fun fact: your iPhone 11 runs at 69% of its normal speed when low power mode is on

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 10:57 PM PST

My 11 Pro's wi-fi is slower than my XS in almost every case (data inside). How is yours doing?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 04:05 PM PST

~~For the first four tests, I tested each phone simultaneously. For the rest of the tests, I tested each phone individually (completing one test before moving on to the other).

Speedof.me All 3 phones tested at the same time
    SE 97
    XS 82
    11 Pro 73
Testmy.net All 3 phones tested at the same time
    SE 86
    XS 70
    11 Pro 51
Fast.com All 3 phones tested at the same time
    SE 110
    XS 260
    11 Pro 420
DSLReports All 3 phones tested at the same time
    SE 67
    XS 192
    11 Pro 148

I wondered if changing my testing method would make a difference. I did a second run on each website. But this time, I tested each phone individually, instead of simultaneously, before moving on to the other. Testing the phones out one by one yielded better results in every case, though the XS still beat the 11 Pro in all but one case.~~

Speedof.me Testing one phone at a time
    SE 117
    XS 161
    11 Pro 143
Testmy.net Testing one phone at a time
    SE 131
    XS 175
    11 Pro 169
Fast.com Testing one phone at a time
    SE 140
    XS 310
    11 Pro 480
DSLReports Testing one phone at a time
    SE 163
    XS 481
    11 Pro 435

Overall, my 11 Pro won 2/8 times. My XS won 4/8 times, and the SE won 2/8.

I'm cool with these results, as long as it's normal. Is it?

EDIT: I wanted to mention this is my second 11 Pro. I had to swap out my old 11 Pro for an unrelated issue. Anyways, when I did these tests with my first 11 Pro, it handily beat my XS in every case, but I didn't write anything down because I didn't think anything of it.

Results on 5GHz (2.4GHz disabled). Leaving out the SE to save time.

Speedof.me 5GHz band, one phone at a time
    XS 95
    11 Pro 145
Testmy.net 5GHz band, one phone at a time
    XS 212
    11 Pro 119
Fast.com 5GHz band, one phone at a time
    XS 420
    11 Pro 320
DSLReports 5GHz band, one phone at a time
    XS 448
    11 Pro 268

    More edits:

    • To reiterate, the first four runs were done at the same time, and all other tests were done individually.
    • I understand that there are other factors that can affect wifi speeds. But what I don't understand is how my first iPhone 11 Pro consistently beat my XS, while my second 11 Pro is consistently losing, sometimes by significant margins, against the same device. I used the same four websites last time.
    • So far, I've reset my router and also reset the network settings on my iPhone 11 Pro. In a few hours, I'll run these tests again and provide an update.

Update: Results after resetting network settings on 11 Pro and resetting router. XS still comes out ahead:

Speedof.me After network and router reset, one phone at a time
    XS 158
    11 Pro 95
Testmy.net After network and router reset, one phone at a time
    XS 177
    11 Pro 172
Fast.com After network and router reset, one phone at a time
    XS 320
    11 Pro 520
DSLReports After network and router reset, one phone at a time
    XS 423
    11 Pro 371

What are your hopes for the iPhone SE 2/2020 iPhone SE?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 03:38 PM PST

Here's what the rumors indicate so far:

    • Priced at $399
    • Launching Q1 2020
    • Same/similar design as iPhone 8
    • 4.7-inch screen
    • A13 chip
    • 3GB RAM

    Here's what I'm hoping for:

    • At least one "fun" color option
    • Same main camera as iPhone 11, with Night Mode support
    • IP68 water resistance
    • All-day battery life

What are your expectations? What would you like to see?

Android / Samsung Fanboy thinking about getting an iPhone

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:19 PM PST

Ever since the IPhone 11 came out I've been thinking what it'd be like getting an iPhone for the first time would be like. Something about apples design and look feel all that stuff has seemed to get to me.

A couple years ago I would flame you for holding an iPhone but now I am thinking about getting one. What's it like switching from android to ios, what are the biggest differences, cons and pros. What's better about ios that android lacks and vise versa.

    Strongest XR case?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:47 PM PST

Just got the XR through a t mobile deal, biggest worry is dropping it and causing a crack. Any recommendations on shockproof durable cases? Preferring something healthier for my budget.

Question for you people who go to the Apple store for repairs. On an iPhone X with a cracked screen (and partially bad LCD) and has a Face ID that no longer functions right but the front facing camera still works, if I took it in for a screen repair is the Face ID fixed with that or is it extra?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 06:48 PM PST

Just trying to find out if the repair is going to cost more than $279 for the out of warranty screen repair. Besides the screen and the face ID there is no any other issues or physical damage with the phone.

    Help with food photography?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:00 AM PST

What is this (feature?) called? It’s been bugging me for so long and I don’t even know how to describe it to look it up.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:25 AM PST

    Stressing out.

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:47 PM PST

Ok, so Im an android user atm (s9), and i want to switch to the iphone 11. The thing that I'm concerned about is the screen resolution, I'm the type of guy that watched a lot of YouTube and Netflix. And the iphone 11 barely passes the 720p threshold. Is it really that obvious? Should be noted that i keep my Samsung on 1440p all the time, although when i watch YouTube i do only watch in 1080p. Is it gonna be that obvious in a day to day situation? Day to day including YouTube and Netflix binge watching and what not.

People who have used Apple's Smart Battery case since day 1 (or close to it) of their >1 year old iPhone and have access to a Mac, how's your battery health according to coconutBattery?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 06:32 PM PST

iOS' built-in battery health reading only shows percentage, but coconutBattery gives you more info, such as cycle count.

Cant free up space on my iPhone X

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 04:13 PM PST

I have a 64GB iPhone X (13.1.2). I have 25 applications, 6,824 photos, and 370 videos (like few seconds clips from Snapchat, not like movies). I have no songs, movies, TV shows, or podcasts. I have 315.3MB of space remaining. I have deleted photos (nearly a thousand screenshots and random pictures) and apps (two in the past day) and my space has fluctuated between what it is now and about 600MB.

I don't want to store everything on iCloud. There should be a way to free up space on here. I have deleted all unused apps. My phone can't even keep apps running in the background anymore as it doesn't have enough usable space to keep them going. If I switch between apps, they usually need to reload. I know a lot of other people have a lot more on their phone and don't have this issue. I read online that an iPhone X with 64GB should be able to store like 17,000 Live Photo's with HDR. That's nearly triple what I'm trying to store and a majority of my pictures are not HDR (Snapchat and screenshots).

    What should I do?
