How do you write near the edge of your iPad Pro?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 12:08 PM PDT

I bought the 12.9" iPad Pro just because it's the same size as an actual paper. However, I just can't use it like an actual real paper. I find it difficult to write whenever I'm near the edge of my iPad Pro.

How do you guys position or rest your hand as you're writing from left to right

Why are overlapping windows considered crucial to productivity?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 02:13 PM PDT

This is a X-post from /r/pcmasterrace as I'm curious what you'll think of it.

A common criticism against the iPad is that it doesn't allow for freely overlapping windows (ie only split-screen (and that 1 overlap)), but in my use of a normal computer, I've never felt the need for the ability to overlap in the first place.

Of course I can understand why having the ability to show multiple windows is important, but I don't see why having the ability to freely overlap windows is super important; in the end you'll probably end up using two or three windows side by side and maybe swapping them occasionally with background windows.

Even before I got my iPad, I always worked with spaces; either with one app per space (on a Mac) in full screen mode or 2 apps sharing the same space (before just positioning them side by side, now using the Mac feature). When I was doing school work, I would use three to four spaces with one space dedicated to a safari research window, another to a google doc for my project and the final one to a chat with my group mates (often 2 chat windows in split screen because they used differing apps). For game dev, I had one for Tiled/Pixen (I would change it depending on what I was doing), then one for documentation, the text editor and finally the game and console.

To me overlapping windows always seemed messy and required a lot of effort to move around and adjust all the time just to use them, and it didn't make sense when you could just have a few spaces maximising content and swipe between them. To be honest, the thing that I feel really limits the iPad is the fact that the app switcher is rearranged every single forking time you switch app so it's impossible to have layouts like that; the most one can reasonably do is switch between the current and last used space — unless you can remember the exact order in which you used each space. This means to switch apps you need to enter mission control almost every single time.

I feel like I'm really missing something about people's workflows that allow them to take advantage of freely overlapping windows effectively

I really wanna buy the new ipad air but.....

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 12:20 PM PDT

I really wanna buy the ipad air and it's a brilliant device and totally worth the price tag with a year of apple tv. The part that concerns me is the accessories for the tablet. The keyboard is totally not worth it. And the pen charging mechanism is just stupid and there's no place to keep the pen. Can someone please recommend me some third party accessories that perform as good as the Apple product?

The iPad Mini 5 deserves more recognition

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 09:11 PM PDT

In the sea of iPad Pro's in here, I often feel that the new Mini is often overlooked. Alas, I was once the same too. Coming from an iPad Air 2, I never really gave much thought to the Mini line in the past.

Now I get it. Now I understand why the Mini fans were so enthusiastic when Apple finally announced the 5th generation. I picked one up recently, and I truly adore it.

For some, it might be too small. For me, it is the perfect size to use during boring work commutes. It's absolutely spot on for reading books, comics, manga, and Reddit (duh!). At work, it is small enough to replace a regular paper notebook, while not being obnoxiously large for meetings.

The size is really what makes it. I absolutely love the portability of this thing, and while it's too small for a lot of things, it's also the perfect size for many tasks that I need it to do on a daily basis. Using it in bed is far more comfortable than using the regular size iPads, with its smaller size and lighter weight contributing to much better comfort.

The A12 in it is superb, and it never seems to struggle with anything I throw at it. The speed is just phenomenal, especially at a time when my Air 2 is starting to show its age a little bit (it has stood the test of time remarkably well, mind).

All in all, I just wanted to give the iPad Mini 5 a little bit more recognition and appreciation. It is truly a spectacular device, and an absolute joy to use.

I just wish for a truly bonkers iPad Mini Pro now. A man can dream...

Looking to get this iPad Pro soon and am in love with the Zugu Muse case, but was wondering if the amFilm protector would fit with it... or is a screen protector even necessary with this case?

    Thanks in advance!

    iPad Pro 11” keyboard case

Hi I brought the iPad Pro 11" today and just wanted everyone opinion on what keyboard to get I like the official apple one and the Logitech one seems decent

How small is too small for decent keyboard experience? I have a 12.9” ipad pro with a brydge keyboard but it’s a bit heavy to take on long trips. What is the smallest ipad with keyboard experience without sacrificing ability to write a lot on the road. I prefer keyboard cases vs stand-alone.

iPad Pro 11" (2018) vs iPad Pro 10.5" (2017) vs iPad Air (2019)

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 12:57 PM PDT

    Hi,

I just got back to University and was thinking about getting an iPad for taking notes in class. My question is, which iPad gets the job better done than the other? The ipad Pro (2018) is the superior one but has a heftier pricetag than the oter two. The iPad Pro 2017 is 2 years old but has a better refresh rate than the Air. And the Air is the newer one for a good price but the refreh rate isn't as good as the Pro one. I'll only use the iPad for taking notes and to study. Are those sizes big enough for taking notes or would you recommend the bigger one? Do you feel a difference when taking notes with the lower refresh rate?

    A decent notes app

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 12:31 PM PDT

I'm a sophomore studying mechanical engineering and I just got the 9.7 inch iPad (6th generation) and the apple pencil as a gift. I would love to take notes with it. I know about Onenote and like how it syncs to my windows laptop. However I'm looking for a more serious note taking app that lets me write on a PDF assignment and export my notes/assignments as PDF. As if writing this post Notability is $ 12 on the app store and Good notes 5 is $8. Which of the two do you guys suggest I get,if any ?

How good is iPad Pro 11 with iPadOS 13 as a laptop

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 08:35 AM PDT

With the upcoming update of iPadOS 13, I wanted to know if an iPad Pro 11 is a GOOD laptop alternative. I would like to know all the things that the iPad Pro with iPadOS could not do as a laptop (like programming?etc...)

I'm a student with a "bad" windows laptop but I'm having the opportunity to get an iPad Pro 11 for working and studying with and I've seen lots of reviews that say that they use more the ipad than their actual PC or Macbook.

(PD: I really like the note-taking feature of ipads, and will probably buy the apple pencil 2 and also the smart keyboard folio)

Need you guys to tell me your experiences and give me some advice, thanks <3.

    Condensing PDFs

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 07:08 PM PDT

    Salutation all,

I just purchased an iPad to assist in organizing numerous PDFs for a promotional exam. I'm looking for an app that will allow me to highlight portions of the PDF and collect just the highlighted portions out. I would like to be able to create flash cards or an outline with that information to review without having to use the whole PDF. I'd prefer to pay one fee than a subscription, but I'm not against an app if is streamlined and easy to use. Thank you for your time

P.S. Is the Apple Pencil worth getting for this use?

It is bad for the battery to always keep the iPad conected to the wall charger/PC?

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 02:35 PM PDT

Got a 6th gen iPad for art, my plan is to upgrade to the biggest available iPad Pro in about 3-4 years. I'm also planning to use it as a wired pen-display tablet for my PC when Astropad comes to Windows.

So I have a couple of questions about the battery life.

    • It is bad for the battery to always keep the iPad plugged into the wall charger/PC?
    • If the battery definitely dies, it is possible to keep using my iPad while plugged into a power source (charger/PC)?
