These usually happen while I am watching youtube while simultaneously browsing reddit. I'm not sure whether this is an Apple, Reddit, or Youtube problem. | Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:26 PM PDT Hi all, Yesterday my water bottle leaked entirely into my bag. My retina macbook 2015 13" was in its case (not waterproof). Water seeped through the case and when I removed it it was slightly damp, not soaking The laptop was closed and had a tight adhesive keyboard protector on. I noticed small bits of water coming from the back somewhere and a drop coming from the keyboard. I instantly turned it off and have left it for the last 24 hours to dry upside down. What do you guys suggest? My priority is the data since its exam season. Im not too tech hardware savvy and dont really have the ability nor equipment to open it up myself. Any advice appreciated! | Lines, flashing, freezing... my MacBook Pro display went haywire today while I was watching Twitch Posted: 30 Apr 2019 06:37 PM PDT I was watching a Twitter stream in full screen when I noticed that my cursor was on the play controls. As a result, the stream player HUD was covering some of the stuff on screen so I moved the cursor to the middle of the screen, where it'd let the player disappear and leave my view of the video unobstructed. So far, so good. Incredibly mundane experience. As the player controls faded away, the stream started flickering a little. When I moved the cursor a little bit, the player controls reappeared but the flickering stopped... until the player faded again. I moved my cursor a little again, player controls appeared, and the flickering stopped once more. Then the player faded once more.... The flickering reached a new level. Vertical and horizontal lines flashed across the screen while I moved around my trackpad in vain to regain a shred of normalcy. Within seconds, even the video playing in the background and all trackpad input came to a halt while the flickering turned into a frozen screen, leading to the situation you can see here. I held down the power button to turn off my computer since any all input from the trackpad or the keyboard was rendered ineffective. Upon restarting it, I ran Apple's hardware diagnostic just to receive a bill of clean health. So I rebooted back into OS X. Went back to enjoy my Twitch stream. And then, the exact same thing happened. I'm watching YouTube now and everything is OK so it might be Twitch thing but it's never happened before and I find it hard to believe that the website did that to my whole laptop. Any ideas what may be up? Edit: When everything freezes, my Force Touch trackpad freezes up so this feels like a system issue. Edit 2: I have a base model 13" MacBook Pro from early 2015. | issues after repair, not sure what to do Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:17 PM PDT I have a late 2016 15" mbp that developed the well known keyboard issues (keys double pressing, spacebar not working, etc). Apple replaced my top case for free under the extended keyboard warranty program a month or two ago, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, when I got the laptop back, though the keyboard is fixed, immediately realized the speaker quality was WAY down from pre-repair. I've noticed occasional crackling when I play some movies and stuff, though I stupidly didn't mark down specific movies/times for further reference, and just in general the sound quality is dramatically lower for music, podcasts, everything. I'm not really sure how I can get help for this, I called up apple to explain and the woman on the phone mostly sounded confused. She ran me through a few basic troubleshooting steps ("reboot in safe mode and play me youtube over the phone" etc), but then basically said "well I don't really know what's going on but we can set an appointment to bring it into a store for them to look at it." My concern is that I feel like if I bring it into an apple store saying "the sound quality is way worse and it is crackling/popping occasionally," there's no way they'll take me seriously, since they don't have the reference point of "what it sounded like pre-top case replacement." Anyone have any ideas for how I can approach this? It's is extremely clear to me that there's an issue, since the top end of music sounds so bad compared to how it did pre-repair, but I can see how apple support (or anyone) would be skeptical without a specifically "broken" part. Assuming the speakers are just messed up/partially blown, I'd ideally like a fresh top case put on, but I don't really know what to do to minimize getting blown off. [link] [comments]  |
| Filevault failed and broke my MacBook air. Posted: 30 Apr 2019 08:41 PM PDT i have recently update my system with high sierra, i enabled filevault and when it started the encryption process i left the macbook, as it stated it will "take more than a day" after a few hours i returned and found a flashing folder with a question mark on the screen. After switching the macbook off and back on again, i hear the startup chime but the screen stays black, no curser, nothing, just a blank black screen. I left it powered on, an hour later the flashing folder with a question mark appeared again. I then reset the nvram with no results, i tried to go into recovery mode but nothing happens, just a black screen. I tried going into recovery mode again by pressing option+r on startup and just left the macbook on, after about an hour the globe appeared, i connected to the internet and got into recovery mode. When i checked disk utilities the main hard disk was not in the list, nor when selecting to reinstall os, only a recovery partition that was less than 1gig size. I have also tried to reset the smc but nothing happened so i have no idea if it did anything I have a macbook air early 2015 I copied that from an apple discussion forum with no answers. I ordered a Samsung 970 Evo plus 250gb and adapter and installed it but disc utilities still can't find it. Any ideas? [link] [comments]  |

It's processor is 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB memory and 500 GB storage. However I need a new laptop as this one is getting really old, slow, and the battery is dying. Also this laptop is 7 years old and can't handle the things I need it to do. For the most part I use the web, answer emails, use Microsoft office programs (my laptop had difficulty opening them). But I also edit photos and use graphic design programs. I also want something that can handle some video editing in the future. Apple laptops are getting faster and have a lot of different types. Can you please help me figure out which laptop is best for me? Are the new MacBook Airs capable of video editing? Will a dual core laptop do the job? However the removable battery indicates the lowest charge level. Now it's possible to turn on the mac only if battery is removed, power button is pressed and holded for 10 seconds, then plug in the charger and wait for another 10 seconds. | Searching for Macbook Pro (2018) dock. Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:50 PM PDT I am a new hire at my place of work, and I was issued a MacBook Pro and an OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock. The dock is great, but only provided 60W of power, my MacBook needs 87W. My MacBook does not charge fast enough to keep the battery full, it's just draining slowly. Any recommendations for a new dock that provides enough power to charge my MacBook? It just needs to support video out for 2 monitors and USB for mouse and keyboard. Thanks! [link] [comments]  |

| [Question] Is your Macbook Pro 2018 supposed to be warm when monitor is down? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 05:36 AM PDT I've had an issue with my MBP 2018 few months ago where I would make it go sleep (whether through monitor down or pressing Apple logo and pressing Sleep), and all it did was force the brightness slider down. I can see the slider going down on my touchbar, and when i bring it back up, it went down automatically again. This would happen until I restart the computer. I reset the SMC and that was fixed, but I feel like ever since then, putting my MBP to sleep constantly keeps it warm. Shouldn't going to sleep make the MBP not run anything in the background? Under Energy Saver in Settings, I have "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" disabled, "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" enabled, "Wake for Wi-Fi network access" enabled, and "Enable Power nape while plugged into a power adapter" disabled. I am concerned that having it warm (not hot) constantly will damage something... is this normal for MBP to be warm when put to sleep? [link] [comments]  |
