He gave me his old iphone that he no longer uses and I got home and put it to charge. I opened it up to the activation lock screen and am not sure on what to do. There are a few sites that say they can unlock it with the imei but I don't know how to get that. Usually you click on the little button at the bottom right on the activation lock screen but it only shows the meid. Do you guys have any suggestions? | Advice - iPhone XS Max freezing problem - Apple Store won't replace device Posted: 28 Jun 2019 09:47 PM PDT I have an unlocked 256GB XS Max which suffers from intermittent freezing. I have AppleCare+. My problem is that phone locks up and becomes completely unresponsive to touch for a random, but prolonged period of time. I am unable to hard reboot the phone when this happens — I simply have to wait it out. Sometimes it's 10 minutes. Sometimes 40 minutes. It's really frustrating and interferes with my work. To be fair, this used to happen far more often with the earlier iOS 12 versions, but now it's happened twice on the latest 12.3.1. I had taken it to the Apple Store three months ago with extended video evidence and the Genius said he couldn't do anything about it because: Well, I took it back to the Apple Store today after doing a full iTunes restore and update to iOS 12.3.1 (with new footage) and the Genius says he can't do anything because: Basically he said that it's a software problem and that it will go away if I reset it after going into DFU mode. But I would rather not do a new setup (or iCloud recovery) because I'll lose all my Health data, among other things. Here's the kicker: He says that even if it happens again after full reset, they'll have to send it into Depot service — and Apple might not approve a replacement if they can't reproduce the issue. The Genius was a nice guy, so it's not like he's trying to BS me. But does anyone have any insight into this? I once had an iPhone 5S that Apple replaced on-the-spot for a slightly wobbly Touch ID sensor. Why on earth have they made it so difficult to get a device replacement? It's a $1200 phone covered under AppleCare+, and I've given them camera footage which they've documented. Do I have a legitimate complaint here? If so, how would I go about getting a resolution? A few months ago, I spilled a drink on my keyboard and Apple reported the damage to be about $2,000 to fix. I've experienced no problems with my device thus far, except a sticky keyboard. I love this Macbook to bits and pieces and want to have it last as long as possible. I heard really great things about the Rossmann Repair service in NY and was wondering if it was worth it to ship my machine over to them for help (as I'm on the other side of the country). Is my MacBook Pro eligible for that keyboard replacement program to fix the keyboard, or because my issue is minor my Macbook won't be considered under the program? The affected keys are Z, Command Key, and S Current this isn't too much of a problem because I rarely use most of those keys and they still seem to function normally and do not repeat letters randomly when hit. | Kernel_task using "450%" CPU or more when streaming video? [MBPr 15" 2015, macOS 10.14.5 Mojave] Posted: 28 Jun 2019 07:58 PM PDT This started a couple of days ago. Any time I am watching streaming video (FaceTime, Youtube, Netflix, Twitch.tv, etc), my CPU usage for the process "Kernel_task" will jump up to a ridiculous percentage number (usually above 300%) and video quality will degrade significantly or even freeze altogether. Things I have already tried: Different browsers to stream video: Chrome, Opera, Safari, Firefox, Brave, even Tor all cause this issue. Some sooner then others though. Chrome usually takes 1-3 minutes, Firefox usually gives me 30-45 minutes before this happens. This includes running all browsers in incognito mode when available. Creating a new user account: Exact same issue. Few minutes then Kernel_task skyrockets up to 400% or more. Keeping all other programs closed while streaming video: This does not seem to have any effect. Clearing all Kexts related to Browsers, Facetime or streaming video: No change Downloading videos and playing them locally through IINA or Quicktime: This works fine. For recorded content like youtube, this has been my workaround. Some other notable side effects: When on Facetime, I constantly have to restart the program because my camera feed will freeze. Usually after restarting "avconfrenced" in Activity monitor it comes back. Initially, only restarting would cause the CPU usage of Kernel_task to go down. Now, if left with all closed but Activity monitor and Finder, the CPU usage will eventually drop back to normal. Usually as fast as it climbed. (1-3 Minutes after closing chrome, 30ish minutes after closing firefox) Any advice or suggestions on where to look would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I need to provide more information. I am using Mojave 10.14.5, and I don't know if it's because of the update that's causing this problem. I've contacted Apple, but they have not been too helpful in resolving this issue. | Posted: 28 Jun 2019 06:47 PM PDT i saw this post and its exactly the same problem, with pictures. so when i was setting up the iphone, my Itunes in Mac automatically put my name in as the phone "[my name]'s iphone" when i selected "set up as new device". then i put my friends icloud and apple ID and such when setting up and we got his icloud backups, photos and all. the iphone name is his name in the setting, icloud is his, app store is his, iTunes is his BUT in his icloud in setting, it listed my iPhone as one of the devices for some reason? like he's icloud was connected to my iphone? anyways, i removed my iphone from his icloud but the safari still shows with my name. I recently got hired with a school board, and just got my email(s) (for some reason there's two emails but they're linked together somehow? idk it's confusing). I was able to download outlook through the mail client itself and now my outlook (which I've had on my computer for years and never worked) now works wonderfully (Mac late 2016)! I downloaded the outlook app for my iPhone, and it works amazingly but when I add my work email to it, while it adds fine, no emails show up (but I can send emails through it). The app says every time I open it to my work email "(my email) has been blocked on this device by your administrator" -- but then why does it work perfectly on my computer? What's the difference? I also added it to my gmail app and while I DO get the emails through it, I don't get notifications (and have to refresh manually), which is kind of annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? How to fix it? I did reach out to the IT helpdesk and they said to just load it through the website and it doesn't work on anything else. I just want an easier/more convenient way to get emails since I'm not on my computer all the time and don't want to miss something important. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! [link] [comments]  |

My MacBook Pro is company issued and I can't change my default user shell (currently /bin/bash) because it will be overwritten by company policy. Looking in Terminal.app -> Settings -> General I see an option called "Shells open with:". I changed this to /usr/local/bin/bash (also defined in /etc/shells) and doesn't work. It still uses /bin/bash. If I change it to /bin/zsh, it does work. I've tried a reboot, etc. but it's still not picking it up. Thoughts/ideas? My storage is full and I want to move my files to the cloud. I have a lot of go pro videos and what not. I pay for 50gb of I cloud space and have 35gb free. When looking at the help online most say that when I go to my iCloud and click the iCloud drive options I should just be able to click and downloads and documents box. | Posted: 28 Jun 2019 02:13 PM PDT So it has been four months since I bought my iPhone XS Max and its battery health has been at 100% until yesterday when I woke up to check my phone's health after charging and was surprised to see it 98% ! I bought my smart battery case a month ago and since then I have been playing Asphalt 9, PUBG and Fortnite regularly while my phone runs on the case 's battery. Once the case ran out of battery, I would recharge the case fully and then use it again for playing games, while keeping my phone's battery intact at 100%. I never played games on my phone's battery since I bought and the battery had been at 100% until I started using the case. I never saw my battery health at 99%, it was 100 at all times until yesterday morning. I then took my phone to an Apple authorized service center that evening to diagnose the issue. The person who did that said that the degradation happened due to your regular use of the case battery for playing games. I went to another guy and he said that the case does not affect the phone's battery negatively and its degradation rate at all.
