Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:05 AM PDT I work on the computer and travel a lot as I work remotely. There will never be a time that I can be without my computer for 3 weeks. The Apple store employee suggested I use an iPad for work for a few weeks, which is 100% not an option for me. I asked the employee and he confirmed that they won't let me on a plane with this Macbook unless I've gotten the replacement battery. I don't know what to do here. Is anyone else dealing with this? How many eSIMs can an iPhone have? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:34 PM PDT I've searched for this and can't find actual documentation — how many eSIMs can one (eSIM capable) iPhone have? I recently switched to eSIM via T-Mobile and ditched the physical one. If I want to add another eSIM, either domestically or abroad, can I? What is the limit? Please share source/Apple knowledge base links if possible, too! [link] [comments] |

My experience with Apple's repair process. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:28 PM PDT So, about a week ago, I brought in my 2014 MBP 15" Retina to the Apple Store because of swollen batteries. The process was fairly simple. Make an appointment. Arrive for said appointment. Wait for a "genius" to take a look at your device. After they looked at my device, they determined that the device needed to be sent to their repair center ie. depot. I was told the machine would be fixed and returned within 3-5 business days. I was also told that I would be contacted by depot to confirm the repair. A couple of days after they sent my Mac, I received an e-mail advising me that there was a repair status update. When I went to the repair site, it indicated that the quote was updated from $200 to $575. I called Apple support and the agent I spoke with told me that the depot indicated that there was an issue with the camera. Said issue was not documented for me to see on the repair status site (which is why I had to call). I informed the Apple support agent that I just wanted my batteries replaced. She advised me that depot would call me back regarding this matter. Depot never called back. I ended up calling the Apple store and spoke to an employee who said he would transfer me over to someone at depot. He, instead, just transferred me to regular Apple support. I advised the support agent that I was supposed to be transferred to someone at depot. She said she would get someone from depot on the line. Instead of getting someone from depot on the line, she put a "senior agent" on the line. The senior agent then told me that the issue was with the LCD. I told her that, during my first phone call, I was told that it was the camera. She then looked at the notes and told me there was a camera failure but failed to explain what the camera failure had to do with replacing the LCD. I told her that I just wanted my battery replaced. She informed me that Apple could not do that. She said Apple's policy was to repair everything or nothing at all. I informed her that I was not going to pay $575 for the repair and that I wanted my Mac back. She directed me to the repair status site and informed me to process the return there. I did so and was informed that the device would be back in my hands in 5-7 business days. I ended up getting my Mac back on Friday. I powered on my device while at the store to make sure it was working. When I got home, I took a better look at the device and noticed a few things. I could not feel a swell on the bottom of the Mac. It turns out they replaced the batteries, the top case, and whatever else is associated with top case assembly. I called Apple support about this and they informed me that there was no documentation of any parts being replaced. They informed me that my Mac wasn't part of the recall so they don't know why the components were replaced. The Apple support agent did venture to guess and said that maybe it was replaced because they deemed the battery defective because of the low cycle count (228). I know the battery was replaced because there is no longer a swell and the cycle count now says 1. I know the top case was replaced because the nicks and dents are no longer there. I'm assuming my keyboard and trackpad were also replaced. Oh, by the way, the camera works. I don't believe that was replaced because I was told that when the camera goes bad, they just replace the entire LCD. Before I close, Apple sent my Mac to a third party. That third party is CSAT Solutions, LP. From what I read online, it's like a sweatshop where an employees schedule is not 9-5 but more like 7 to finish (ie. whenever you finish all of your repairs). So, I guess, it was easier for the tech to just replace my components instead of putting my existing ones back together. TL;DR: Sent in my Mac for a battery replacement. Apple wanted me to pay an additional $375 to replace a failed camera. I declined. Got my machine back and found that the batteries, top case, etc. were replaced. And the camera works. Find my iPhone not working, how often does location update?! Posted: 01 Sep 2019 06:41 PM PDT Hi guys, not sure where to post this really. My girlfriend lost her phone around 6.40pm yesterday. She met me at work at around 8.15pm and told me. I logged in to find my iPhone using her Apple ID and it showed her phone as offline. The location showing was from 05.40am that day and she had been using her phone, connected to mobile data online, up until the point she lost it. She has an iPhone 7 which was updated with the latest software. Does find my location not refresh often? Would this be the reason her iPhone location was not updated all day? Or did she perhaps turn off find my iPhone? https://imgur.com/gallery/WuxSya3 Edited to add screenshots [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:08 PM PDT My iphone SE makes a photo click sound and video record sound regardless of my ringer being off or on, my sfx volume brings all the way down, and do not disturb being on. Any tips? I already tried resetting it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 05:11 AM PDT Or is it going to exclude what I toggled off? I just don't have a need to have a lot of that anywhere but in a backup I don't need it readily accessible through iCloud so I'd prefer to disable it but I want a full, complete iCloud backup of my iPhone. Persistent Facebook Notification Noise Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:51 PM PDT Hello! I have a late 2012 iMac, and have an issue with a persistent alert noise associated with receiving Facebook messages. It is not an Apple system sound, nor can I seem to find it anywhere in my computer's Library folders. I believe it is associated with the Opera web browser, which features an in-browser Facebook messenger client. I have since deleted Opera in favor of Safari, and begun using a third party app for Facebook Messenger. However, the noise still plays and persists now in addition to the 3rd party client's own notification noise, and is also present when I have Facebook open in Safari, where again I get two noises. It is worth noting that I still hear it even with no other apps open besides the 3rd party Facebook Messenger client, and still get two separate sounds. I am including a link to an audio recording of the sound. If anyone has any idea on how to get rid of this thing, I'd be much obliged! Apple support was no help. Thanks in advance! Sharing Mac's Location on Find My Friends? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:34 PM PDT Is it possible to share my location from my MBP instead of from my phone? I have tried everything, but my mac won't show up as another option in the "share location from" section. Please help :-( [link] [comments] |
Old iMac (2011) not connecting to Wireless/ Bluetooth devices and internet Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:52 PM PDT So my ultimate goal is to be able to get Blender onto my old iMac and use it as an editing hub for Blender, iMovie and voice recording videos, transferring the files to an external hard drive and then uploading them via my laptop. But more ideally, I'd like to be able to do that over my iMac if possible (for obvious reasons). I haven't used it in a few years, and last time I tested it (last year), I was able to turn it on, but now both the keyboard (which I fixed from corroded batteries) and the mouse won't connect via Bluetooth. Before this, the Wifi internet stopped connecting after just 3 years of use. It was supper annoying. Am I going to need to bring it to an apple store, or another repair shop, and is this kind of problem even fixable? Any advice or perspectives is welcome. [link] [comments] |

Trying to use internet recovery for a new hard drive, but running into an issue. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:20 PM PDT |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 06:45 PM PDT First time I've ever had this issue on an iPhone, it's about a year old, was given to me by Apple when they did a screwy battery replacement which destroyed my original one. In the past week or so I've been unable to hear (well extremely low volume) from the receiver. On speaker it expectedly sounds fine. I've checked the sound settings and everything is max volume. When I'm on a call and volume up, it's maxed out. The grill is ever so slightly dirty, but my XS Max has the same amount of grime on the grill with no loss of sound. Any troubleshooting steps I can take to see what the potential problem is? [link] [comments] |

[QUESTION] Are Macbook Pro replacement screens also defective? Staingate 2.0? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 05:42 PM PDT About a year and a half ago I had my Macbook Pro screen replaced at an Apple Store due to the glossy coating flaking off. #Staingate. The replacement screen I received was very filthy, with a thick oil or something covering it. I asked Apple Repair why that was, but they had no answer for me. I said I wanted the screen cleaned, but they told me they could not without risking damaging it. So, I told them to replace the screen again as I would not accept the repair. This resulted in Apple Repair breaking my mother board and having to send it off to get it replaced. After a month without my Macbook, I picked it up looking brand new with a brand new screen, but I soon discovered a bright spot in the center. Not wanting to deal with more delays and headaches, I took it and simply ignored the defect which (only noticeable on bright backgrounds). However, less than six months after my repair and my warranty running out, my screen began flaking again. I have ignored it as it remained in the corners, but now I am seeing lines appear across my screen. Apple Repair simply gave me another defective screen instead of a new one. I am sick and tired of this. Has anyone else had to deal with this and know of any solutions? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Sep 2019 05:22 PM PDT I got this iphone 5 i think and i need to activate it. It says it needs the apple id from the previous owner but i have no clue who that is, since the people from the sale got it from abandoned storage lockers. I went on the apple help site and it only says how to unlock if you have contact with past owners but none about my situation. How do you activate? [link] [comments] |
