HDR vs SDR - contradictory info found

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 07:17 PM PST

I have a atv 4K and a Samsung 4K tv that supports hdr.

We watch a lot of Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and just signed up for YouTube tv.

I have been reading about the sdr vs hdr setting and am reading conflicting info.

Many recommend using sdr with range matching and frame rate matching on... saying it allows lower quality shows to appear less bright and blown out by not forcing that content up to hdr... but it could slightly degrade true hdr stuff.

I Have also read that it should be hdr if your tv supports it, it also with dynamic range matching and frame rate matching on..... saying that will display great hdr content and will not force sdr or lesser content into hdr bc range matching causing the atv to switch over to sdr.

    So which is correct?

Frame rate issue fixed on AT&T TV Now

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:03 PM PST

tvOS 13.3 Beta 4 (17K5449A) appears to fix the dreaded frame rate issue on AT&T TV Now. Playback on NBA TV has appeared smooth for 30 minutes after brief testing.

4:4:4 Chroma seems to still have the issue but 4:2:0 seems to be working well so far.

    Help with the TV app

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:47 PM PST

I'm giving this app a try but having some issues. Most of my shows watched were automatically added as they should, however the episodes watched are completely wrong.

Is there a way to "unwatch" a show?

For instance, we have not watched the new season of shameless, but in the TV app it shows I've watched episode 1 of the new season. So can I mark that episode as unwatched? To get the correct episode to pop-up?

How do I search my movies or home video libraries?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 09:11 PM PST

On the new TV app on Catalina. How do I search? On the library page when I click in the search bar, it goes right to the movies or tv pages (movies or tv shows for sale). There doesn't seem to be any way to search in my own extensive library of movies and home videos. This includes DVDs I own that I ripped myself and a couple thousand YouTube videos.

HBO through Amazon Prime on Apple TV

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 05:21 PM PST

Hey all, I am thinking about making the switch over to an Apple TV and I am wondering if someone has an answer to my question. I have an HBO Go subscription, and as you may or may not know, the HBO Go App is terrible; however, you can watch HBO shows through Amazon Prime on your fire stick. I read that Amazon Prime was taken off of the Apple Store in October, but then I read an article saying it was back on the store in November.

Has anyone been able to watch their HBO shows through their Amazon Prime app on their Apple TV?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered—I searched here and couldn't find an answer for it—but how does one go about adding Apple TV+ to the home screen on a Samsung tv?

    Up Next/Streaming purchased version

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:32 PM PST

Sorry if this has been asked. I purchased The X-Files recently and I noticed that in the Up Next section, it seems to stream it from the Hulu app rather than from my library. Is there a way for me to stop defaulting to Hulu?

YouTube app no longer has trending

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 07:46 PM PST

I use the app to kill time while I get work done at home. Watch the channels I'm subscribed to and then when I'm caught up I like going through the trending to see what's new. Well not anymore, I have the choice between music, movies and news. The "home" screen is all based around recommendations.

Sound Cutting Out Every 30ish Seconds

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:03 PM PST

Hi! I've googled and looked on this sub and tried every suggestion I can find. But alas, my issue remains. Every time I use any app on my Apple TV that was purchased new less than 2 weeks ago, the sound cuts out every 30 seconds or so for 1 to 2 seconds. Please someone know how to fix this! Thanks in advance!

The next Apple TV box should include a camera for your tv like Portal from FB

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 06:42 PM PST

You see all these commercials of people talking to others on their TV and while it's possible with Portal from FB or possibly even from XBOX and PS4, I don't see it being difficult for Apple to make one for Apple TV.

It would be cool to facetime using your TV and Siri or with apps like Skype for people that often video call. Sure, it's possible with airplay mirroring but that isn't exactly user-friendly for many people. Maybe it's already possible using your iPhone as a video camera with your Apple TV but never really looked into it.
