[REQ] Help me find a Mac-compatible wireless mouse??

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 08:09 PM PDT

    Hi!

Newish Macbook Pro owner here. Currently on an expedition to find a suitable Mac-compatible mouse for daily use. Most sellers only state that their mice are compatible with Windows.. I'm open to single-button or dual-button capable mice, as long as they work on Macs!

Also, I am aware of the Magic Mouse 2, but it is not ergonomic enough for me.

Please help me find something, within these specifications:

    • Ergonomic (for wrist relief)
    • Wireless Optical/Laser preferred
    • USB-C preferred, but open to USB mice.
    • Under $25 USD (not including shipping)
    • Sold on Amazon, eBay or AliExpress

Links and detailed comments or suggestions appreciated. I will give you karma :)

    Cheers!

    Edit: removed price constraint.

    Macbook case

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 11:45 PM PDT

Hey guys, I've bought a case for my macbook air 2018 and I'm contemplating whether to put it on or not. At first i got it because i wanted protection against dents or scratches, but upon reading posts I've seen that others advised not to use them. The case i got is hardshell plastic that's thin with vent openings. It's seems really light too. what's your advise on it?

    Apple converted me today

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 01:26 AM PDT

I only recently started using a Mac due to an assignment for university that required me to develop an app for IOS and I really didn't want to have to continuously go into campus to work on it. I was really hesitant to fork out for the full price so I ended up getting a second hand MacBook Pro (2016 with two thunderbolt ports) for about $1000 (AUD) cheaper than the store price. It had quite a few dents and scratches on the shell but other than that was in great working condition.

However, after about a week I started to feel like I had made a huge mistake. The butterfly keyboard was just atrocious. My touch typing accuracy fell dramatically and to top it off everyone once in a while a key would either get stuck and lose its "click" or it would double or triple stroke, especially on the numeric keys. I also noticed my fingerprints would transfer from the keyboard to the screen every time I closed the lid, so I would have to keep a microfibre cloth over the keyboard whenever I wasn't using it. To top it all off there were also small scratch marks covering the screen that were caused by the keyboard!

Once I had finished my assignment, I was thinking about reselling the laptop but I decided to go into an Apple store and bring it up with one of the staff members. He agreed that it was definitely a design flaw and offered to take it off me and replace the keyboard and put a new screen in free of charge. I was actually surprised by this as I was mentally ready for them to tell me there was nothing they could do.

When I got my MacBook today I was pleasantly surprised. The screen was brand new and scratch free, the keyboard was replaced with some newer version that has at least double the travel, actually feels like a real keyboard again, and to top it all off, they completely replaced the outer shell with a brand new one.

Apple really changed my view on their company today. I used to be a hater but now my I have a lot of trust in their service. I will definitely be considering their products when it comes to future purchases. If you have any of the same problems with your MacBook as I've described above, I would definitely recommend taking it in and seeing if they can fix it for out.

TLDR: Apple replaced my shitty butterfly keyboard (with keys that were always playing up and scratching my screen) and the screen itself for free just by taking it in and talking to them about the flaws. Would recommend you do the same if you have a similar model to mine.

    MacBook Pro 2017 return key

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 04:41 PM PDT

    Hi!

So I just got a new MacBook Pro 2017 13". I bought it from a retail store here in the Netherlands

Today the return key decided to get stuck. The machine isn't even a week old at this point.

The retail store has this shit policy that if you opened the package, you can't return or exchange it for a new one.

Will Apple replace my MacBook? I can't wait for a repair since I'm going on a holiday next Monday. So it has to be replaced quickly.

Does anyone know if they replace the entire MacBook, since its not even a week old?

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT : It seems a piece of the butterfly mechanism is broken off. The tiny little pointy thing, not sure how to call it. Do they replace this also?

    RAM 16 or 32?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 09:15 AM PDT

I am thinking of switching from Windows to a Mac. I have a laptop with a 32 GB of ram and I am surprised there isn't much of a difference compared to my old 16 GB version. I thought jumping to 32 GB on a Windows 10 laptop would be amazing. I have an old MBP with 8 GB of ram. When I run a VM, I can tell the VM could benefit from more ram, but it is not bad. Unfortunately a 32 GB MBP 15" is fairly expensive! I am wondering if 16 GB would be enough.

    Thanks!

    Locked macOS Install Data

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 10:26 AM PDT

Hi all. I'm on a 2017 Macbook Pro on Mojave 10.14.5.

I've got the above folder in my Trash. It appeared in the Trash after the Mojave update I got at the beginning of the year.

The folders/files inside the macOS Install Data folder are locked and I can't delete them from my Trash and i also can't restore them. Does anyone have any advice on what to do about them?

    2018 MacBook Air vs. Pro

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 06:39 AM PDT

I am in the market for a new laptop. Trying to decide between the 2018 Air and the Pro. My budget is $1800. I'd like 16GB of RAM. Don't really care about storage 256GB would be fine. I'll probably go with Apple Refurb to maximize value. I'll be using it for web development. Minimal graphics processing, mostly coding/testing.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about keyboards and track pads. Anyone have strong opinions one way or the other?

    VMWare vs. Parallels

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 09:51 AM PDT

I generally use VMWare, but wondered if anyone has used Parallels lately? Is VMWare Fusion still the defacto for performance and reliability.
