After many years, Apple finally fixes Photos/Camera Roll vs Recent Photos bug in iOS 13 Posted: 06 Sep 2019 10:28 PM PDT For many years, iOS has had a bug where instead of apps having access to the primary Photos album, the "Camera Roll" loaded the "Recent Photos" album. This resulted in Facebook, Instagram, or any other app for that matter, pulling from Recents, rather than All Photos, with no option to get to All Photos. Most users may not notice this, but the major issue is that if you import old photos from a different location with metadata in tact, rather than the photos being available properly per year, they will be sorted by Data Added, rather than Date Created. For example: You have photos on your iPhone X spanning 2018 to 2019, but then you import from another old iPhone, or receive an AirDrop from a friend, involving photos from 2017. In the Recent photos, they are properly sorted as the 2018, 2019, 2017 photos, but in Camera Roll when uploading via Facebook or such, you will now have to scroll through an entire year of 2017 just to get to your 2019 photos taken the day prior. I attempted resolving this with the Photos.sqlite query method, and rebuilt the index over 5 hours, but the issue persisted. So then I got the idea of joining the iOS 13 beta, but it still showed it was an issue, so I reported some detailed feedback, and two updates later, it is now fixed! This was a huge issue for photographers, so FINALLY! Thank you, Apple! [link] [comments] |
2012 MacBook Pro just won’t boot up Posted: 06 Sep 2019 10:00 PM PDT I was just using my MacBook one day, and just closed the lid and put it into my backpack. When I pulled it out to do homework, it just refused to boot or do anything. I would really appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 09:19 PM PDT iPhone 7 plus here My phone randomly does what I described in the title in the middle of me using it. I could be browsing reddit or whatever app and that'll happen randomly. Maybe once every 5 days now for the past month. It looks like what might happen when you keep using your phone below 5% till it finally shuts off (black screen + loading icon). Except my charge level is nowhere near 0%. Anyone know why? Is my Mac supposed to be overheating. Posted: 06 Sep 2019 08:50 PM PDT Bought a 2019 13 in macbook pro about a month ago. Has the 2.4 ghz intel i5 cpu with 16 gb of ram. The machine is perfect for doing basic tasks like surfing the web or watching movies, but whenever I try to do pro level tasks, the machine gets extremely hot. Recently I tried to install a Virtual Machine, and while I was installing windows on the VM, the CPU % went up to 120-130%. The machine was also running extremely hot. Shouldn't the pro laptop be able to handle running a VM without getting unnecessarily hot. That thing was excusable as I know that Virtual Machines can use a lot of cpu power. However when I got on a google hangout, the laptop did the same thing. CPU percentage went up to 75% while I was using google hangouts. Nothing else was running. The laptop again got quite hot. Is this normal on the macbook pros? It's my first mac laptop and I had assumed it would be relatively cool except under extremely tasking tasks, like editing 4k videos or something. It should also be noted that my battery went down 23% in 30 minutes while on the google hangout. Am I missing something here? My crappy $800 laptop could do all this without getting hot at all. Do the macs just run hot? I had the mac on my desk, nothing was blocking the fans. I also don't want to purchase any stands or anything, as this is a $2000 laptop and shouldn't need 3rd party accessories(besides the dongles) to be able to function properly. Below I've attached a picutre of the cpu usage during the google hangouts. https://i.redd.it/g1e8bf8hg3l31.png If anyone knows what the CPU time, idle wake ups, and PID sections mean that would also be helpful. Posted: 06 Sep 2019 08:42 PM PDT I'm a PC tech by trade. Apple is fairly uncharted territory for me. I had a client with a dead iMac ask me to transfer files to an external drive. I removed the glass and screen, got the hard drive, plugged it into a USB to sata dock. When I plugged it into my MacBook, I can see the volume. However, there is no users folder. What is the process for me to recovery her data? [link] [comments] |
Macbook pro not sleeping at all. Posted: 06 Sep 2019 08:18 PM PDT My 2009 MacBook pro doesn't want to sleep. If I close the lid the sleep light comes on but doesn't blink. The computer also gets pretty hot and the fans startup. The same thing happens if I go to the Apple menu and try to make it sleep with that. I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, resetting my printers, and uninstalling recently installed apps. However, nothing has worked for me. I'm not sure I should mention this or not but occasionally the Macbook just decides not to start up. It'll say "you need to restart your computer" or something like that. If anyone can help me out, that would be appreciated. I'm just worried that my Mac not sleeping will drain my battery. Or since it gets so hot, burn a hole in my backpack. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Sep 2019 07:52 PM PDT Hi there, My dad had to do a hard reset on his phone recently and it wiped everything— it's an iPhone 6. He knows the Apple ID and password but for some reason it's saying it's incorrect. We just logged into iCloud with the same credentials and it works. Find my iPhone isn't working on the iCloud if that makes any difference. I also tried syncing it with the iPad (since the two recognize each other) but the iPad stalls on an endless circle and the phone reverts to the manual screen where it prompts you to put in the ID and pw. Help pls.. [link] [comments] |
Redeem US code on Aus account? Posted: 06 Sep 2019 07:38 PM PDT Can I change my country on my account to US store to redeem a US iTunes movie code then switch back to Australia store and be able to watch it in my tv app? [link] [comments] |
how to add messages back to the bottom bar?!?!?! Posted: 06 Sep 2019 12:04 PM PDT Yesterday I foolishly let mytwo year old play with my I phone 8 - when I took it back it appeared that she had deleted my "messages" icon that was located in the bottom bar of my phone (I think this called my I phone dock, per google). I still have my messages because if I scroll over a screen I see the "messages" icon in the "siri app suggestions" box. I cannot move this icon though from the "siri app suggestion" box back into my "I phone dock". I have also looked through all the other folders located on my I phone just to be sure she didn't move the "messages" icon into another folder by accident. But it is not anywhere else other than the "siri app suggestions". Does someone have an idea as to how I add the "messages" icon back into my I phone 8 dock?? Please help!! [link] [comments] |

Does Time Machine still delete random files? Posted: 06 Sep 2019 06:39 PM PDT About a year ago I had that issue happen to me with a Time Machine restore - you can find discussions about it by clicking here, clicking here or clicking here. But I haven't been able to find any posts about it from this year - could it be possible that Apple has fixed is? I guess I just want reassurance before I start trusting my Time Machine backups again. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Sep 2019 06:39 PM PDT Hi guys, I know this might not be the perfect sub-Reddit for my question, but I have a concern regarding a setup I'd like to purchase in the very near future. I have a 15" MacBook Pro 2018 (please don't judge my "laptop of choice") and I was planning to get an eGPU, either the RX 5700 XT or non-XT along with Razer Core X. Since I don't own a powerful USB-C (or Thunderbolt 3) dock, I'd like to get one that has a lot of ports and has enough power to drive the things I use, I was planning to get the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock. The problem is I will use both the eGPU and dock simultaneously, and both charges my MacBook. I heard that it can break MacBooks and I don't even want to risk trying. Perhaps I won't need to plug power into the dock but possibly risking power loss to the ports? Or should I get a different dock? I have no idea and I don't have the resources to test it out. Do you any of you guys have any suggestions? If you do, even if it was simply an idea, please help me. Thanks a lot in advance! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 06:32 PM PDT I have an Apple Watch Series 2. All of a sudden while I was wearing it, it looked like this. It was still vibrating so it seems to be on. I tried pressing and holding the buttons; that white line goes away and if I keep holding, it comes back. Any way to fix it? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro 2017 - Vertical Lines covering Display Posted: 06 Sep 2019 06:22 PM PDT Hello! Last weekend I went to use my 2017 Macbook Pro and the display was covered with vertical pink lines. I didn't drop it, or spill anything on it, one second it worked and one second it didn't. My best guess is a cable fell out in the inside? It's no longer usable, but between these lines I can make out the log in screen (and could log in, but can't really do anything else). It was purchased in July 2018 and just ran out of its one year warranty. The apple store near me quoted about $500 to fix the issue. I took it to a private macbook repair near me yesterday and they told me it was part of the "flexgate" issue, and that I should push back to Apple. I spoke with someone on the phone today at Apple and they told me that Apple only recognizes 2016 Macbooks as being affected. Has anyone with a 2017 Macbook Pro had this issue? Is it worth paying the fee to fix? Or does this sound totally unrelated to "flexgate"? If I pay the fee, what happens if the same issue happens a year from now? Any advice from people in a similar situation would be really appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Restoring photos from backup hard drive? Posted: 06 Sep 2019 05:35 PM PDT Sooooo.....My first Mac was the mid 2010 model, and it lasted about 5 years. It would run slow, and it would take anywhere from 5-10 minutes just to open any kind of application. Somebody from Apple suggested that I delete everything from my Mac and then restore it. They suggested that I buy an external hard drive (purchased a Mypassport) and to put everything on there and just restore....Easy right? After resetting my Macbook and restoring from my hard drive, everything returned EXCEPT my photos ( I believe they were saved in iPhoto, not sure if that makes any difference). I took my laptop and the hard drive to the genius bar, and they searched through the hard drive and couldn't find the photos. Almost as if they were never saved. Is there somewhere in the process that I may have messed up? I ended up buying a new Macbook Pro (2015) and hoping the photos would return from the backup, but still no luck. I still have the 2010 Mac and Hard drive with the hopes that I can figure out a way to retrieve almost 8 years of photos. Is there somewhere in the process that I may have messed up? What are some things that I should look into? Did I even post this in the appropriate place, or is there somewhere else I should post? Please feel free to leave ANY feedback/questions. I do not want to give up hope on this so anybody can point me in the right direction! Much appreciated. [link] [comments] |

(HELP) iPad Air A1747 Charging issue: Only charging in specific way since fall Posted: 06 Sep 2019 04:56 PM PDT My iPad fell about 1ft off the bed frame with the charger in (there's a gap between my mattress and edge of the bed frame), I think it landed square on the charger then flipped onto the carpeted floor in its case. The iPad stopped charging so I've cleaned out the port, and used different cables/charger combos. Despite the cable and port not visibly being damaged in any sort of way, the cable seems more than likely busted, as it does not charge my housemates iPhone. He let me borrow his official Apple charger which works on his iPhone fine. The iPad does charge with this working cable, but it seems only under very specific circumstances:
I was hoping someone could give me idea of where the issue may lie, and whether it is likely I could achieve a DIY fix with it. Charging off my girlfriend's MacBook is an inconvenience I'd rather avoid longer term. I have a certain degree of experience in doing delicate phone repairs, but was hoping to get some sort of second opinion before I start trying to pull it all apart. Thank you for your time. Question about the new iPhones and preordering Posted: 06 Sep 2019 12:58 PM PDT Hey guys - Hopefully going to be preordering one of the new iPhones when they drop within the next few weeks. I'm planning on trading in my existing iPhone with Giveback. Yes, I know I could sell it for more, but I'd rather just get it off my hands as quickly and painlessly as possible. I'm wondering if I'm able to preorder and trade in at the same time and just refund the difference to my payment method or something along those lines? I've never preordered an iPhone before so I was wondering if someone who had knew how it works. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
iPhone 6 on iOS 12.1.4 suddenly nearly full - most data taken up by system and other Posted: 06 Sep 2019 04:41 PM PDT I've had a 64GB iPhone 6 (not this particular one, had a previous one too) for around 3 years now. I've been restoring from backup with every new phone for around 5 years, and never run into this issue before. I've always had around 30GB free of space (every few months I delete most of my photos and have it automatically set to delete messages older than 30 days). The last time I checked (maybe around March?) I also had 30GB free. Now, I suddenly have 3GB free. Most of the storage is taken up by what is classed as 'other', under which I can see 30GB taken up by the system. Is there a way to reduce this without factory resetting? Surely the system can't really be taking up 30GB? [link] [comments] |
