually important to me. That got me wondering, why do so many others rely on their MacOS based machine? What would it take to make you switch or at least try to switch? And which features would you never want to give up on? What exactly does the process "touchbarserver" do on an iMac? Posted: 14 Jan 2020 04:48 AM PST Hi, I recently bought a new iMac which sometimes seems to slow down. I noticed that at those times, there is a process called "touchbarserver" which takes up around 1Gb of RAM and I suspect that it has something to do with it. As an iMac does not have a Touchbar, I am quite confused what exactly the process even does in the first place, let alone eating up 1gb of RAM. Googling only showed me discussion threads of users having problems with their Macbook Touchbars... Anyone can help me out here? ------ Here are two screenshots from the Activity Monitor concenring the process: https://imgur.com/a/g6wX3Qo I have an 2019 iMac with Mac OS 10.15.2. [link] [comments] |
