Apple TV is terrible with new tv app Posted: 26 Jun 2019 09:32 AM PDT The Apple TV app used to show basically all the "free" movies I had available to me through HBO, amazon prime, and Hulu. I out free in quotes because those are paid services. Netflix was never included because they didn't want to be. Fast forward to now and the tv app is always showing me iTunes movies that are paid. Trending used to be useful, now it's just garbage, I enjoy renting and buying movies as well, but this is ridiculous. How can we get this to work properly? Also &#$! u Apple. [link] [comments]
Cancelled MLB.tv subscription...got refund Posted: 26 Jun 2019 09:12 PM PDT It has been a complete shitshow. Almost a month of hide scores broken, linescore issues, now crashes. Doing the hokie-pokie (logging out everywhere then setting hide scores on the web then logging back in everywhere) did absolutely nothing. Several emails and at least 4 phone calls got me nowhere. So, tonight I bitched and complained at the poor rep long enough that they agreed to a full refund. Those developers should be fired. [link] [comments]
tvOS 13 and Xbox One Controller Posted: 27 Jun 2019 01:32 AM PDT I've been testing it and works like a charm but there is something that is driving me crazy. If I press the home button on the controller the Xbox starts and then I'm not able to pair it to the Apple TV. On top of that, if I shut off the Xbox, the TV shuts off and so my controller. So I have to disconnect the Xbox from the power and pair the controller to the Apple TV. Then, if I want to pair it again to the Xbox I have to plug to it when the cable. Can it be more cumbersome? There has to be an easier way! Please enlighten me. [link] [comments]
Computers App not showing cover flow above top row (AppleTV 3rd Gen)? Posted: 26 Jun 2019 08:17 PM PDT So *Forever* (Since ~2012) I've had my iTunes movie library on my computer able to stream to my 3rd ten Apple TV using the 'Computers' built-in app. What made this manageable was that once you went into the 'Computers' app 'Movies' library on the TV, then went back to the home screen, your most recently added 'Computer' movies would be above the top row of apps for you to select. After taking a few week break form my Apple TV, I discovered it updated to include the new 'Apple TV' app, but more importantly the 'Computers' app no longer displays in this 'cover flow' top section. The only apps that show content on the top half of the screen Apple's content apps (Apple TV, Movies, TV Shows, Music [and Settings is on the top row but doesn't show top content]). 'Computers' will not show anything on the top, meaning I have to scroll way way way down through ALL my movies inside the computers app to get through the movie I want alphabetically. I thought maybe moving the Computers app to the top row would solve this problem, but turns out apple's aforementioned apps are LOCKED to the top row of the home screen. You can't put 'Computers' up there. Any way to get the Computers app functionality back? TL;DR: Apple TV 3rd Gen updated June 2019, now 'Computers' App won't display 'Cover Flow' of recently added movies above top row. Help! [link] [comments]
Dolby Vision is reverting to SDR from iTunes but works for Netflix and Vudu. Posted: 26 Jun 2019 06:47 AM PDT When I try to play a movie I have from iTunes in 4k DV, it plays in 4k DV on the Vudu app, but not iTunes. Netflix plays 4k DV fine as well. An example is Mortal Engines. I did have Movies Anywhere, but I turned it off for troubleshooting. And still thought it should be 4k on iTunes and 1080p on Vudu since I bought Mortal Engines on iTunes, but it's the reverse. Any ideas? I've had match content on and off for both settings, and have a gigabit wired connection that the AppleTV always gets at least 500-700mbps down on SpeedTests, and my wired PC gets 100 megaBYTES per second from GoogleDrive/OneDrive so I don't think it's my connection, nor a lying speedtest. Edit: I've also had the AppleTV "check the cable" and it seems fine. Tried plugged right into my TV instead of my 4k/DV compatible receiver and still get the same problem. Edit edit: Forgot to mention that it used to work just fine. So while I guess it could be the cables, I'm unsure they'd "go bad" while Vudu can show 4k DV on the same cable from the same ATV4k. I'll be looking at the QuickStart settings to see if it's a buffering thing, and will post tomorrow. If it's "quickstart" Apple should 100% have asked first, but also should start all DV content in DV because it'll be more jarring if I'm 10-20 seconds in and it then switches to DV and my TV has to re-handshake. Apple TV 4/4K for a PC and Android user Posted: 26 Jun 2019 05:51 PM PDT It would be my only Apple device. Recently I've switched from Spotify to Apple Music & iTunes and the movie rental prices are interesting too. I Also really like the Tv OS "feel". Would it be worth getting the Apple TV 4/4K as a simple streaming box, without the Apple ecosystem? [link] [comments]
Our Planet Netflix no Dolby Digital Posted: 26 Jun 2019 12:26 PM PDT I'm watching Our Planet on Netflix on my ATV4K but DD is not activating, my amp is showing PLII instead. If I put on Spider-Man Homecoming (also on Netflix) it switches to Dolby Digital. Any idea? Our Planet is listed as having Dolby Digital. [link] [comments]
Tv app not showing Next or Recently watched. Posted: 26 Jun 2019 03:04 PM PDT So i update my atv to the latest firmware and now my next list or recently watched list won't appear anymore. Funny thing is that on the iphone everything looks fine, both lists are shown. Has anyone else encountered this error? Or may it be some misconfiguration on my device? Really annoyed by that! How to use Home Sharing in tvOS13 and MacOS Catalina Posted: 26 Jun 2019 08:55 AM PDT Hey all, I posted this over in r/tvOSBeta but thought it might be useful here too, especially now that the public betas are available. With the dissolution of iTunes in MacOS Catalina, going to the 'Computers' app on Apple TV shows no eligible libraries, and makes reference to iTunes (R.I.P.). As it turns out, if your Mac has been updated to MacOS Catalina, you need to go to System Preferences>Sharing>Media Sharing and reenable Media Sharing/Home Sharing for your libraries to show up on your Apple TV. Why this status enablement didn't carry over from Macs that previously had Home Sharing enabled I do not know, but hopefully it can save you all from having to AirPlay everything like I've been doing for the last three weeks. Posted: 26 Jun 2019 02:29 PM PDT My mother is approaching 70 this year and I'm looking for a digital TV box for her to access mostly Netflix, Plex and perhaps a local news streaming app or two. She is about average when it comes to figuring out new technology, for someone her age, but she is getting older and things are getting less easy for her. She has seen my Apple TV gen. 4 at my house and my kids have shown her how it works. I think she could make it work but she has problems with the touch-pad on the remote. Swiping up/down and left/right is clumsy and the remote often misinterprets what direction you intend. I'm sure we've all experienced that at some point and had to pay a little extra attention to using the touch-pad at first. But I'm worried she may just give up on it. Are there any third-party physical remotes out there for the apple TV with buttons instead of track-pads? I know there are apps, she does have an iPhone, but these are less user friendly for a senior. I need to convince her to ditch her VCR which has nothing but physical buttons. I love how the simplicity of an apple TV would otherwise be the best for her, but are there competitors out there that might work better for her? Thanks! [link] [comments]

OneCast app (Xbox streaming) on Apple TV? Posted: 26 Jun 2019 09:19 AM PDT Anyone know why OneCast — the amazing Xbox streaming app for Mac, iOS, and now Android — has never made its way to the Apple TV/TVos? Seems like an easy and super valuable "port" to make and would be killer, esp up against things like SteamLink. There's barely any contact info for the dev because I've tried asking directly. Hoping this thread can stir up some interest, overall — have searched high and low and didn't even see any single person thinking about this. [link] [comments]
Spotify streaming on Apple TV 4k Posted: 26 Jun 2019 10:56 AM PDT This comment says that when they tried streaming Spotify to Apple TV 4K, they needed to keep the TV powered on. Not sure if its due to some other thing in his/her setup. Is this a feature/limitation of ATV 4K ? - that I need to keep the TV powered on to stream spotify. [link] [comments]
