| Rant: Forgotten Apple ID Passwords and an inability to reset. Posted: 30 Apr 2019 02:17 PM PDT Mods can delete if wrong place for this. The number of issues I see on this sub and others where people have no idea what their Apple ID password is and cannot reset it for whatever reason is absurd and implies there is a large subset of the population that is not intelligent enough to own an iPhone. I understand that sometimes passwords are forgotten and that's just part of life in 2019 where there are passwords for everything and they all have different requirements. But if you can't reset your password because you forgot the answers to your security questions, and you changed your phone number while two-factor authentication was active but never updated your number in TFA, and you no longer use the email address that is your Apple ID and can't get a reset link sent to you, then you truly have no business owning an iOS device. People need to start taking some responsibility for the care and security of the devices and data they claim are important to them. This isn't year one of iPhone, it's year twelve. My girlfriend's ex sent a screenshot of our chat history to her. It is a photo that i sent her about a week ago. In the screenshot, a foreign number (not my country code) sent our chat history to her ex. How did he do that? And how do I stop him? This is the screenshot of her chat with his ex : Girlfriend's chat with her ex boyfriend Screenshot in the previous photo : Screenshot by her ex boyfriend that was sent to her So to clarify this again, my girlfriend's ex is monitoring her whatsapp message remotely. He can see whatever i send to my gf, and whatever she sent me. The guy received a message from a weird phone number showing our chat history as in the photo. I've been googling and no specific answer was found. How he did it? How do i stop him? Girlfriend's phone : iPhone 6 with iOS version 12.2 Thank you for your time. | I bought a used early 2008 iMac, and I think I broke it in less than an hour Posted: 30 Apr 2019 07:55 PM PDT I recently bought a used iMac and was following a video on what to do security wise with a used computer. I followed the instructions and was resetting to factory default and then going to download a fresh copy of the OS (Yosemite is the one that it says) . It asks for my apple ID to install and after entering my password it says the item is temporarily unavailable. I tried some things I found on the internet like logging into icloud, but that didn't work, and because the person I bought it from was not the original owner, I don't have the original apple ID. Now when I try to turn the computer on not in recovery mode, I just get the grey screen with a cancel sign. I don't know what to do other than abandon ship (I barely paid anything for the computer) but it's pretty frustrating! Any help would be greatly appreciated. if it's any help, my roommate has a mac I could use if I need to, but everything I saw looked like I had to have some kind of installer downloaded on the imac, and I'm just real confused :-) I'm also using a logitech keyboard which made apple instructions even more frustrating. edit: when I bought it, it had el capitan on it, and now it's trying to restore to yosemite, but honestly, I just want it to not be grey and sad, I just thought I should restore it because it was sold to me with microsoft office installed, and I didn't feel comfortable knowing things had been installed on it before it was sold to me [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 30 Apr 2019 06:15 PM PDT I've tried a few different dongles with usb c power built in They all work when I plug the cable from the brick into the dongle, and then the dongle into the computer. But if I plug the dongle directly into the power brick and the long cable into the dongle it's no dice That's the ideal scenario, I pick up my computer a lot or work with it in my lap so having a dongle come with it isn't ideal. In a perfect world the dongle would sit on my desk attached to the monitor, usb accessories, and power, while the longer cable would power my laptop. Has anyone found a more elegant solution to this? I ran Angry IP Scanner and discovered that 2 of the macbooks in our house (mine and my mom's) are pinging very high latency to the router (700 ish). | Posted: 30 Apr 2019 04:40 PM PDT Hey everyone! So for a long time I had my laptop disconnected from iMessage just for distraction purposes. The other day I finally updated to the newest OS (Mojave, I believe?). After the updated, it defaulted back to having iMessage connected through my Apple ID and thought, why not. However, when I used to have it connected, with every text I would get a notification on the laptop AND on the phone. Now, when using my laptop, I only receive the notification on the laptop but not on my phone/watch. The notification is there on the lock screen, but no text tone or vibration or anything. I'd really like to return to having it notify me on both like it used to, but couldn't find the answers by Google. Figured Reddit would be the next place to check! | iOS Mail settings keep removing image in signature. Posted: 30 Apr 2019 02:17 PM PDT My iPhone keeps replacing my images in my signature with a "null" object. I can paste my signature in, shake to undo the auto-styling, and it'll look fine for about five minutes. After that, the text will remain but the image will be gone. Is there a method to make the signature actually take? Or is this a known bug? I have an iPhone 7+ with the most up to date iOS version. [link] [comments]  |

But every time I text someone on the XS, they say the texts are sending from my iCloud email instead of my phone number and I don't know how to change it back. When I looked it up, instructions told me to go to preferences, to the privacy tab, and click to "always allow" cookies, but there was nothing that says that, at least with my version of Safari. | 2012 MacBook Air 11” won’t properly adjust to ultra wide monitor Posted: 30 Apr 2019 05:26 PM PDT I'm trying adjust the aspect ratio of the image on my LG 29UM57, 2560x1080 or 21:9, and won't adjust to the size. I've used SwitchResX to make a custom and followed all of the steps to get custom resolutions working. The image on my MacBook has the right aspect ratio for the monitor, but the actual monitor is the same ratio stretched into 16:9 aspect ratio, as seen here. | Advice on broken wire in Macbook charger Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:39 PM PDT Hi everyone I've had my charger for about 4 years now and it's been going pretty well until I pulled it out of my bag earlier. It's a Apple 85W MagSafe 2 charger. The wire seems to be intact (no fraying), but the rubber surrounding it tore a bit so I can see a bit of the wire underneath. The entire broken area is only takes up about less than 1cm of cable and is 3cm away from the charging bit that connects to the Macbook. | speaker issues after top case replacement, not sure what to do Posted: 30 Apr 2019 04:04 PM PDT Hey all. I have a late 2016 15" mbp that developed the well known keyboard issues (keys double pressing, spacebar not working, etc). Apple replaced my top case for free under the extended keyboard warranty program a month or two ago, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, when I got the laptop back, though the keyboard is fixed, I immediately realized the speaker quality was WAY down from pre-repair. I've noticed occasional crackling when I play some movies and stuff, though I stupidly didn't mark down specific movies/times for further reference, and just in general the sound quality is dramatically lower for music, podcasts, everything. I'm not really sure how I can get help for this, I called up apple to explain and the woman on the phone mostly sounded confused. She ran me through a few basic troubleshooting steps ("reboot in safe mode and play me youtube over the phone" etc), but then basically said "well I don't really know what's going on but we can set an appointment to bring it into a store for them to look at it." My concern is that I feel like if I bring it into an apple store saying "the sound quality is way worse and it is crackling/popping occasionally," there's no way they'll take me seriously, since they don't have the reference point of "what it sounded like pre-top case replacement." Anyone have any ideas for how I can approach this? It's is extremely clear to me that there's an issue, since the top end of music sounds so bad compared to how it did pre-repair, but I can see how apple support (or anyone) would be skeptical without a specifically "broken" part. Assuming the speakers are just messed up/partially blown, I'd ideally like a fresh top case put on, but I don't really know what to do to minimize getting blown off. Thanks for your help. | Posted: 30 Apr 2019 04:04 PM PDT So I have a 2010 iMac with a 320gb HDD with data that I would like to transfer to a new iMac that I've purchased. I've removed the drive from my old iMac and put it in my enclosure to transfer to the new iMac, however the drive won't appear at all. I've tried accessing it on both the new iMac, as well as another PC I have. The old iMac boots to a white screen and is essentially unusable, however I don't think the drive has failed I'm just wondering if anybody knows how I could access the data on the old drive. | Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:47 PM PDT So, i have an iPhone 8 Plus. Recently, i switched carrier from T-Mobile to Verizon. And after switching, my phone has been having these problems. The problems include: - No service continuously (i turn on and off airplane mode, it's fixed for a while but it goes back to no service again) - When i call someone, unclear voice and static noise None of these problems occurred when I was using T-Mobile. I've went to the Genius Bar for help several times and most of them said to erase the phone and start it up again. Either that or recycle this one and buy a new one. I don't want to do any of those options. So, anyone got any recommendations/suggestions on how to fix this? My husband's carrier is also Verizon and sometimes his signal is not so good too but he doesn't have the problems i have. I always thought Verizon was expensive because it's a good carrier with the best signal and service but i guess i was wrong. Thank you for your help, much appreciated. [link] [comments]  |
| Intermittent distortion and static in menus Posted: 30 Apr 2019 03:37 PM PDT This is occurring on a 13" MacBook Pro (Mid-2012 model) running Mac OS Mojave (version 10.14.4). Essentially the issue is that I will occasionally get some sort of screen distortion, essentially like coloured static. Usually it is barely legible to the point that I can use it enough to properly restart my MacBook and then the problem goes away (for a while). Sometimes the issue makes menus, windows, or the dock completely illegible. Rarely it occurs on the entire screen at once. I also recently completely wiped and reinstalled MacOS after my university term ended as my computer felt slow and bloated. I thought maybe this issue would be fixed as well but it's still occurring.
