Pro tip: Sharing Between PC and iOS using SMB and Files app.

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 11:29 PM PDT

Back in WWDC, iOS 13 was introduced along with iPadOS 13, and one of the features were added was the ability to connect to a server using SMB. I consider this a big feature not only for those who have a NAS or a server, but to us peasants who wants to only transfer files/images between our cheap Windows machines and our luxurious iPhones.

Sharing files between PC and iOS is troublesome, but sharing between a Mac and iOS is one click away.

Good news: Its really easy to transfer files between your iOS device and PC, without any third party apps!(you need iOS 13 or iPadOS 13, duh)

Step 1: In Windows, know your IP address by opening cmd(command prompt) and type ipconfig, you'll see your PC's IP address, Like This!, that is a surprise tool that'll help us later. (Note:If your PC's IP Address is a DHCP, a generated IP Address, this will make the sharing a bit troublesome, make your own IP Address if can, learn more about assigning a static IP Address from this Video ) (or you can use your PC's Name)

Step 2: In Windows, Create a folder that will contain all stuff you want to share from your iOS device , I prefer it being in the desktop.

Step 3: Open the folder's Properties and select Sharing, go to advanced sharing, turn on Share this folder, click on permissions and make everyone has full control. Its unnecessary since you are connecting using your identification.

Step 4: in the Sharing tab, select Share... , then in the drop-down menu select everyone and add, make sure its read/write, then click share and apply then close the window.

Step 5: In your iOS device, go to Files, tap on browse, select the three dots in the top, tap "Connect to a server", then type smb:// then enter the IP Address you found in the IPconfig Like this! or your PC's Name , then select Registered user, then type your Windows Account name(can be found by opening cmd and seeing the name after users, like this!,) the password is your Microsoft Account, then Next and done

Step 6: make sure you did everything right by copying a file from the Files app to your PC,

Tada!, an easy, free, and fast way to share files between a PC and and iOS. (this also works with Mac and PC!)

EDIT:Changed some things for better understanding.

[iOS13] I was sent here from r/redditmobile. Does anyone know how to get rid of or even change these "Favourite" contacts that show up on the share sheet?

Went to update payment info, showed me some random persons full credit card info and billing address

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 11:17 AM PDT

As the title says. I went to update my payment info in iOS13 and while doing so, it showed me info for a Discover card (no one I know even has one of these) and the woman's full billing address.

I took screen shots of everything and am going to report this to Apple ASAP however, I just read a post here on Reddit, not sure if it was this sub or another sub related to iOS/iPhone who posted the exact same issue.

They have a case number for this incident and I wanted to talk to that person about their steps and also reference the case number they posted in the comments.

This is a major security flaw in iOS. Obviously I'm not going to post screen shots.

UPDATE: Spent about 40 minutes on the phone with Apple. They are aware of my issue and I was able to reference the case number of u/Thanamite from his post and they are taking the issue very serious. I was transferred an senior manager who quickly acknowledged how big of an issue this was and he will be escalating both our cases to higher ups. While this is a pretty scary issue, this is why I love Apple as a company. I was worried they wouldn't take the issue serious but everyone I spoke too took this matter very serious. Thanks u/MustandV6Premium for helping me find the referenced post

We Should Be Able to Set the Time For Optimized Battery Charging

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 10:46 PM PDT

I think that Optimized Battery Charging should have like some sort of way to set the time at which you want to wake up, for days where i wake up at different times on certain days and I'm sure a lot of you do to.

On iOS 13. How do I keep sound playing from Reddit app while it is in the background? (Not youtube)

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 04:50 AM PDT

Hi, I'm trying to keep sound files playing from the reddit app (soundcloud, etc, but not YouTube obviously), but every time I set my phone down or minimize the app, the sound stops playing after a little while (<30 sec). Any ideas what's causing this?

    I'm on iPhone 11, iOS 13.

2 phones (separate IDs) one Photo Library

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 07:20 AM PDT

Probably been asked many times but search is failing me..

My wife and I have had iPhones for years. My photos are catalogued and synced with photos on my Mac and in iCloud

My wife's are just in her photo stream. How can i easily get the photos from her phone into my photo library?

For example, when we've been on holiday, we'll both take photos and I'd like them all together in one digital album

Kitchen timers using QR codes instead of the NFC tags

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 07:00 AM PDT

I saw recently on Reddit a nifty setup of a NFC sheet with many predefined kitchen timers, etc., and I wondered if I could replicate this without the need of buying NFC tags. Apparently it's possible! :-) You only need to create a special QR code, then scan it using QR code reader or just point camera on it :-)

Get the shortcut here: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d145b4bd6dcc44cc9938bfc12a150fc9 (it starts a timer, then opens the clock app, but remember to ALWAYS check the steps from 3rd party shortcuts)

I've created a Pages document for myself, you can use it and customize: https://gofile.io/?c=Sk50hP (there's an instruction inside how to add more timers, and you can use the URL schema to create any kind of smart QR code)

    Enjoy! :-)

Ask for more screen time in Safari | iOS 13

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 06:47 AM PDT

As far as I can tell, iOS 13 just won't let me do that. Has anyone found a workaround?

Details: I have Screen Time on. In the past, with iOS 12, I needed to enter my Screen Time password every time Safari tried to open a new website. It was annoying, but it was doable. Now, in iOS 13, unlike any other app, I don't get the option to ask for more time. It's just not there.

And if I go to the Always Allowed section, Safari is not even listed.

I haven't set up any limit for Safari, and I don't have Screen Time for Family.

I already lost an hour with Apple Support (AppleCare+). They don't have a clue. Their only suggestion was to perform a hard restart. It didn't help.

I'm happy with Screen Time. I find it useful if my iPhone tells me my time is over and I should go to sleep. But there are times when I'm outside, past my bedtime, or I have an early or late flight. I find it extremely irresponsible for Apple to block me from using Safari when I need it, without letting me decide.

Question about the flag icons on Mail app on iOS 13

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 06:35 AM PDT

Last night I flagged an important email I wanted to check back on at a later date and noticed the icons changed from an orange dot to an orange flag icon for iOS 13.

This morning I noticed that same email I flagged yesterday was now a red flag, as were my other flagged emails. I wasn't sure what this meant so I flagged a different email and noticed it was orange as soon as I flagged it.

My question is basically what is the difference/significance between the colors and why did it change after some time (from orange to red)?

    iOS 13 Tip/Trick

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 04:06 PM PDT

For those that didn't know, when sharing something on your iOS device (not sure about Mac), you can change how you want it to be sent.

For example: When sending several photos to someone in iOS 12 it would always send as an iCloud link if it was deemed too large. You now have the option to change how you want something sent under your share sheet at the top under the share options.

    Photos Share Sheet
Safari Share Sheet (my favorite is web archive from these options)

If you know any other "hidden" tips/tricks for iOS, feel free to share them! I'm always down to learn some cool new feats.
