- Fun fact - it is hypocritical of Apple to cut support for 32-bit execution on MacOS Catalina, because the installer itself uses 32-bit execution while booting.
- “The version of MacOS on the selected disk needs to be reinstalled”
- Really odd Catalina (10.15.4) bug when using the "hidden file reveal" shortcut (Cmd+Shift+.) with a file on the desktop - seems to increment the number of documents with each press (don't think that documents are actually being created)

Mac running in the background and getting hot Posted: 14 May 2020 10:58 PM PDT So yesterday night I watched a few youtube videos, locked my MacBook, and slept. When I woke up, I hear the MacBook fans running, I open the mac and it's quite warm to touch. When I open, nothing came on the screen, then I long-pressed the power button and it shut down and then I booted it again and its working now. What would have happened? How do I know what caused it or what app caused it? Not a lot of apps were running when I closed it. [link] [comments]

Give access to my public folder ONLY on local network to a macos user Posted: 14 May 2020 11:39 PM PDT I used this method with SMB access, using Windows 10's folder credentians (which is really stupid, why would I be giving my admin's profile credentials?) Then of course the client on Macos was able to access both my public profile and my userprofile, having r/w access too. How do I allow client with MacOS to only access my public folder on my Windows 10 pc. Windows 10 and macos client have local network connection. [link] [comments]
Need a favour from someone who has a MacOS Posted: 14 May 2020 11:10 PM PDT Hello, I have written a WordPress plugin and I need to test it on a MacOS browser. I don't have a MacOS, only Windows OS and the libraries & kinko's are closed so I cant use their MacOS public computers. Testing the plugin would only take 10 minutes and would simply involve logging into the sandbox website and using the visual builder editor. I really just want to test that the editor loads on a MacOS browser (safari or chrome) and that the user can build a simple nav menu (the plugin lets people build headers for their website) without any horrific bugs occurring. If anyone would be so kind to give up 10-30 minutes of their time to do an audio skype and screenshare test of the plugin I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not sure what I could give in return apart from gratitude and ofcourse the plugin for free if you want it. Please PM if you would like to help :) [link] [comments]
Uninstall macOS Mojave and macOS Sierra Posted: 14 May 2020 06:56 PM PDT Hey there, so I'm currently trying to free up some storage space and I noticed I have "Install macOS Mojave" and "Install macOS Sierra" as the two largest apps. Do I need them on my laptop? Can I uninstall them and would there be any repercussions? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Downloaded Mojave and apps are crashing + slower? Posted: 14 May 2020 09:24 PM PDT I was running my 2015 Macbook Air on macOS El Capitan until literally last night when I decided to upgrade it to macOS Mojave. The updates were cool and everything, but when I tried playing games on Steam and Minecraft, it kept freezing and crashing. I kind of regret it now, since it was fine before on El Capitan. I read about downgrading macOS's, but I don't have a TM backup and I don't want to erase my Mac's disk on my own. Any solutions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2020 09:03 PM PDT I have about 100k photos that i want to transfer from my icloud to my external harddrive and i cant seem to find a way to change my downloads location of the photos app to get it to download the pictures from icloud to the drive. My computer is 256 gb and the photos are a total of 650 gb so i dont have the option of downloading them then transferring them to the external drive [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2020 08:54 PM PDT Attempting to migrate from an external hard drive using Migration Assistant on Catalina. Upon launching (which closes windows and logs out my account). Before I can set up the actual migration, Migration Assistant disappears and I am back on the login screen. How can I fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2020 08:24 PM PDT Source: independent research If you try to make a VM of Catalina on, well, Catalina, using an open source software like VirtualBox, the installer will repeatedly crash on startup as a result of not being able to use 32-but execution, as Catalina has that disabled down to a science. The same goes for any other version of MacOS, including all versions between 10.5 and 10.14. And yes, I tested them all. No, it definitely wasn't because I didn't realize this until now. I was just...making sure. It is impossible for Catalina to even be installed without it, so what's the deal with Apple removing it? :( [link] [comments]
“The version of MacOS on the selected disk needs to be reinstalled” Posted: 14 May 2020 08:01 PM PDT So I'm wanting to install Mojave on a separate partition on my MacBook Air 2019 because I would like to run some 32bit Mac apps, plus i miss the dashboard. I have Catelina installed as my main OS and would prefer not to have to get rid of it. I used "sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/YourExternalDriveName" to create an install USB, what am I doing wrong? nsurlsessiond taking cpu after upgrade to Catalina Posted: 14 May 2020 07:21 PM PDT Okay, so I've noticed that this process is taking lots of cpu power after upgrading from sierra to catalina. Do y'all think that I should try to go through the effort of trying to stop it or should I just wait it out? Would this process ever stop? this happened another time I upgraded to catalina and I don't remember how I got it to stop. what do y'all think? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2020 05:50 PM PDT So I've had a time machine for the last few years and it has been faithfully providing wifi and been my time machine back ups for some time. As of may 1, it has stopped being accessible as a drive for back ups. I have a 2008 iMac running OS X Server and I'm trying to get that as a time machine destination in the interim of getting a better Time Capsule and wifi solution. My problem is after I select the disk in Time Machine settings, it tries to start a back up and then it fails and says the disk cant be accessed because there was an issue with the network user name and password. The interesting thing is the two macs I'm trying to do this are hard wired through the still semi functioning time capsule. Should I try this again going through the ATT provided modem/router? Also looking for suggestions on a good, not super expensive time machine compatible network drive [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro Early 2015 Battery Drain While Sleeping Posted: 14 May 2020 01:46 PM PDT For the past couple months, my MacBook Pro has been having terrible battery drain at night when sleeping (lid closed). At the very least it will lose 20% in a night. I have tried restarting the computer multiple times and changed common settings, like bluetooth setting, resetting devices and printers and nothing has worked. The battery says it is normal and when I checked the charge cycles, the battery should still be very healthy. I checked the activity monitor and the only app that is preventing sleep is the hidd. The computer has also been much more sluggish than usual since this problem has gone on. I will past my Etracheck report below. Hopefully you guys can help! Safely updating 3rd-party fonts Posted: 14 May 2020 03:35 PM PDT I just noticed that a monospaced font I use, Fira Code, was updated recently on Github. Should I just install it directly using Font Book (and expect that the app will delete the older version of the font), or should I delete the font first and then import the update? Mission Control shortcuts stop working after reboot Posted: 14 May 2020 02:22 PM PDT Hello there! I have a lot of workspaces and I set up shortcuts to navigate between workspaces #1, #4 and #9. After reboot shortcut for workspace #9 stopped working, but the shortcuts for workspace #8 or for the additionally created worspace #10 worked just fine. After some time I got a set up with 10 workspaces. And again, after I restarted my laptop the shortcut for the last workspace stopped working. And now the shortcut for the workspace #9 works just fine, as it is for workspace #11. WTF?! Please, help :D [link] [comments] |
