| Feature Requests for AirPlay, especially the combination Apple TV - HomePod Posted: 21 Jun 2019 03:11 PM PDT In iOS 13 you get the ability to move music from your iPhone to the Apple TV and HomePod and back to your iPhone. It's a great feature but there are still some features missing from AirPlay: Me and a lot of other people want to use a pair of HomePods as output from the Apple TV but right now it's not very fluid. Features that would make this combination better: - In Control Center the Airplay destinations should be rooms, not devices. - You should select which Apple TV and speakers should be used for video and which speakers should be used for audio. - When you have a HomePod in the same room as the Apple TV, you can control the Apple TV with handsfree Siri. Other AirPlay features: - When you have a HomeKit hub all your Airplay 2 speakers will get direct to device playback. This means that the AirPlay speakers are not anymore dependent on your iPhone, iPad or other Apple Device. - When you have an Apple TV connected to an Airplay 2 capable TV it will merge those devices to one. | Logitech Harmony + 10 Second Skip Posted: 21 Jun 2019 07:00 PM PDT Forgive me if this has already been posted, but I searched around and didn't find it. I saw there were a lot of folks having trouble with implementing the 10s skip feature from the newer Apple TVs on Harmony remotes. It's annoying as a workaround, but I had luck by using the Learn Remote feature from the Apple TV with an old shitty universal remote I had laying around and then using the old remote to teach the IR commands for the 10s skip forward and 10s skip backward features to my Harmony. | What’s the best place to subscribe to premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.)? Posted: 21 Jun 2019 05:50 AM PDT We have a few Apple TV's in our home and are rethinking where we subscribe to premium channels. I'm also considering "sharing" these premiums with a relative who has a Fire TV device. Ideally, we'd like just one singular billing process vs multiple. And being able to have the shows sync with and populate in the Apple TV app is important as is overall picture quality. In the past, we subscribed to premiums through PlayStation Vue. We had HBO + Cinemax for $19.99/month and Showtime for $8.99/month. But in order to get that pricing we had to subscribe and pay for PlayStation Plus which was kinda pointless because we don't have a Playstation console and there were no other benefits besides the discounted premium pricing. Without the discount, HBO + Cinemax is $21.99/month and Showtime is $10.99. Subscribing via Vue did, however, sync shows/movies with the TV App though the video quality was subpar. We could use the HBO Now and Showtime Anytime apps but there's no Cinemax app for Apple TV and Vue doesn't offer Starz. Apple channels, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video all have all of the premiums available to subscribe to but I'm finding there are pros and cons to each... Apple channels syncs with the TV app on all apple devices. In my research, the pic quality is supposedly great but you are locked into the Apple ecosystem if you subscribe this way which won't help my relative. Apple channels doesn't offer access to HBO Now/Go, Showtime Anytime or Starz. However, The TV app is supposed to launch on Fire TV devices later this year. I'm guessing family sharing will be an option on third party devices??? I see Hulu currently has a bundled promotion for Showtime and Starz for $14.99/month for 6 months, normally $19.98/month. They also supposedly have great picture quality and offer live streams of ALL the premium sub-channels (HBO Family, Showtime Extreme, Starz Comedy, etc.). Hulu has profiles so I could easily share with my relative and others if need be. And Hulu offers access to third party apps, Cinemax being the exception. The only downside I see is premium channel content allegedly DOES NOT sync with the Apple TV app from the Hulu app. Is that correct? Amazon Prime Video seems to be the best, though, the most expensive option (along with Apple). It syncs with the TV app, has great pic quality, allows access to 2/3 of the third party apps. There's no profiles though I don't think it matters since my relative could use the individual apps with our login info. Any other benefits to subscribing to premiums via Prime Video over the other options? Right now, we're leaning towards subscribing to all the premiums via Hulu but if the content doesn't actually sync with the TV app, that's a big negative. Anyone else have any info we should consider in making a decision? Would greatly appreciate it. [link] [comments]  | ||
