Posted: 24 Apr 2019 09:41 AM PDT I was working with an Excel file yesterday and accidentally double-clicked while the mouse pointer was over the resize handle on the right side of the window. To my surprise, that edge of the window expanded to the edge of the display it was on. This also works on corner resizing; both edges that meet at the corner will expand to their respective boundaries. I did some Googling and saw that this feature was added in Sierra, but it was new to me so I thought I'd share. [link] [comments]
Is there any way to mount a USB or Firewire hard drive as readonly? Posted: 24 Apr 2019 09:35 PM PDT This is something I would like to do at times to prevent writes to a particular drive, kind of like floppy disks back in the day had write protect tabs. [link] [comments]

Bluetooth headphones are connected but not appearing in sound output options Posted: 25 Apr 2019 12:15 AM PDT Running High Sierra on a Mini. The problem occurs consistently with multiple brands of Bluetooth headphones. The headphones will show as being connected under the Bluetooth settings, but do not always appear under the "select a device for sound output" options, and, for clarification, there is no sound from them when this is the case. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Apr 2019 06:54 AM PDT I usually lock my machine with Ctrl+Shift+Eject. As the title says, when I get a notification, my displays light up, my machine (late 2016 mbp) automatically starts searching for my watch to do an unlock and if I'm anywhere in my house, it typically succeeds. Am I doing something wrong? I can't figure out why my computer attempts to unlock at all without any user input, and also why my computer will unlock when my watch is 20 feet away through walls, whereas my wife's Air won't unlock if her watch is more than 3 feet away. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Pages Preinstalled Template Location? Posted: 24 Apr 2019 07:04 PM PDT So, way back in the day I made a custom template for note-taking and rather than putting it in the My Templates section, I put it in the com.apple.iWork folder (back when the folder still existed). Nowadays Apple has moved where those templates are stored, and I want to get rid of that template. Does anyone know how to find where Pages stores the pre-installed templates so I can get rid of it? Can't hear audio coming from iPad USB Posted: 24 Apr 2019 10:14 AM PDT Hi guys. I have my iPad connected through USB, enabled from MIDI setup. I use it with Ableton Live frequently, and everything works fine. Now I want to use my iPad to play music or watch videos through the speakers connected to my Mac. I see audio coming in on Audio Settings, but can't monitor it. I can see audio coming in from iPad and also from aggregated device. I've tried changing the output device to my USB interface, aggregate device, internal speakers, headphones, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Photo (sizing) - Storage vs. Photos app Posted: 24 Apr 2019 07:23 AM PDT Hoping someone can quickly help reconcile an issue. On my MacBook, when I click the "Apple" icon on the top left > Then go to "about this Mac" > then "Storage", it shows that my "Photos" takes up ~101GB. The only photos and videos on there are from my iCloud account which are also on my phone (more on that at the bottom). Where it gets weird is that if I go to the actual "Photos" app ON MY MACBOOK (rather than "Apple Icon" > "About this Mac" > "Storage" as just noted above) and click on the little "i" icon on the top right, it calculates the photo/video size and only comes out to ~77GB. That's a ~24GB difference. I have a call into Apple Support where they had me do some spotlight reformatting (?? Can't remember exactly what it was recalled) and they also had me reinstall the operating system. Neither of them worked. They are escalating this to their 'photos department' but I will probably not hear back from them until tomorrow evening. Has anyone else had this issue? Is the size discrepancy normal? My wife has the same issue on her side of the MacBook as well? ~136GB on "Apple Icon" > "About this Mac" > "Storage" and only ~104GB when clicking the "i" icon in the MacBook Photos app. Note: just because it's interesting... On my phone, it says that those same photos and videos (the exact same # of photos / videos) take up ~93GB. which is different from when doing Both "Apple Icon" > "About this Mac" > "Storage" (~101GB) and when clicking the "i" icon in the MacBook Photos app (~77GB). Any ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Missing text background color icon in the formatting bar Posted: 24 Apr 2019 10:50 AM PDT Hello, I'm using a 2013 mac book air and the text background color icon that was in the formatting bar when creating / responding to an email has gone missing. Does anyone know how to get this back? Sorry in advance, if this isn't the correct subreddit to post to on this [link] [comments]
Bluetooth speaker disconnects from MacBook upon being inactive for few minutes. Posted: 24 Apr 2019 07:02 AM PDT Any way to stop this ? The only way to get it to reconnect is to restart the Bluetooth speakers. If it helps, it's an Anker soundcore mini and early 2015 MacBook Pro 13". [link] [comments]
Question about dual booting Windows Posted: 24 Apr 2019 10:42 AM PDT Hi, I have windows 10 dual booted on my 2015 Macbook Pro. Windows is running off of an external HDD and I was just wondering if this is safe? I know it's not the fastest in terms of performance, but is the data on my Mac's internal SSD safe? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
Looking for easy ways to upgrade my 2017 27” iMac. Looking for advice! Posted: 24 Apr 2019 06:45 AM PDT My iMac currently has the following specs: 16 gb of ram (4- 4gb chips) 3.4 ghz i5 1 tb fusion drive My idea is the following: 1) I could replace 2 of the 4 gb ram chips with 8 gb chips for 24 gb of ram. Is it okay they don't match? And 2) I'm also considering getting an external ssd and moving my OS to that. Will that be quicker than the internal fusion? Also, will I see a benefit of using a thunderbolt 3 over a usb 3 external ssd? [link] [comments]
Node crashing often on my MacBook, but I don't know what is using node Posted: 24 Apr 2019 06:34 AM PDT How do I troubleshoot this? The crashed process pop-up appears every now and then. It looks like it's a process that immediately crashes, so doesn't appear in the process list. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Apr 2019 04:43 AM PDT So,the reason I ask this is because ASUS is having a End of tax season sale and I thought of snagging a laptop and dual booting windows 10 for gaming, and Mac Os for everything else. Should I? [link] [comments] |
