    Apple Macbook AIR VS PRO

    Apple Macbook AIR VS PRO

    AIR VS PRO

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 09:34 AM PDT

I'm about to purchase a new MacBook but I can't decide which one I should get. I don't do anything crazy intensive on a regular basis, just internet, videos, movies, music, etc. Occasionally I'll use some video editing or music production but not a lot.

I want good battery life and a light, portable machine. I can get the pro or the air at the base model. I don't care about the Touch Bar.

I like the air for the simplicity, it's light, good battery and decent speed and screen. The pro is obviously more future proof with regards to speed but I loose the extra lightness and battery life.

I'm so stuck between them. I can't imagine the pro will make a huge difference in my daily activity with regards to speed, it's not like the air is awful and slow.. it's just less powerful. But I can imagine the air will be better for me.

    Thoughts?

Did I make a mistake buying a MacBook Air?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 05:03 PM PDT

My mom recently bought me and my sister a MacBook Air 13' 2017 (she's going into 9th grade and Im going into 11th). I had an Asus computer and a Chromebook before but they both slowed down a lot. I didn't really do research (I know its bad) and just got this one because there was a really good deal on Best Buy and Ive heard that they last a long time. I don't really do that much on a laptop except play sims, do schoolwork and watch netflix/youtube which does better then my last two. The reason I'm wondering if I made a good decision is because I know its a few years old and Im also scared Im going to be made fun of for having a MacBook. I honestly like it a lot and If I could just hide in my room and use it without anyone knowing I would be happy. Ive also heard a lot of people bashing MacBooks and especially this ones screen resolution but I think its good (compared to my Chromebook lol) I know this is rambling but do you think I made a good purchase (my mom says we can't return it eek) or do you think I made a mistake?

Tips for a new Macbook user?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 11:39 PM PDT

Been using Windows all my life and about to (somewhat hesitantly) switch over to Mac and iOS. I'm currently looking at a 13", 256GB, i7 processor MacBook Pro. Any advice or tips on the purchasing (i.e. is this the best MacBook or laptop to get?) / adjustment / MacBook usage / general information?

P.S. Any info on the battery life would be great too :))

How much space does the MAC OS take on a Macbook?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 08:46 PM PDT

I am considering buying a Macbook Pro, however the cheaptest model is 1300$ and has 128gb if space. How much of that space would be taken up by the actual OS and how much would I have left over?

Backpack for 15" laptop and 13" tablet

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 02:36 PM PDT

Was wondering if there is someone out here that could provide me with an link to purchase a backpack that fits a 15" laptop and 13" tablet. Most backpacks I find only have room for a 10" tablet. The cheaper the better, as long as it isn't sht. (15" laptop will be a MacBook Pro and the 13" tablet is the iPad pro 13")

"Apple pay has been disabled because the security settings of the mac were modified"

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 03:08 AM PDT

Hello! So this is one big Story and a HUGE problem with Apple pay. I was trying to setup Apple pay on my MacBook Air 2018 and the System provided the probem in the Title. I was confused, because I Reseted the MacBook ONLY for this thing. I looked on the provided Apple site post, and nothing helped. My Security Is set to full, I don't use the MacBook closed, and the system is set to automatic updates. The MacBook has a T2 chip and that is not the problem. The system is updated to Mojave 10.14.5 I already contacted Apple support and they tried every Troubleshoot they had for Apple Pay, and they contacted their engineers and I have been waiting for 2 weeks. They said that they will contact me in 1-3 days about this.

If anyone knows a solution, please comment it.

Macbook died now charger blinking green

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 05:02 PM PDT

My MacBook died on me unfortunately, it suddenly stopped charging. I plugged it in and now it's blinking green every second, and showing me the low battery screen.

What can I do to reset the pram ? Really not looking forward to an expensive fix. My computer seemingly keeps wanting to reset itself but it's not receiving power.

I've tried plugging into somewhere else as well, and at the moment I lack the tools to open my macbook. I'm using a replacement non-apple charger as well, and I had noticed it was charging when it was turned on.

    Macbook Pro 2019 Problem!

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 12:23 PM PDT

    Macbook Pro 2019 Problem!

On the edges on my Macbook Pro 15 inch 2019 model when I feel the edges of the enclosure there is a slight click sound. As if the hardware or motherboard is being touched or clicked against when there is a slight amount of pressure when holding the edges.

Note: This is actually a brand new replacement Apple sent me as my other one in the centre of the enclosure was tapping the base and making a slight ding/click type of sound when there was pressure. I know that these Macbook Pros are slim in size and compact but I just hope this isn't damaging the hardware inside. I added a photo of where the base/enclosure is making the click sound.

Here is a video of the sound.

3 red notifications on System Preferences app in dock, can't figure out what they are

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 04:00 PM PDT

    Hey,

I got a new MacBook Pro a couple days ago, and I finally configured my dock this morning and my System Preferences app had 4 notifications. One of which was an update, now it's down to 3. I don't see anything when I click on iCloud, there's no more software updates, I have no idea what the three notifications are but it's driving me crazy.

Please help so I don't have to look at that ugly red 3 anymore.

Is the 15 inch overkill in my situation?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 03:11 PM PDT

I need help deciding between the 2019 13" MBP with an i7, 516gb, and 16gb RAM or base model 15" MBP.

My uses: - Making Music - Photo Editing (Specifically film pictures) - Video Editing (4K Editing) **Main Deciding Point

I love the portability of the 13" but heard the 15" is more powerful. I won't be doing hardcore 4K editing as if I was working for a company but more for recreational use. I heard I could just use proxies to make editing 4K more easier.

In my situation, I'm not too sure if the 15" would be overkill or just perfect.

Would the 13" be okay or should I just get the 15"?

MacBook Pro 2018 losing battery power fast

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 02:13 PM PDT

So when I got my macbook I was really impressed with the extremely good battery life. I had this laptop since January and right now the battery is draining really fast.

When I checked the cycles it says that the battery status is good but just rn I started using the laptop at 75% (mostly browsing) and now after about 1h 30 later its down to 35%....

    2018 vs 2019 15" model

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 06:13 AM PDT

I'm in the market for a new Mac, as my current one is showing it's age and there are also sometimes issues with the graphics card I believe.

I'm set on a MacBook Pro 15" but are not sure which model to get.

Either the 2018 base line i7 with a RAM upgrade to 32GB, as my current Mac is often using more than 10GB during light to medium work (this could be because of the age and the fact that it's only 1600 MHz DDR3) and almost all of the 16GB available when editing in Photoshop or Lightroom.

    or

The 2019 base line i7 15" model. This one costs around one hundred Euros more and I'd get a new 9th. gen CPU and presumably better keyboard ( I know that if the keyboard of an older MacBook has to be repaired, they exchange it with the newer butterfly keyboard, so this is a factor I'm keeping in mind.) Other than that I've heard that the thermal efficiency is better in the new model.

My question now is if the RAM upgrade to 32GB is worth it over a newer CPU and better thermal efficiency or are 16GBs enough for the next couple of years? Also most of the reports of heavy thermal throttling I've heard were from i9 processors. Is the i7 as much affected as the i9 or is it better in this model?

    Alternative to 12" Macbook

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 12:10 PM PDT

    Hi,

I recently upgraded my 13" MBP to a 15" model and I'm very happy so far.

But I noticed that I want something smaller for traveling.
I thought of the 12" MB but I don't think that it's worth the high price especially since it was discontinued and has an old version of the butterfly keyboard.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative? I don't need much power, but a full desktop OS, so iPads are no option.

How much should I sell my 2017 12" Macbook Rose Gold for?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 09:32 AM PDT

it is 2017, rose gold 1.2ghz, 8gb memory, 256gb storage. excellent condition with original charger and box.

i see extremely varying prices across the board. I don't want lowball offers, but I also want to be fair.

It has less than 100 battery cycles (right now at 84)

    thank you!

Worth it to repair 2017 Macbook Air?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 09:15 AM PDT

I bought my Macbook Air new in January 2018 and found out yesterday that the logic board is done for. I don't heavily use it and took good care of it. Since it was not water damaged, Apple Store said they will flat rate repair it for $475.

I'm trying to decide if it is worth repairing it? It's kind of disheartening to pay a premium for a Macbook expecting quality and long life and have it last so little time. My Acer C720 chromebook is still trucking away and I have an old Acer netbook bought in 2012 that is still being used today.

I am stuck with trying to decide if a repair is worth it. I can buy a pretty good Chromebook or Windows laptop for a bit more than the cost of repairing the Air, but then again I do like using my Macbook Air. I'm just gunshy that if a logic board can go out so easily(without any damage to it), then maybe I should just go back to what I know.

Also, how much would it worth if I sold it for parts?

Finally, a technical question: From day 1, my Macbook didn't properly sleep. I would close the lid and three or four days later, it would be down to almost no charge left. I chalked that up to the just the behavior of the machine, but I wonder if that could have been a symptom of a fault logic board from the get go? I have no problem paying to fix the Macbook IF I can figure out why the logic board went out.

    Thanks!

Help choosing. Why does apple not have 16GB Ram standard in MacBook Pro 13”

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 04:11 AM PDT

I need to get a computer for my new job where I will be running multiple web application including Slack, salesforce, Google Products, PDF, Dropbox etc....

Since I am starting next week I pretty much need the laptop ASAP.

Unfortunately Apple only offers the MacBook Air and the 2.4GHZ MBP 13" available for pickup in store today.

I would prefer to get 16GB Ram and save some Money getting the 1.4GHZ MBP. Unfortunately that's a special order and wont arrive until August 1st which is not acceptable in my situation.

Do you think the 8GB Ram with the 2.4ghz MBP is enough for my use case? What about the Air with 16GB 512 GB SSD as an alternative?

This laptop needs to last 3 years at which point I can get a replacement through my company.

    Thanks for the help!

Weird (probably stupid) question, but I’d love some help!

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 01:26 AM PDT

So, I had a MacBook Pro (2013 I believe) that died out of the blue a couple weeks ago. Took it to a shop to get checked out and they basically said the motherboard was corroded, and that getting that fixed would cost more than buying a whole new (refurbished) MacBook, so that's what I did. My new 2015 has been working great so far, but I've lost access to the years-worth of work stored on my dead 2013 model. It's so dead that Best Buy wasn't even able to extract anything off the hard drive.

Finally getting to the question: Would I be able to personally extract my 2013 MacBook's internal hard drive and somehow get that working, hook it up to my 2015 to save some of the many memories I had on the 2013? I've heard about repurposing old internal mac harddrives as new, wiped external ones, but would I be able to keep my old data intact after extracting the 2013 model's internal hard drive? Really don't wanna lose all the stuff on that old computer!

Thank you so much in advance for any help or advice.

Just making sure before buying the MBP 2019 model (2.3GHz 8-core i9 512 GB SSD) from amazon

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 12:35 AM PDT

I am planning to buy a 15" MBP 2019 from amazon but I have read some reviews that say it overheats just from playing Hearthstone. I recall that some of the 2018 MBP model were also having problems because they overheat. So I was wondering if anybody knows or can confirm if the latest model is indeed having thermal issues.
