How do i figure out what DAC Chip my Macbook is using?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 01:33 PM PDT

Hello, how can i figure out what my Macbook Air 2015 (early) is using?

Is there a terminal command for it?

I already checked out the system specs but it doesn't say anything about the chip.

    Kind Regards,

Does the Macbook Pro 2017 13 inch no touchbar have a removable SSD?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 08:49 PM PDT

I just watched a iFixIt video for the 2016 edition, and I was wondering if the 2017 edition also has a removable SSD. If it is, is it possible to get a bigger SSD to install it onto my macbook pro?

New MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, day one.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 04:35 PM PDT

Bought during last week's $600 off sale. So far very happy with it. Every operation is extremely snappy. The keyboard feels better than the 12 inch MacBook that I had. I heard a lot of bad things about the Touch Bar. But you know what? So far, the Touch Bar seems to make a lot of sense. Let's see how long this love affair lasts, haha.

Hello everybody, looking for help finding a replacement for my now defunct MBP 2011 15 inch. I’m an Art Director/Music Producer using Adobe CC/LPX/FCP daily.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 08:17 PM PDT

Hello and thanks for reading this post. I'm an art director/electronic musician and use the software mentioned daily. My MBP 2011 15inch worked fantastically through school and was my work computer for many years. It suddenly died recently and tried everything to revive it using all methods I found online to no long term success. I need a MBP I can travel with and work on when I'm not on my iMac at home (which is also starting to show its age since I got it in 2013). Ive read reviews and researched online but prefer the user input from Reddit to make a final decision. I have 2000$ and maybe a little bit more to spend in a machine that will hopefully not die like this one did. Planning on using it with Ableton for live electronic music too so I'm divided between the 13 inch models and the 15 due to the portability which I'm willing to sacrifice if performance only if massively different. With so many models and opinions online I'm a little bit confused so was wondering if I could get some advice from the community. Thanks for your help, time and attention!

Does anyone know why I can’t update to Mac OS 10.5 or newer? I just got 10.4.11 installed and I updated all the apps. I got the motherboard replaced and it’s 64bit mid 2007 2ghz 4gb of ram 250gb storage.

MacBook Pro 2017 13 inch non touchbar question

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 10:45 AM PDT

So is this model possible for any upgrades at all? Or is it all soldered on? What are some ways I can get more storage if I need it? Sorry new to this MacBook stuff.

2019 MBP weird issue with the screen going completely black for a few seconds

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 06:13 PM PDT

I have a 2018 MBP, that I just bought in December 2018. Today the entire screen has gone black twice, only for a few seconds. It seems to happen in Chrome, but I don't see how Chrome could do this. The entire screen will be black, but the computer is still on. Any idea what could be wrong?

    MacBook Pro 13” in 2019

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 09:13 AM PDT

Recently I was thinking about getting MacBook Pro 2017.(i5, 8GB RAM 125GB no touch-bar)

Mainly for film editing, some music production and graphic design. I'm planning on purchasing the 2TB external hard drive & a dongle for various needs for this MacBook.(if I buy it)

And here are my questions: 1.If you bought a MacBook Pro 2017 in 2019 what are your experiences? . 2. Are keyboard malfunction still the big deal after all the media fuss? Has Apple repaired their MacBook Pro keyboard mechanism or minimalize the failure frequency?

3.What are your experience with this model, after using it for a long time?

4.Any tips for keeping the keyboard safe and clean? (I only know about compressed air thingy.)

5.For how long time this MacBook Pro served you? Thx for answers. :)

Using Google drive to backup my Mac

I have a free 1 TB storage that I get on Google drive for having Google fiber, and I was wondering if it was possible to use it to back up my Mac instead of paying for iCloud storage?, and if it is possible, how? Thanks in advance.

Issue with my late 2012 macbook pro

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 01:07 PM PDT

Last week my macbook began shutting off on its own at random times. Either it would turn back on on its own or I would power it on myself.

The other day it happened again. However this time I couldnt get it to power on. When it shut off it was at about 65% charged. I decided to plug it in for a while. The charger showed the orange light as if it was charging. I still haven't been able to power it on.

Today I went to my local tech shop and told them the problem. It will cost $50 to run a diagnostic and even more to fix it. They recomend that I take it to the Apple Store. Repairs could cost me hundreds of dollars.

Is it even worth having fixed or should I just get a new laptop? By no means can I afford a new macbook. I have been looking at chromebooks as well. I dont know what to do.

Should I get a battery change for my Late 2013 15 inch MBP Retina?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 03:18 PM PDT

I currently get 2-3 hours of battery life with my MacBook and it is running pretty smoothly. Should I get a battery replacement or should I just get a new laptop? I'm thinking of maybe getting a Surface Pro since it is lighter and more practical for college use.

Average temps for normal usage on macbook air 2018?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 07:20 AM PDT

I installed iStats and i saw that my cpu temps are between 57-59 degrees Celsius and battery health is at 99%, is that normal? Shouldn't it be 100% because i just got the laptop like two weeks ago.

    Thanks.

MacBook Pro (2018) external monitor issue. HELP!

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 05:30 AM PDT

I've been using my MacBook in clamshell mode and have been hooking it up to an external monitor that's 144hz (I think this is relevant to the problem. It's been working fine for the past month, today however while in clamshell mode I changed the hertz of the external monitor and it went blank and eventually said no signal. I list some specifics below to help with diagnosis and potential fixes.

    1. the monitor works fine when the Macbook is open and mirroring
    2. I've reset PRAM and SMC to no avail
    3. if I change the rotation of the external monitor to 90, 180, or 270 degrees I can close the Macbook and the monitor stays on, however once I change the rotation back to standard the screen goes black and eventually the no signal message comes back on
    4. I have gone into /library....com.apple preferences and deleted that but still no fix
    5. I strongly believe it has something to do with the refresh rate on my external monitor although it was running 144hz fine previously

Thanks for any suggestions, have googled heaps but so far no fix :(

PDF Type A on a MacBook

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 10:15 AM PDT

    Hello fellow redditors.

Next week I will submit my Masterthesis, however before doing so, I need to make sure that I'll upload it as PDF "Type A".

Is there a way to see which type of PDF my file is? I exported it with Microsoft Word on my MacBook and checked "Best for electronic distribution and accessibility".

    Thanks for your help!

    Updating to 10.14.4 on mbp

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 09:39 AM PDT

So I just bought a new MBA and when I updated the software, it automatically gave me the option for 10.14.4. My girlfriends MBP (2018) would not update past 10.13.6 through automatic update nor was it able to find an update when I went through the process. I had to google the update, link to the Apple site, open through iTunes, then manually download and install.

Why was it so difficult to upgrade to the newest software?

Apple store said it was fine, but macbook 2018 Touch Bar flicker has gotten worse, do I go back?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 04:26 AM PDT

(Posted on r/mac because I'm confused as to why there are 2 macbook subs)

    https://imgur.com/Iv4le0s <-- Video

It wasn't that bad before and I went to the apple store and they said it's not a big deal I should be fine, but now it's gotten a lot worse and has affected the keyboard even when it was awake. Before it would show it and not flicker only when the Touch Bar went to sleep. Now it is affecting it when it is in normal use and I can't press the button. Should I take it in again?
