I was wondering whether this is a good deal or I am better off buying the iPad 2018? From the photos the device looks nice and the seller claims that it was not used much...but words are wind. I have 40GB of music alone, and I take a LOT of videos/photos that I offload frequently, but I'm still needing more space. I am thinking of purchasing a 128GB iPhone SE just for music. It's super light, I love the screen size, and it would basically just need to be a small iPod essentially. iOS updated wouldn't be super important since it'd be basically a music player. What are your thoughts? Anyone have an iPhone SE that they use because of the small form factor? I think they go for about $180 on Amazon which is a pretty good price. [link] [comments]  |

Quite often, people want to get to the home screen of their iPhone before leaving, however, Apple seemingly gives the user no choice but to download and install the latest iOS software first - before backing up from iCloud or getting to the home screen in order to use the phone. This adds a slow 15-20 minutes to the process. Am I missing something? Is there any way to avoid this forced software update and put it off until later? [link] [comments]  |

I am however, running into doubts now. Even with what I consider light internet browsing(3-4 open tabs), my macbook is utilizing 13 GB of memory. I haven't even begin trying to stress test(For me, just doing my job) and I am now worried that 16 GB will not be enough. For more context, for work I am a systems engineer for a medical software company. My typical day consists of multiple teamviewer sessions open, 10-20 chrome tabs(the software we sell is web based), sublime text and / or excel open for modifying and importing data. Think 100,000-300,000 row sized documents. I also have slack, microsoft teams, and outlook open all day long. For personal use, I would be using this mainly for python / web development. Posted: 07 Jul 2019 07:29 PM PDT This is a solution post to help people who may come across this problem even after using something like app cleaner to delete simbla. Go to macintosh HD > Library > Application Support Then, delete the folder called SIMBL It may ask you for your computer's password to delete it. Simbla should be finally gone and away from your automation preferences and it'll never spam to ask you for stuff ever again. Tada! [link] [comments]  |

I opened the preferences in books but the "Sync collections, bookmarks and highlights across devices" option is darked out and I cant select it. I don't understand why. | Macbook Pro 2017 Time Machine stuck Posted: 07 Jul 2019 01:29 PM PDT My Mac (Macbook Pro 2017, MacOS Mojave) is failing to successful execute Time Machine. Time Machine has worked fine in the past, and I have five dates backed up on my hard disk, the last about 30 days ago. Today I connected my hard drive, opened System Preferences > Time Machine > and verified that it recognizes this hard drive as the hard drive designated for use with Time Machine. I went to my menu bar, clicked on the time machine icon, and Selected "Back Up Now." It got stuck on "Preparing Backup" for about an hour," so I did some troubleshooting. I did find a lot of recommendations out there for troubleshooting strategies … but I tried all of them and none has worked. I'm on about my tenth reboot and re-try, and it's still getting stuck in "Preparing Backup." Here's what I have tried:

| iMac Late 2009 21.5" - Just got it, having problems with crashes and restarts Posted: 07 Jul 2019 04:53 PM PDT So we got this sucker off of eBay with amazing reviews, but basically we were having problems with constant restarting until we plugged it directly into the wall (instead of into extension cords or power strips, we tried multiple ways but directly into the wall is the only way we've found that doesn't have random restarts) and we're going to get replacements for RAM (upgrading from 4GB to 12GB). Chrome crashed and this whole message popped up; this is not my strong suit so I was wondering what you can tell me about it and any tips! We were also thinking about buying a new video card, so any recommendations on that front would also be awesome. Thanks in advance! | iPhone XS Max Bootloop - Wife in Tears Over Baby Photos Posted: 07 Jul 2019 06:28 PM PDT TL;DR 5 month old XS Max broke. Apple Store says shrug. Need photos recovered. Edit: thanks for speedy replies. 3rd party recovery software on laptop while connected to iTunes didn't work. I'll debate paying the money or using my wife's time machine. XS Max under warranty bought new started boot looping (logo, black, logo, black, etc.) out of nowhere. The phone is 5 months old and the baby is 10 months, so you can see how my wife would be distraught over missing "first" videos. iCloud backup apparently ran out of space after a month with the phone. No water damage, not hot when we touched it. We were in vacation in Florida, so humidity? We tried iTunes update, but it fails because when the software update starts, shocker, the phone turns off and reboots again. I guess they've never heard of safe mode in Cupertino... Anyways, the apple store and other support was completely useless. I could rant for days about how a company can't stand behind it's $1k+ product and help it's customers at all with the thing most important to most users: data recovery. It's honestly pathetic that a company with cash reserves dwarfing most nations can't do it's own support and instead literally told us to go to drivesavers.com Rant, shitty tech practices, and business shadiness aside, is my only option to pay 500-2000$ for recovery? I saw iPadRehab has a reddit presence and the owner picked up when I called, but DriveSavers is the "certified" vendor...for double (or more) money. Are there any other reputable services to save money with? Has anyone tried iPadRehab and successfully still had Apple give them a replacement phone after the recovery was complete? | My ‘Hey Siri’ setup doesn’t work Posted: 07 Jul 2019 02:30 PM PDT Hi all, Ever since I got my iPhone 6s Siri never worked properly. I cannot setup my voice in Hey Siri because it doesn't pick up anything from the microphone. Also, when I activate Siri with the home button, it also doesn't pick up sound for about a second, then it works as intended. The microphone 100% works because I use it a lot. I've tried googling it but they only tell me to restart my phone, turn off/on Siri and things that obviously don't work. Has any of you got the same bug as me? | iPhone XS screen repair questions Posted: 07 Jul 2019 02:09 PM PDT Today I dropped my iPhone XS and shattered the front glass to pieces it's the first electronic I have ever damaged to the point of repair and as such I have a few questions about getting it repaired. First it should be noted I've only half way paid this devices 24 months off I had an Otterbox Commuter on it no screen protector it fell out of my hand slightly above my waist onto rough concrete face first it hit a rock sticking out of the ground and spider webbed the screen everything else on the outside appears fine not even any scuffs with this out of the way I do not have an Apple store available to me nearest one is about an 8ish hour drive I called all my local repair shops estimated price of fix about $300 and all of them where honest upon asking if it was OEM OLED screen answer no 3rd party from china so that leaves my last option Best Buy geek squad it's an authorized Apple retailer/repairer they will replace it with OEM OLED directly from Apple total cost $279 same day fix. So my first question anyone here have experience with Best Buy geek squad fixing there really expensive iPhone how was the service and did repairs come out looking like no damage had ever been done to the device basically I'm asking spend the $280 and let Best Buy replace it or bite the bullet and exchange it to Verizon and buy a whole new phone and start my 2 years of paying it off all over again.. It should also be noted I wasn't planning on upgrading this phone for another 3 years so a 4 year life span on this phone before a projected upgrade. Second question in the past my fathers iPhone 4, 5s, 6s, and even his recent X all have been dropped numerous times he has never had a screen crack and everything looked great on each of these devices until a few months later when something internally was damaged from the drop and finally gave out WiFi cellular antennas typically where the problem I think one just shut off and never came back on as well so what i'm asking is what is the chance of me wasting almost $300 on this screen repair just to have to replace the phone later anyways due to some internal damage from the impact of the drop I don't yet know about? | Trouble messaging to Android phone Posted: 07 Jul 2019 01:30 PM PDT After years of owning iPhones, my girlfriend has recently switched to an Android phone (a Pixel 3, because it's supposed to have a good camera). She still has a Mac. I know there will be struggles with the transition, and right now I'm trying to figure out how to send text messages to her phone. The problem is that my iPhone still "knows" it's her and sends blue messages she can see on her Mac, but not green texts she can get on her phone. I've deleted her from my Contacts and replaced her with two separate contacts, one with just the phone number and one with her email address etc, but I still can't get Messages to send a green message to her phone. I plugged it in and I got the red dot signaling it's charging but i tried holding down the power button for 10 seconds, didn't work. I tried pressing shift + control + option for 10 seconds and then the power button, didn't work. I tried pressing command + R for 10 seconds and then the power button, didn't work. I think the battery is non-removable but I see screws on the bottom of the MacBook. So now I have to wait until Wednesday to bring my Mac to the Apple store. Could it be it just died of old age? I've heard of older MacBooks still working though. I took great care of it, it isn't water damaged, and I really don't want to max out my credit on a new one if I can help it. I don't have AppleCare, as it expired in 2016. Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]  |

| Does this sound like the symptoms of a failing internal hard drive? Posted: 07 Jul 2019 07:46 AM PDT I am running a MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar Late 2016 2.7 GHz with High Sierra on it. Laptop will not get past boot up screen - the black screen with white Apple logo and status bar below it - and the progress bar will fill up 100% but then stop. So I started the usual check list for running startup key combos:
I have also reset the NVRAM multiple times, but that doesn't seem to help. It seems to me that hardware checks are saying the internal disk is fine, but it just can't mount it or access it. It's confusing, sometimes it can see the drive, other times it can't. There is no data on the laptop that I would like to keep, so I am fine with doing a fresh re-install of the OS, but I just can't get it to "see" the hard drive that I would like to install it on. This was all so sudden. I've never had any problems with the laptop until now. I've also never had a hard drive fail on me, but it seems like this might be the case. Has any one else had this problem, or any suggestions for me to try? [link] [comments]  |
