Android Users who moved to iOS.. Was the switch worth it?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 05:55 AM PDT

Okay i've been an Android user since 2011, but now i've been considering to move to iOS as my main phone.

I used to flash custom roms a lot, but then eventually i realised that stock firmware had everything i really needed anyway, i didn't really need customization but just something that just "works" and looked pretty out of the box.

I also gotta say that the google play store sucks and it's hard to find actual good games without finding atleast one virus/ad filled game.

Update : thanks for all your responses guys!! I might be picking up an iPhone hopefully soon.

Apple, please let us choose if we want the home bar on or off.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 02:33 PM PDT

I can understand why some individuals may want to keep the home bar on, but it's very distracting in certain situations. I know you can remove it temporarily via guided access but why not just include a toggle under the accessibility options to enable/disable it?

It is pretty much the norm to swipe up or down to access tabs, options or go back to your home screen on most phone that are out there now- we don't have or need a bar at the top of our iPhones showing we can access the control center so why is it required at the bottom of the screen?

With iOS 13 coming out right around the corner now would be a great time to add this option.

    AirDrop really is the best

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 04:25 AM PDT

Went wakesurfing with friends last night. All but one had iPhones and at the end of the night everyone just airdropped the pictures and videos of each other instant full quality, just tap one button. One girl who was with us had a Samsung and there was no easy for her to share the photos or videos with us in full quality. AirDrop is one of those small simple features you don't think of much but if you ever moved away from iOS it would be greatly missed.

Any apps to keep track of your monthly subscriptions?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 02:25 AM PDT

Pretty basic will do. Something I can add on all my subscriptions/direct debits such as gym, netflix and so on. Reminders of when they due would be nice too but not that bothered by it. Anyone can recommend anything?

    Alcohol pads safe for iPhones?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 09:15 AM PDT

Are the 70% isopropyl pads safe to use with the device screens when applying the screen protectors? I am reading mixed reports online about their safety against water proof seals and oleophobic coatings.

People keep saying to use a lens cleaner like the Zeiss wipes but they have the same ingredients. Water and alcohol.

Is there a way to have only certain apps have notifications at certain times in the day?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 02:50 AM PDT

Is there a sort of 'work mode' or something similar where I can have the apps that I use at work to have notifications come through but others are silent?

How do I remove the iMessage Apps? I don’t use it and it’s annoying when you accidentally click it then it expands like it’s mocking you, covering the Text Message Bar.

    Time Limit Help

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 09:22 AM PDT

Is there a way to set a time limit on an Iphone? I saw articles on how to limit screen time, but I would like to disable the phone at a certain time each night and have it turn on again at a reasonable time in the morning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Pi-Hole + VPN sufficient for general security/privacy?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 03:17 AM PDT

Pi-Hole or AdGuard for DNS blocking + VPN

Is that sufficient in terms of blocking ads/trackers and handling traffic system-wide? Or is there any thing else I should do?

Some other apps I use for security/privacy purposes - Signal for messaging - BitWarden for PW management - FF for browser

Would welcome any other app recommendations

Strange lock screen glitch. If the date text was closer to the time text, and notifications pushed the time up, I actually wouldn’t mind this at all.

Anyone else having some trouble downloading app updates recently? My iPhone does this whenever i hit “Update All.”

Someone please explain the apple care differences

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 11:50 PM PDT

So I'm a little confused as to how this works, but let me explain my situation. A few months back I cracked my back camera glass on my iPhone XS, but I had Apple Care+ (through TMobile) and so the replacement was $100. Now my girlfriend has an iPhone 8+ (cracked front and back) on Sprint and she has Apple Care (not Apple Care +) we were going to switch her over to my plan on T-Mobile, but they said in order for them to take her phone in and pay it off it has to be in good condition. So since she only has Apple Care and not plus, will it cover the damage for her to get it replaced? And approx how much would she have to pay? I'm not entirely sure about the difference between apple care and +

Group Text - One user SMS

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 05:00 AM PDT

I understand we cannot leave these and we're always going to be getting the texts, but is there any way to disable my Iphone from saying I have 1 new text if it's from this specific group? That way it'll update but my phone won't tell me I have a new unread text from this group? Seriously hate being in group text.

EDIT: I'm not talking about the notifications that you get from when a new text is sent. I'm specifically talking about when you're on the home screen and the iphone says you have 1 unread text. I don't even want to see that because I can't leave this group because someone has an android.

    Smartwatch

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 03:59 AM PDT

Is there any other smartwatch, besides the Apple Watch, that works well with the iPhone? People that use other devices can please share your experience? I heard that there's always limitations and the experience might not be good with the other brands.

Does anyone else constantly notice micro lags especially with 3D Touch and scrolling on the 10s? I recently upgraded from my iPhone 7 to a 10s and this thing has so many microlags. I read up on articles that say the Xs has issues with this already and for the price this shouldn’t be an issue.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 03:35 AM PDT

For example if I scroll in Apollo it sometimes has a delay to actually scroll and it makes it feel like I'm using an android. 3D Touch consistently lags a lot especially when 3D touching on pictures and pulling up.

Would Apple remove the SIM card slot?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 10:31 AM PDT

Do you think that Apple will remove the SIM slot on the iPhone within the next few years?

Apple are usually the first to remove something and the iPhones now have E-SIM support, so why not remove it?

    Safari to Reddit app

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 09:17 PM PDT

Is it me or does trying to switch from a Reddit web page on Safari to the Reddit app doesn't work always? There are three "open in app" links all over the page and all of them except one take me to the app store. This especially happens when I go from Twitter -> in-app Safari -> Reddit web page -> open in Reddit app.

I'm using the Reddit's official iPhone app and iPhone 7. I've seen similar issues when trying to switch to the YouTube app as well.

Is this a bug in Safari?

Lock screen shortcuts for iPhone 8 and older?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 08:25 PM PDT

Since 3D Touch is going away and being replaced with a long press, is there any reason why the flashlight and camera shortcuts can't be added to older devices that have bezels? Or are those bezels the reason they can't be added?

Is it weird one of my hobbies is purchasing apps just to try them?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 07:03 PM PDT

As title says. I don't smoke, I rarely drink. One of my hobbies includes scrolling through the App Store and purchasing apps just to try them out! What makes it even more fun is discovering really awesome third party developer apps..

Currently using: Things 3 Fantastical CARROT Pocket Casts (purchased Castro premium as well) Apollo Ultra Halide Darkroom (all features unlocked) Twitterific (purchased Tweetbot 5 as well) Clear Streaks

I love just trying new apps, even if i dont need a client replacement. Plus as i mentioned, its always nice to support third party.
