[Discussion] Calling all Sys-Admins in support of BigBoss Repo

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 10:14 AM PST

/u/0ptimo Is in charge of the BigBoss repo their server is being SLAMMED right now due to the new jailbreak.I am offering to 0ptimo a 1 gig symetrical link in kansas city to assist in the efforts of getting the load distributed. If any other sys-admins have available bandwidth please chime in!

    -EDIT-

    Thanks for the Gold anon!

    -EDIT #2-

0ptimo has stated he does not wish to pursue this route at this time. For the time being please hold off on reaching out to him to offer help.

I will continue to post updates from 0ptimo's twitter below as they come in.

    -UPDATE FROM /u/0ptimo -

Working ASAP on restoring the repo. The new jailbreak has been quite a surprise. Asking for everyone's patience through this excitement. Thanks. I have contacted with @Pwn20wnd to see about meantime solutions. No ETA just yet.

    https://twitter.com/0ptimo/status/1099369807441526784

Repo performed without concern overnight, but too many connection now. The pressure is likely to further increase today and make access difficult. Reconfiguration will be necessary and needs patience. I cannot give timeline/eta yet but will post updates today. Thanks

    https://twitter.com/0ptimo/status/1099385078973689856

Many suggest to me: having other servers host important dependencies in the meantime. Those other repos will do as they wish and may be helping users get the important packages. But I cannot commit to expanding / load balancing using 3rd party mirror servers at this time.

    https://twitter.com/0ptimo/status/1099388613677273089

unlucky timing today plus real life. No lead time on this jb release. Overnight demand saw 15x traffic to the repo, which was recently downsized. Also a concern: jb payload has no cache index. So clients do a 'full refresh' rather than differential request from rolling release.

As I go thru post I have yet to see anyone arguing or being rude. Nothing but positive responses when it comes to asking questions and helping each other. Just thinking back at how the Electra release went...not to be a softy but I loved it. The way the community comes together is one of the reasons I never left. Happy Jailbreaking guys!

[Discussion] Important information about various Cydia errors with Unc0ver related to Tweak installation

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 09:32 AM PST

    Hello, it's GeoSn0w.

As some of you are aware, there are some errors popping out in Unc0ver's Cydia for those of you trying to install some tweaks on iOS 12.

Most of the errors are due to BigBoss default repo being down

(I believe it is because of the huge traffic)

UPDATE: Yes, Pwn confirmed me that some real damage has been inflicted to the server due to the huge traffic. 0ptimo needs time to fix it and it's not happening at the moment I write this. The wait may be longer.

    Explanation:

A big number of tweaks are not standalone tweaks in a single blob - they require other dependencies to work. These dependencies could be anything, but things like PreferenceLoader and ColorPicker are very common. When you try to install a tweak, Cydia will scan its dependencies (specified in the debian control file of the tweak) and it will attempt so see if it can find these dependencies already installed, or available in one of the repos that are currently added.

Many of the dependencies including the aforementioned two, are part of BigBoss repo. BigBoss is very old and has been with us for a very long time. It has, therefore, a lot of tweaks and dependencies stored in there. Since BigBoss is currently down, none of the dependencies can be installed and therefore they will be marked with red by Cydia and it won't let you proceed with the installation. This is normal while BigBoss is down.

    Other errors or events:

While BigBoss is down you may get errors or events like:

    • POSIX: Operation timed out.
    • The repository "http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia stable Release" does no longer have a Release file
    • Opening BigBoss shows as empty.
    • Searching for a common tweak like "Cylinder" yields no results.
    • Tweaks do begin to install but you get a lot of 404 errors and the installation fails.
    • Cydia crashes when it reloads the repos.
    • Cydia shows a red error text when it refreshes the repos or it reloads.
    • Timed out-related errors.
    • HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

All of these are normal and specific to the BigBoss being down. Do not panic.

    Potential fixes

    WARNING! NOT RECOMMENDED!

One could add other repos that may have the dependencies, but it's kinda hard to piece them together. RPetrich's repo has PreferenceLoader, for example, but I do not recommend doing this. You'd have to manually cleanup later which is hard.

Another thing you can do is to find the DEBs for the dependencies and manually install them via SSH, again, not recommended but doable.

I would highly recommend waiting for BigBoss to get back up.

    DO NOT

Please do not remove the BigBoss repo. Some people removed it because it kept on erroring out, but if you remove it, you will still not be able to add a ton of tweaks due to their dependencies no longer existing for Cydia. If you already removed it, navigate to Cydia, Add more sources, add BigBoss (after the BigBoss is back up).

    Additional issues

Some people may experience one of the following, which are not related to BigBoss being down, but rather with Unc0ver.

    • Device unsupported. -> This is normal, it means you have an A7/A8/A12 device which is currently not supported.
    • Device is stuck in respring loop -> Bug. The voucher_swap exploit seems to break ldrestart. Pwn knows and he's on it.
    • NetDB: Open nodename nor servername provided, or not known -> Bug in Apple's code (TLS). Known bug.

[Release] PassBy — Free passcode bypass and more!

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 05:17 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I've just updated PassBy to 1.8.2 fix a very minor bug in the preferences on iOS 12, although virtually all features were working already.

EDIT: Turns out Apple decide to make one of the functions I was using to detect WiFi no longer reliable on iOS 12. Therefore, v1.8.1 (form November) might not work well in that regard.

I submitted to BigBoss, and in the meantime, I have also uploaded the .deb to Dropbox.

In case you don't know what this is, this is a free (and open source GitHub) tweak that lets you mark certain WiFi networks or Bluetooth as "safe" so that your device won't ask you for passcode.

    Screenshots: Settings and Guide

This allows you to skip over the passcode:

    • By using an Activator action

    • When connected to specific Wi-Fi networks/Bluetooth devices (and optionally set a timeout)

    • Within a certain interval from last time locked

    • While using wired headphones

    • Using a secondary passcode

You can also choose if you want to automatically dismiss the lockscreen, or do so only when no notifications nor media controls are present. This tweak conforms to iOS' SOS mode, which usually disables biometrics and is triggered by a certain sequence of button presses (device specific), and will therefore disable itself in such situation.

The tweak can also be disabled during certain times.

I have received many feature requests since the first release in September, but unfortunately I haven't been able to deliver some of those due to the amount of work I have for my final year of university.

I also said I would've worked on version 2.0 (I'm gonna spoil the main feature: scripting) but that was off the table. I hope I'll have the chance to work on it later on in the year!

Also, if you're a developer or just want to help a little, pull requests and issues submission on GitHub are greatly appreciated!

    [Upcoming] Essentialis Cydia/Sileo repository.

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:18 AM PST

Hi guys, as you may know, BigBoss was taken down by the amount of requests, since BigBoss is so essential in the Jailbreak community, we cant download a single package.

So this is my solution. Introducing Essentialis. Essentialis is the first repository for only essential and basic dependencies for running tweaks.

    Advantages over BigBoss:

    • More bandwith
    • Sileo native support
    • Less packages and faster loading
    • No ADS

No this is not like RepoDeclutter by CoolStar. This is a new repo using my own things to power most of the dependencies, note, this repo will NOT host tweaks. The only thing this repo will host are basic dependencies for them like PreferenceLoader. Developers will be also able to move dependencies from their repo towards Essentialis.

Now since this community loves ETAs, I expect to release Essentialis with all the basic dependencies, I expect to release, today or tomorrow.
