2012 Macbook Pro: Drive won't boot internally, only via USB dock Posted: 10 Jan 2020 02:57 PM PST Hey all. I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro that refused to boot up last night. Upon booting in recovery mode, I discovered that the hard drive would not mount. For context, I replaced the HDD with a Samsung Evo 860 SSD a little over a year ago, which has displayed no issues up until yesterday. I also upgraded the SATA cable at the time, and this doesn't seem to be the issue. I brought it to a local shop this morning, and we ran some tests on the hard drive and the computer itself. The drive passed all of the tests, but still won't boot internally. The tech threw a random SSD into the internal dock to see if it would boot and it did 2 out of 3 times. However, my own SSD will not do so. We also tried another SATA cable to confirm, and that wasn't the problem. The tech determined that the problem is either the drive itself or the logic board. In looking at the board, he noticed a good deal of corrosion that was likely caused by overheating (yellowish tint to some of the metal parts. The drive is under warranty, though I'd rather not have to send it out to Samsung and wait an eternity for them to either fix or replace it (if that's even the problem). My gut says it's the board, but I am no expert by any means. I am a full-time PhD student, so my computer is a pretty necessary item (my stuff is backed up, thankfully). My question: does this sound like a logic board issue, and is it even worth pursuing or should I start looking at a new or refurbished Macbook? [link] [comments]

How worried should I be about burning out my graphics card? Posted: 10 Jan 2020 05:56 PM PST I run a 2017 13' Intel i5 with 8GB and an Intel Iris 640 1536 MB graphics card on last Mojave update. I do some pretty regular intensive gaming that has the fans running full blast most of the time, with the frame feeling very hot to the touch for most of the time. I have been using it like this for about a year now, and have started to notice several brief graphical glitches, like a few pixels being the wrong color temporarily. I've heard before that macbooks have an overheating problem, and I'm wondering how worried should I be about this. [link] [comments]
Is a 2015 Macbook Pro still good? Posted: 10 Jan 2020 05:48 PM PST Hello I'm looking at purchasing a 2015 Macbook Pro 2.2 ghz, 16gb ram, and 256 SSD. The seller is selling it for $700. Just wanted to get peoples opinion who own a Mac if this is a good buy or is it too much for this year. Also it has 300 cycle count and its in perfect! cosmetic condition. [link] [comments]
Macbook plugged in all of the time Posted: 10 Jan 2020 12:13 PM PST Hello, I am using my 2015 MacBook Pro as a desktop computer basically, which means that it is basically plugged in with the charger all of the time... Is this bad for the computer, should I occasionally unplug it and let the battery run, or is it okay? I've been looking for answers online, and I have found mixed opinions. Please put your input on this, please. Thank you in advanced, have a great day! [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Jan 2020 04:25 AM PST Hi everyone, I've had my 2019 Macbook Pro 13 for a few months now and am looking for a docking station that I can use to connect to my monitors (I have three but would be happy with one that only supports two monitors). Does anyone have any recommendations (ideally it would just require a usb-c cable to connect them both and keyboard/mouse)? [link] [comments]

Should I trade my 2015 15” Macbook Pro 16gb/500ssd for a 2018 13” Macbook Air 8gb/128ssd? Posted: 10 Jan 2020 10:47 AM PST My Pro is awesome but it's really big and hard for me to lug around campus every day. I'm trying to find a 13" Pro but haven't had any luck yet. I got an offer to trade for the 2018 Air. I'm a college student who doesn't use laptops for a whole lot yet (not in music or business or engineering or anything), but i still use my laptop every day. would this be a worthwhile trade? Posted: 10 Jan 2020 10:31 AM PST College student and looking to purchase a new laptop. Leaning towards going for an apple product but I don't know anything about the MacBooks. Do they last long, if so should I invest in a more expensive one to last me longer. What would be the best fit. I would use it for schooling and some movie streaming and that's about it. What are the best current deals out there right now too. Thanks in advance 🙏 [link] [comments]
Need Help with bootloop after installing SDD Posted: 10 Jan 2020 06:06 AM PST Hey there! I'm looking for some help with my macbook pro mid 2012, any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also I should say that I don't know much about computers and english is not my first language, so sorry for any mistake I will probably do. (also kinda new in reddit) Recently I upgraded from a hdd to a sdd. With the help of some videos I changed the hardrive and then installed High Sierra from a USB. Used the laptop for couple of hours and everything was running fine until it turned off suddenly. It restarted by itself and went into a bootloop. (not sure if it's called like that) I put back the hdd to see if I damaged the SATA cable, but had 0 problems. I red that I might have to reset something in order to make work the SDD properly. Any ideas of what I could do or what might be the problem? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
