    How to delete file permanently (in Finder) without using a mouse

    So to delete a file permanently in Finder, I hit option+command+backspace. Then a dialog appears which asks me if I am sure.

    Is there any method to confirm the action without grabbing the god damn mouse? Pressing Tab or Arrow-keys doesn't work.

    As u/combiningvariousitem suggests, I changed the setting:

    Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Use Keyboard Navigation

    Now I am able to move the cursor.. but if I hit enter to confirm, Finder doesn't delete the file.. nothing happens.. If I confirm the dialog via mouse or touchbar it works..

    Light weight games that run well on MacOs

    Hi all. I recently upgraded to last years 13" Macbook Pro. I went with the 128GB drive to save some money. Most of my files are stored to external drives or iCloud so I still have some space on the machine, but very limited. I've been working full time night shifts and I need a game or two to keep me occupied and awake when things are slow. Any recommendations on games that are relatively smaller in size (max 10GB) that run decently in MacOs?

    Recently started tinkering on one and I'd like to get it running well by today's standards. It's plug and play nature gives me the feeling it's possible, but I'm already aware I can't simply install Catalina through the App Store.

    Best way for PC-style home / end key behavior in Catalina?

    I've become so accustomed to Windows' way of handling Home / End key behavior, taking the cursor to the start or end of the LINE... why does Apple insist on having these two keys take one to the start / end of the DOCUMENT instead?

    Before Catalina, I had a small custom .dict file that defined this behavior perfectly, and which carried over cleanly through several OS upgrades.

    However, after recently deciding to commit to a full nuke and reload of the OS and apps (trying to put an end to the machine having started randomly doing a kernel panic while asleep - which is what prompted my decision to do said nuke / reload in the first place; literally only the second time I've done so since going Mac 10+ years ago), I have not been able to get this keyboard definition back in place, nor have I been able to find an easy solution (closest has been Karabiner-Elements, but that goes to start / end of PARAGRAPH, and is one of three apps named in recent KP reports, so that app is currently offline).

    Thoughts?

    I have an early 2013 MacBook Pro that is using OS X El Capitan. I haven't updated it in years, and now want to do so. But I am concerned about making such a huge jump to the current operating system. Should I be safe upgrading to MacOS Catalina? Or should I try an earlier OS first?

    3rd Party Social Media Share Sheet Extensions?

    I get that Apple deliberately removed the share sheet extensions for social media like facebook and twitter.

    But I expected that 3rd parties would add them back. Are there any now?

    This article suggests that even 3rd parties are blocked from adding them. Is that true?

    Load windows on a external thumb drive

    I have a 2019 MacBook Pro with only 128gb drive I would like to boot windows using a external type c drive I was wondering if this was possible, also any recommendation on drive that I can do this with. I want something small that I can put on a keychain.

    Trying to downgrade from Yosemite to Snow Leppard, Mac Pro mid 2012 ish. Have the disk that came with my system. Did a time machine backup of Yosemite, snow leopard install disk (and USB both) stuck at Apple logo.

    I created a bootable USB to try as well. Both are stuck at the apple logo after a wipe. Want to go back to Snow leopard because it's supposed to fix an issue with logic pro 9 becoming sluggish after 20min or so (common ish issue).

    5120 x 1440 in macOS, possible? How?

    I've posted in Apple Forums and other parts of Reddit and can't seem to get an answer....

    For all the Apple products (I have a 2019 Macbook Pro 13'') that state in the specs that they are capable of up to 5120‑by‑2880 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors via Thunder Bolt 3 to DP -- how in the actual heck is this achievable? Specifically, I am trying to get a 5120 x 1440 resolution for my ultrawide.

    I've tried different cables, adapters, etc. I even bought the Moshi cable from Apple.com that specifically states its able to supply up to 5K res, and I still cannot get 5120 x 1440. My monitor is capable of it, and it can do it no problem in Windows (on another machine and my mac in bootcamp).

    Does anyone know, anyone..... how 5120 x 1440 is achievable for us ultrawide folks? Yes I've tried those display override apps and all they do is scale the display terribly to the point where it looks like my monitor is on the verge of dying.

    Hope someone can help because all my calls to Apple Support are just generic responses and no one has really offered to research or figure out what's going on.

    Using Time Machine To Backup From External Boot Drive (Startup Disk)

    I recently assisted my dad in setting up an external SSD drive as his startup disk on his 2015 21.5 iMac. All went smoothly, but now he is unable to select his new SSD startup disk as the source for backups using the Time Machine GUI (the destination disk is an external spinning disk). The SSD is not presented as an option in the Time Machine GUI. Is there any way to get around this, or do we have to resort to a third-party backup program? I have searched all over for the answer, but perhaps I am not asking the right question. Thank you so much for your help!

    As I asked in the headline, I want to compare my old MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2012 (2,6 GHz Quad-Core i7, 8GB RAM) with the 2019 MacBook Pro 13" (2,4 GHz Quad i5, 8GB RAM). Is there any website to compare older MacBooks with newer ones?

    I am a student and work with big RAW-Files in Photoshop/Lightroom CC.

    HELP - can't delete "com.apple.SafariTechnologyPreview" from trash

    As the title say, I have been trying to get rid of com.apple.SafariTechnologyPreview 20-49-03-080.SafariTechnologyPreview because it is in use. Obviously I had it installed and just tried to remove it by dragging it to the trash.

    Increasing RAM

    Hi all,

    I have a late 2014 Mac Mini with 8GB built in RAM that is not upgradeable.

    I find that based on my usage I usually max out my RAM and that slows down my system. Sometimes freezes.

    Is there any way to increase the RAM virtually sort of how there is PageFile for Windows?

    Peripherals not recognized when docking MacBook

    I have a wired keyboard and a mouse that I connect to my MacBook Pro via my monitor which acts as a hub. If I plug in the Mac while it is sleeping or powered down everything works fine. But if I dock the Mac while it is awake it doesn't recognize the keyboard or mouse.

    Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Is there anything I can do to get the computer to recognize these peripherals besides putting it to sleep and waking it back up?

    Maybe suspended from university because of the email app

    Today I was doing a pretty important exam, and we had to record our screen to prove that only we were using one tab. Everything fine until the email app opened itself 5 TIMES in 2 HOURS.

    That would be already bad to explain, but the worst thing is that the email that was opened were class notes from the day before.

    I have to go to the Commission Committee of the university and try to explain how tf that happened because rules are very strict with cheating, you can get very easily suspended.

    SO PLEASE APPLE FIX YOUR OPERATING SYTEM!
