There’s nothing like using your iPhone naked Posted: 19 Oct 2019 09:17 PM PDT I might have spent close to $100 on phone cases, skin and off-lately a screen protector. Over the span of 21 months of my iPhone ownership (iPhone 8, for one handed reason) I've come to realization the best and the most ergonomic way to use iPhone (at least the iPhone 8) is to use it naked. iPhone 8 - the one handed king without a case (super king being iPhone SE). And the glass back feels great for someone like myself, who suffers from mild palmar hyperhidrosis. Two observation about iPhone cases: (1) Any case, no matter the manufacturer, makes my pinky finger fatigued after prolonged use. Cases with hard plastic bumper (as opposed to soft silicon bumpers) are a nightmare and give me this pain on pinky finger after a while. (2) The plasticky feeling of case back feels cheap. The front case lip on the edges creates a discontinuity to the otherwise smooth glass curved edges and aluminum sides (swiping from edges feels way more gratifying than swiping with a case back on) — — A word about screen protectors : Everyone knows that over time iPhone lose their oleophobic coating. I've used my iPhone without a screen protector for the first 20 months. The only reason that I was compelled to put a screen protector - oleophobic coating. It somewhat restored the smoothness when it comes to touch gestures on iPhone, even when using it with moist hands (hydrophobic). But a lot of these screen protectors suffer from halo effect, and even the oil fixes that some of the videos recommend are mere temporary fixes that last only for a week or two. I'm referring to full front screen protectors - the ones with curved edges extending all the way to the side edges. I feel like there is just one factory out in world manufacturing these screen protectors and thousand companies trying to monetize from it by giving it a different name, package and gimmicky marketing specs like 9H and 5D ... without any proof. Plus the quality of adhesives used on some cheaper "pack of 2" protectors is questionable - it seems to be doing more harm than good to screens, especially with the residue it leaves behind. That being said, I still worry every minute I held a naked iPhone in my hands. But the risk is worth the experience (maybe). [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Oct 2019 11:19 AM PDT The second sentence in my post title is supposed to say... "I'm getting 130 Mbps on iOS 13" iPhone XS Max. 256 gig EDIT: For those commenting that it may be something with Comcast here is a screenshot of the Speedtest on my Apple TV on the same network. Getting over 400+ Mbps [link] [comments]

The iPhone 11’s battery life improvements are actually more than just incremental Posted: 19 Oct 2019 06:12 AM PDT I upgraded from the 2 year old iPhone X, (which had a decent battery life itself) and one thing I realised is that the extra hours of battery life I get on my new iPhone 11 are the most impactful hours I've ever experienced. Obviously more hours are better, but for the most time iPhones generally maintained about a day's worth of battery life. With the iPhone 7 and beyond, Apple managed to build in more than a day's worth of juice. This was important as it changed the way we used our iPhones - we no longer felt anxious if we used our phones all day and didn't have a charger with us. Or if we were on a long flight or an abnormally hectic day. Every year we get battery life improvements and they are incremental, but in 2019 this 'incremental' improvement is worth more than it seems. The value we get in the few hours we get in the 2019 iPhones are way more valuable per hour than ever before and that's because we're encroaching on 2 day battery life - or the ability to go without a charge for two days. It may seem like 3 hours more, but it's a way bigger deal and to be honest, something that makes the iPhone 11 models worth way more than on the spec sheets. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Oct 2019 01:24 AM PDT Hey, how is the currente state of ipv6 (even v6only) implementation in apple desktops/laptops/iphones? do you know, since which version it is more or less without problems? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Oct 2019 10:59 AM PDT Hello everyone! I launched a Mac app back in May, and got some great ideas from you guys in June that have since been implemented! The app has been my main side project for a couple years. Over a dozen updates have been pushed since then and Version 2.0 just landed in the App Store. You can read more on my blog. What it is: CurrentKey automatically tracks your app-usage stats with a twist: it also tells you how you've spent time across your Spaces (Mac's virtual desktops), which it lets you assign a persistent name to. You can also jump directly between them (either via a dropdown or Global Hotkeys (a feature you guys requested last time!)). Because Apple lets you have up to 16 Spaces per screen, this is handy in navigating between them. The app is designed in a privacy-first manner (all data stays local, never leaving your machine). For stats further back than a week, there's an in-app purchase ($1 until the end of the month) that gives you bigger charts and 31-days worth of stats. Over the past few months, it's gained: Dark Mode support, ability to add hotkeys for named Spaces (my app calls them Rooms), more complete data exporting tools, 250+ custom icons (that you can assign to specific Rooms' menubar) are no longer a paid upgrade, a Room Manager that lets you merge and delete Rooms' stats, much prettier charts, weekly summary reports, and a bunch more! Download it for free in the App Store, and keep the feature requests coming! What would you guys like to see next? :D [link] [comments]

If you have screen time enabled in both iOS and macOS it’s destroying your performance and battery! Posted: 20 Oct 2019 01:31 AM PDT I enabled screentime as soon as I updated to catalina on my mac and the performance and battery life went downhill on my iPhone ever since. It was getting laggier and laggier as time went by and I got only 3-4 hours of screen on time with a brand new battery. I just disabled screentime on both and gave them a reboot. My iphone is blazing fast now and the battery seems so much better so far. I'm not sure if there is an issue on screentime itself on iOS or does it have to do something with screentime on mac that now syncs on both devices. But if you're having troubles I'd recommend giving it a shot! [link] [comments]
