Amazing long term iPhone 3G support

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 12:46 AM PST

I must say, I was amazed by long term support Apple has for their products. My mother still has iPhone 3G (I have nfi why the battery still lives in that thing) , and she recently changed her operator. It turns out, the iPhone was actually operator locked, so I asked the old operator to unlock it - they could not because it is no longer in their system. So I prepared to just back the stuff and maybe find her a good condition SE, and to my amazement - once you plug an operator locked iPhone (with the new sim in) into iTunes, not only it recognizes the 11 years old device, but it automatically proposes you to remove the operator lock.

Honestly, I think it is quite amazing that they did this for an "unsupported" device - it enables you to use it for much longer than you would expect (I suppose other unsupported phones will behave in the same way, although I have no way to test this).

AirPods Pro work on iPhone 3GS. I always knew they’d work just like Bluetooth headphones for music, but surprised that everything else (other than Hey Siri) works; active noise cancelling, transparency mode, play/pause, skip, and rewind from the stem.

Anyone else wish dark mode applied to white news articles?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 03:16 AM PST

I love dark mode on iOS 13 but the biggest thing that still kills my eyes is Apple news articles with a white background. I hope Apple can do something to invert these in dark mode or something. Anyone else find this to be an issue?

Macbook 16 processor speed influenced by Power Supply (87W vs 96W)

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:31 AM PST

I played around a bit with Cinebench 20 on my Macbook (i9-9880H) after yesterday's Update of the TS3 Plus to 87W.

And it seems that after intitial boost the macbook settles for a 85-90W power draw in System Power (via iStat menu). I found this interesting since it matched the power supply rating. Cinebench is around 3250.

Since you can cannot another power supply just fine, I plugged in the 96W power supply (94 according to system profiler) in addition and my Macbook system power hovered at 93-99W instead. Also the Cinbench improved to 3411.

The behaviour is reproducible. At least with unplug => 3250ish again, plug 96W again => 3415. While this propably does not matter much in normal usage, it feels interesting nevertheless.

Can anyone else reproduce this behaviour?
