Would anyone else love to see a 3:2 MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 05:58 AM PDT

Back in 2001 starting with the 15" TiBook to the late 2005 15" Aluminium PowerBook, Apple used a 3:2 aspect ratio while most other companies were using 4:3. Then, like everyone else they went to 16:10 and thankfully stuck with that while the rest of the industry went to the godawful 16:9 ratio. But having seen 3:2 make a return with Microsoft's Surface products and Google's Chromebooks makes me with Apple would go the same route and start making at least 15" MacBook Pro's with the 3:2 ratio.

I have a late '05 PowerBook and even though the screen is much dimmer and more washed out than my 2014 retina, I can't get over how much I prefer how things fit on the screen when it's slightly taller (the PowerBook has a 1440x960 resolution while the MBP emulates 1440x900). The extra height is great for Macs with having the dock on the bottom of the screen while still not losing any space for applications.

I haven't seen much discussion about the topic with regards to Macs so maybe I'm on my own here but I just think 3:2 is the perfect shape for a laptop display hands-down. Anyone else feel the same way?

Unpopular Opinion? Device names all should have monikers when there are multiple models in the product lines (air, pro, etc). thoughts?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 03:05 PM PDT

For product lines with multiple models there shouldn't be a model with no extra model at the end, e.g.: macbook pro/air. Having a "just macbook" or "just ipad" makes it confusing and also less appealing. I see an exchange like this as very clunky:

person a: "What ipad do you have?"

    person b: "the ipad"

a: "yeah but which ipad is that..."

    b: "the ipad. just ipad."

same for macbooks and other lines. once there are multiple models in the lineup, the "just _____" model needs to go away.
