[Discussion] Jailbreak or lower firmware; The lesser of two evils.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:54 PM PST

    Hello everyone,

Nobody will ever care who I am so let's just cut to the case.

Many apps are cracking down against jailbreaks. These apps grow in numbers each new jailbreak, and fail every time. Some disable some functions, others try to aggressively murder your phone. And the other group just locks you out as user. But what all of these groups do wrong, is that they are ignorant. Ignorant to the world around them. Ignorant about the fact Security is a war you can't win. And ignorant that they are attacking the people who actually might know more than their average user on that firmware.

The truth is, an app can protect itself better if they embrace the jailbreak. Yes, detect it. Yes, soft-block users. But NO: Don't make it "you are Jailbroken." They should make tweaks that protect them by implement ORUP (One Root User Protocol) by blocking the exploit trough Substrate / substitute so the user can get in but the attacker can't. And, to protect against malicious tweaks, add key elements required for the functions to their own protection tweak, that stop any .dylib that doesn't belong there (or any changes to existing ones), to be loaded in the app.

History shows time and again that detection gets bypassed. It's time they wouldn't discriminate lower firmware from Jailbroken users, or even favor out lower firmware over jailbreaks.

I know people within the security of a bank (and a family member is (kind of) a supervisor for them) and I will be passing on a well-documented version of what I'm writing here to them.

Since I will want to make this useful worldwide, I will be writing it all in English. It's not my native language, so I will have to ask favors to get it all spell-checked before draft.

And, since I am not as good with iOS security as some of you, I will need to hear any and all regards to security, how it theoretically could be mitigated, and how much time it'd cost to implement such a thing.

And if I won't get help from any of you guys, at least wish me luck!

For anyone who cares who I am

    sincerely,

    John NemECis

[News] Happy Futurerestoring! iOS 12.2 beta sep is compatible with all iOS 12 versions!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 02:29 AM PST

I just updated my iPhone X to 12.1.2 using the 12.2 beta sep and baseband firmwares. I expected it to be compatible and I just future proofed it by testing it. It's really great to know it doesn't break the Touch ID or Face ID functionality! We can safely assume the sep of the final version of 12.2 will be also be compatible with previous iOS 12 versions!

Can't wait for the jailbreak now! Even after 12.1.3 stops signing we can use the 12.2 sep in futurerestore! This could be the longest surviving jailbreak ever!

JUST SAVE THE FUCKING BLOBS NOW!

    [Discussion] voucher_swap reliability observation

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:02 PM PST

I have noticed from my use of the few voucher_swap tools such as RootKit and Badges Customizer on iOS 12.1.1 I have noticed that the exploit fails every time with low power mode on and it perfectly stable with it off. Any ideas about how this works with the exploit?

[Question] Why is everyone restoring to 12.1.1 and not 12.1.2?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:09 PM PST

I'm on an iPhone X, I've read somewhere that 12.1.1 fixed an issue with cellular and 12.1.2 added it back. Is that true? And if not what's the real reason? Thanks in advance!

[Question] Can somebody combine the Alticha voucher_swap fork with the Razmashat RootKit voucher_swap?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 07:41 PM PST

iPhone XS Max user here. Can somebody please combine the Alticha voucher_swap fork (https://github.com/Alticha/voucher_swap) with the Razmashat RootKit voucher_swap fork (https://github.com/razmashat/voucher_swap)?

The Razmashat RootKit voucher_swap fork has a /var file manager, but doesn't support A12 devices, but with Alticha's voucher_swap fork, A12 is supported. I would like to be able to use the RootKit voucher_swap with my iPhone XS Max.

If it's possible, could somebody please combine them together?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:20 PM PST

Im thinking about jumping from 11.3.1 to ios 12.1.2 but i read that both 12.1.1 and 12.1.2 have cellular and wifi problems, and some are saying 12.1.1 has better battery life than 12.1.2? to those who have iphone x on 12.1.1 or 12.1.2 what is your experience?

[Question] Whatever happened to the tweak "Potato" by iOSCreatix? It let you assign Activator actions to Bluetooth headphone buttons.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:22 AM PST

I'm trying to assign Activator actions to the buttons on my Bluetooth headphones. (Thought it would be cool for a remote camera shutter.) Apparently there used to be a tweak called "Potato" by iOSCreatix that could do this, but I can't find it anywhere anymore. This was the original release announcement and here's a subsequent update.

Does anyone know what happened to it or where I can find it? Thanks so much!

    [UPDATE][DISCUSSION] App Store is back!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:01 PM PST

After frustrating moments of the " Cannot Connect to the Appstore " bug which affected mainly iOS 11-11.2.x. Causing many people to update and uninstall tweaks, I can confirm that it works now on my 11.0 SE and 11.2.1 6s. Anyone else?

[Discussion] Can computer backups of ios, in a jailbroken state, retain cydia related files?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 01:03 PM PST

I've seen some people saying this is true when it comes to iCloud backups. I'm curious if it also applies to backups stored to a computer. Reason being is I believe there are some cydia related files in my xs max. 'How?' you might ask, well long story short I had to update my old jailbroken 10.3.1 6s+ to 11.4.1; I did a full restore from an icloud backup. As we know a JB for 11.4.1 has come out and I dug out the 6s+ to JB and discovered old cydia settings from 10.3.1 still lurking on my device. I'm experiencing some issues with the 6s+. If this is true I want to completely wipe and prepare my xs max for the potential release of a 12.0-12.1.2 JB. However would prefer to save some data; imessages, contacts. I used apple's 'Transfer content from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch' when I got the xs max.

TLDR: Can computer backups of ios, in a jailbroken state, retain cydia related files?
