Did Apple News always have ads inside every single story? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 11:06 PM PDT This is a genuine question as I was reading articles via Apple News and noticed there's a lot of ads now (plus I haven't heard of News+ subscriptions removing ads) [link] [comments] | ||

I deleted my account but Apple kept all of my data. Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:48 AM PDT Around 2 years ago, give/take a few months, I went on a bit of a security hype. I deleted a lot of unused accounts one of which was my Apple ID. I made sure I deleted, not deactivated the account as I never expected to be going back to apple products. I was wrong, I recently went back to the iPhone and wanted to play Infinity Blade, but they stopped selling it and it could only be re-downloaded if you already had the game. I remembered my old account had the game so I called up to see if I could restore my purchases to my new account as I had the old receipts. The lady on the phone then read out my old security questions, which I found a little odd as the account was closed but I assumed they had some record of purchases for 'legal reasons'. After explaining my dillemma she looked at my account and said I could reactivate my old account. Although skeptical I went ahead assuming a lot would be missing or she had something wrong. She then asked me to recover my apple account by using my last known password, then resetting my password. To my surprise, all of my purchases, iCloud data, and even my photos were still there in iCloud despite being at 32GB on the free plan. So I was able to restore my game (YAY) but this did raise some questions. I'm sure with the recently GDPR in the UK and (Insert other legislation here) stuff Apple should've deleted all my info after those 30 days? Forgetting the legal side of it, I was told (as you'll see in the image below) my account was deleted and no longer existed which clearly, was incorrect. As (some) proof (as I don't want to post my personal email), here is the last email I received from Apple dated July 19, 2018 at 9:03:23 AM https://imgur.com/a/Q4NDSH2 I know this does not prove it was re-activated but short of posting my personal email address to the world, this is the best I can do. How often should (would) you upgrade your Apple Watch? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 09:43 PM PDT There's a sense the watch is timeless jewelry and sure Rolex and Breitling certainly meet those requirements, but in a way the Apple Watch hits that same notion and is also a piece of tech. So "upgrading" can feel like a misnomer when referencing the Apple Watch. At least for me it is. I'm sitting here thinking I should go Series 3 to 5 but think I should wait another year. I'm even thinking of riding it out until it's dead! But the features are enticing and do hit the FOMO nerve from time to time. Do you think there's a rough estimate when one should consider upgrading their watch? Assuming it's a perfect world and revisions/upgrades are pretty linear in terms of its progression. Posted: 22 Oct 2019 10:42 PM PDT I've purchased a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2015) in 2015 and recently over the years it developed stains on the screen. At first, I thought I could wipe the stain clean with a simple cleaner so I disregarded it. Just recently, after more than 4 years from purchase, I thought my eyes were getting blurry but found online that it was of this specific problem called 'staingate'. Upon learning about staingate, I scoured solutions over the internet and found that there was an internal-memo that was released within Apple to service certain models of MBPs that were affected but found that the Quality Program only spanned for 4 years. I reached out to Apple Support for help but told me to go to my nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider; the AASP initially approved a replacement for my MBP's screen but after a few hours, they called me back telling me that they can not order replacement parts for my MBP as it has already surpassed the 4 years span. I then rang Apple Support and asked to speak for a senior advisor, asking for an exemption as I had no knowledge of the recall. She then tells me the same thing, I need to pay around $450 for a screen replacement (it is quite expensive in my country, not sure about other countries). I told my self no way I'm going to spend that money for an issue that was not caused by me. I saw posts online for people that has been denied of service from Apple but then they emailed Tim Cook and either gets their device a repair or a replacement. I gave it a try, composed an email and after 2 days an Apple representative called me saying that it has been brought to their attention that I emailed Tim Cook, and from there we exchanged emails, after 3 days, Apple granted me exemption from the 4 year span and now I'm sharing this to you with my brand new staingate-free MBP. Thank you Apple! [link] [comments] |
