Thoughts on a lower-cost Apple TV “stick”?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 08:55 PM PST

It'd be more affordable than an Apple TV (not sure how Apple would feel about cannibalizing $149 hardware, though).

I think a lot of people would purchase a ton of them and plug them I'm around their homes. I definitely would.

Great stocking stuffer and free advertisement for TV+. "Hey, you can watch The Morning Show with this! Have you seen it?!"

I think it'd be a smart move by Apple. Thoughts?

Hey /r/apple ! We are a two-man developer team and over the past 7 months we’ve been working on our first game. Here’s our cube-like twisty puzzle - Eclidus.

I have been working on improving my indie app Liftin’ Workout Tracker based on your feedback. Here’s what’s new and what’s coming! + 50 promo codes giveaway!

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 01:07 AM PST

UPDATE Please message me for promo codes, let's leave the comments for discussion/feedback. 🙂

UPDATE 2: All promo codes gone, I hope you will enjoy using the app!

    Hello r/Apple! 👋

I'm the developer of Liftin' Workout Tracker and I'm back with an update on the development of the app!

First of all I want to thank everyone who are using Liftin' and and sending me feedback! You are the best! 🙏

Also, I will give out 49 promo codes for one year of Liftin' Unlimited and one code for the lifetime unlock given randomly to one of the first 50 people.

If you want one send me a message and I will hook you up! Please don't fill up the comments asking for one. 🙂

    What's new

    Supersets

This has been highly requested since the release of the app, and it finally made it to the top of my backlog. Now you can combine any two exercises to a superset and track them with alternating sets!

    Sharing workout plans

Another highly requested feature, you can now easily share workout plans with your friends by just sending them a link.

    ..and some minor features

    • Calendar view for workout history

    • Option to copy workout plans

    • Unique notification sounds for timers

    • Alternative app icon + some design updates

    What's next

As I have said before, one thing I really want to work on is improving is the automatic progression system to enable support for more advanced programs like nSuns and 5/3/1. I think the best way to get there is to introduce the required new concepts for the app one at a time, and slowly but surely make these kinds of programs possible. My top list of features include some of these new concepts mixed with some other highly requested features:

    • 1RM relative weights
    • Customise warmup calculator
    • Support for notes
    • Cloud backup
    • More metrics in progress
    • Progress photos

I'm really excited to start working on these features, and I think the improvements will be great! My top priority is that Liftin' remains easy to use so I will be careful not to screw up the simplicity.

You can follow me on Twitter @liftinApp if you want all the latest updates.

Please let me know what you think, and if you have other features you would like to see! Im looking forward hearing your feedback! 🙂

PS. If you want to join the beta program (which is free) I'm opening up some spots there as well, you can sign up here.

    Interesting MBP Situation(s)

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 11:23 PM PST

    Hello r/apple

This is gonna be a long one so there will be a tl;dr at the bottom.

So about 4 weeks ago I finally decided that I had enough with the random character input that I was having with my 2018 MBP. I knew that there was a recall put in place for the butterfly key-switches and took advantage while I could and chatted with apple to get an appointment set up at my closest Apple certified repair shop. Took it in and told me that it was a usual top case replacement and that I'd have it back in no less than a couple of days, I was happy about that and waited. Finally, after about 2 days, I received a call from the shop telling me that my Mac was finished but there was something bad on it that need to be replaced. They told me my back left type-c port had gone bad and that it was a $20 replacement and asked if I wanted it, of course, I told them I did and was told it should be done the next day.

This is where it gets interesting.

They had called me the next afternoon and the first words to come out of their mouth was "Soooo we have an interesting situation. Do you want the good news or bad news?". I was told that my MacBook USB problem was much deeper than they thought and it turned out that it was something defective in the motherboard itself. I was told that apple engineering wanted the computer to take an image of it and that I would be given a replacement.

Fast-forward a week from then and I had received a call that they got my new replacement in and that I could come and get it. Turns out it was a year newer than the one I had and got a free upgrade, so I was pretty excited that I had got a free upgrade at no cost. MacBook was certainly brand new still in its shrink wrap and everything.

About 3 days ago I started to have trackpad problems on my WEEK OLD computer. When I open the laptop the mouse will move but will not click. I know the trackpad is not physical but no feedback, no clicking on anything, only being able to move the cursor. In order for me to actually get it working, I have to restart the computer 2 times at least before it will start clicking again. I contact apple once again and was told that It sounded like I needed to reset my SMC, and to contact again if that does not work. Well, of course, you can guess it certainly did not work and has now progressed into it not working at all regardless if I restart or reset SMC.

So today I contacted them and was told I need to speak to a senior advisor tomorrow and talk to them over the phone since the computer I have now is already a replacement. I will make updates, but this situation has been very annoying since I really haven't had a useable MacBook in over a month now. UGHHH.

    Thanks for the read.

TL;DR: Had 2018 MBP taken by apple engineering, given new MBP 2019 that is a week old and already has hardware problems.

[iOS app] Apollo: Immersive illumination - *66% off its regular price until 12/01* - Professional portrait mode photo relighting tool. (Dual /Triple + FaceID camera iPhones ONLY)

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 01:22 PM PST

Just wanted to share that Apollo: Immersive illumination is on sale (66% off, $0.99 instead of $2.99) until tomorrow EOD.

The app is about editing the lighting of Portrait mode photos after the fact by adding and customising point lights over the photo. Here are some edits to get a better idea of what the app does: https://imgur.com/a/BqmKEFX

For best results, keep in mind the following: 1. The photo should have uniform lighting. 2. Low lighting photos, photos taken under an overcast sky or selfies and close ups are perfect candidates.

The app has been featured as the App of The Day on many App Stores around the world but not yet in the US.

If you have any question about the app I will be more than happy to answer it.

    Thanks!
