10.14.3 - SMB3 Performance Issues - Force SMB2 Posted: 02 Feb 2019 09:14 AM PST SMB3 performance in 10.14.3 has been impacted by an update to the protocol in this release. I've noticed that my SMB share access times/transfer speeds severely impacted all network activity on my MacBook Pro (2018). After much tinkering, the below steps resolved the issue. If you access SMB shares, this may affect you. Here's what I did: Disconnect from all SMB shares before continuing! Using Terminal, Create /etc/nsmb.conf Force SMB2 and disable packet signing Using Terminal, Skip Reading .DS_Store Files from SMB (from Apple Support) source => https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208209 Reboot and reconnect to SMB. Gigabit (or higher) speeds from SMB shares should now resume! EDIT: corrected this is SMB, not samba. [link] [comments] |
Formatting Disk in Terminal vs DU Posted: 02 Feb 2019 07:42 PM PST Why is it that many commands work in terminal when they won't work in another application? For example, when i try to erase certain disks in diskutility, I often encounter errors if it's been formatted on Linux/Chromebook previously; but in terminal, eraseDisk has worked consistently (I am using a shell with regular user permissions I believe- no sudo). Failing HD how can I do a restore Posted: 02 Feb 2019 05:28 PM PST Okay, I've got a Mac Mini and the hard drive is failing. I ordered a new solid state drive to replace it, and have the OS loaded and it running. What I want to do is back up the old HD and do a restore from the backup to the new SSD. Can I do that with the old HD in an external enclosure or do I have to put it back in the Mac Mini and hope it will boot (it wouldn't when I took it out), back it up to Time Machine and then reinstall the SSD and restore to it? Any help on a way that doesn't involve opening the machine up again would be much appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Feb 2019 05:48 PM PST Might be a dumb question, but anyone have advice on how to use Find My Friends on MacOS (Mojave)? Any advice or help is appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Unlimited screen saver-time (no sleep) Posted: 02 Feb 2019 12:05 PM PST When I turn a picture in full screen mode with the Photos-App, my MacBook doesn't went to sleep. Therefor I moved my mouse in the down-left corner and my screen saver turns on. (I got this cool Fliqlo screensaver-clock) And it never turned off since then. I thought to share it here for everybody else, who also likes his screen saver a lot! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Feb 2019 07:12 AM PST Is there a way that I can defer icloud drive's uploads? Most of the time I put my project folders on the desktop, but once they are being created, icloud immediately starts to upload all of the files onto icloud drive. Then it drives my CPU usage to 100%. I am only using a 2018 macbook pro 13 inch. It starts to slowdown the system if I dont do anything about it.. I want to delay those uploads, is there a way to do that? [link] [comments] |
What is your go-to app for playing MP3 music on your Mac? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 08:01 AM PST iTunes is too bloated for something as simple as playing mp3 files. I have been using an older version of Vox for some time. Was wondering if there is any no-frills player that I haven't heard of. I would love it if it can read (5 star) ratings that I had done for each of my ripped albums in Windows (MediaMonkey used to save the ratings done via their software in the metadata of the file which could be read by Windows Media Player).
