MacBook 2016 power button doesn’t work. How do I turn it on? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:06 PM PST Shut it down instead of restart (oops). Spilled whiskey on the keyboard a year ago. Cannot use power button, enter, backspace, and the letter P. Besides that it's fine. I don't have the stupid special Apple five sided screwdriver. How can I turn it on? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Feb 2019 12:13 AM PST Hi everyone! I have a MacBook Pro 13" (mid 2012) and I have some problem whit it! Sometimes, when I open the Mac after a sleep mode, the single click does not work and I have to restart the Mac. I don't know if is it a software or a hardware problem. Late 2013 MacBook Pro won't go past Apple logo Posted: 06 Feb 2019 11:24 PM PST I dropped my mac recently (lid was closed). There are no visible cracks to the LCD, the backlight seems to be working and it turns on (I hear the chime and can toggle caps lock). Is it safe to assume my data is fine still as the computer has an SSD? The turn on sequence is a bit weird. I've connected it to an external monitor to see if it works and I get the Apple logo on the external. After that sequence, only does the backlight on the mac itself turn on. I can control the mouse on the external monitor for a little bit and then both monitors just turn to a backlit black screen. I was wondering if anyone had any input on how to fix this? Would this be a repair I could do myself and also how much should I expect to be spending on this repair. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Are the latest Macbook Pro's really as unreliable as everyone says they are?.. Thoughts?.. Posted: 06 Feb 2019 09:53 AM PST I am in the market for a new laptop, as I've been saving for one for about a year now and finally have enough money to buy one. With that being said, I'm heavily leaning towards the 15" MBP with the extra $100 upgraded AMD 560x gpu, for a total of $2500. However, I've seen alot of posts on here that suggests that the latest macbooks aren't very good or reliable as they used to be!? I have no frame of reference to this because my first and last MBP was the entry level 2010 - 13"model that I got right before I left to college in 2011. I loved that thing and it worked great all the way up until 2015 or so, when my parents drove my car to me during the summer (in Boise, Idaho - the desert; 100+ degrees..), with my macbook in the trunk, inside my suitcase, but turned on/sleeping I'm assuming.. But when my parents got there and I dug my MBP out of the suitcase.. The battery had exploded inside and had destroyed my macbook completel (trackpad blew up into pieces and the whole thing was warped and busting at the seems. And obviously it wouldn't turn on or work at all.. The cost of the repairs by Apple was close to $800 or so which would not have been worth it, since I paid $1300 for it nearly 5 years before that time... So I scrapped it for about $120 in parts.. Sad day. But long story short, I haven't had one/been able to afford a new one since. Especially since the price of a good MCP had nearly doubled in recent years. It seems like you need to spend at least 2 grand now adays to get a good laptop/macbook that can keep up with today's expected functionality/quality requirements. Anyways, I've been very anxious about buying this new MBP due to all of the war stories/rumors I've been hearing/reading about on reddit where people are saying that the newer (after 2015 I guess..) macbook pro's are not very good and not very reliable. I really hope this isn't true because if it is, I don't want to buy one and regret it later on down the road.. especially after spending $2500+ on it. SO CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME NAVIGATE THROUGH THIS AND FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO OR NOT TO DO?? I really enjoy the mac OS, and basically the whole mac experience. Other than the experience on my wallet.. But like I said, I don't want to make a big mistake and buy an expensive paperweight if it's really as bad as everyone makes it seem. Please, someone talk me off the ledge or tell me it's okay to go for it. Thank you for your time my fellow reddit users. [link] [comments]
$999.99 for MacBook (2017) or MacBook Air (2018)? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 08:17 PM PST Both are on sale for this amount from authorized apple retailers (b&h photo, Costco). Which would you get? I'm familiar with pros and cons but find myself split between rose gold and being more future-proof [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro (13“ Mid 2012) not responding + issues with graphics? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 02:22 PM PST Hello everyone, my MacBook Pro is super slow and/or the programs are not responding. Installed Mojave recently and now, additionally, the graphics look like somehow threw the display into a chaff cutter. (The pixels are basically all over the place..) My only solution rn is to do a backup & a hard reset - if anyone has another solution how I might make the little fella responding (faster) again please let me know. Any help is appreciated. 2017 vs 2018 13" MacBook Pro (256gb w/ touchbar) Posted: 06 Feb 2019 06:04 PM PST I have the option of buying either the 2017 or 2018 MacBook Pro used. The 2018 is a bit more expensive, but I don't really know how much the two differ. Are there any major MacBook Pro changes that occurred from 2017 to 2018? I know the 2018 one is faster, but is it really noticeable? The only "intensive" apps that I run are Photoshop, Xcode, and an occasional iMovie project. I would love to hear your input! Limitations/frustrations of the 2017 i5 12” MacBook? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 05:08 PM PST My main machine has been the good old 2012 non-Retina MBP (8GB, 500GB SSD). On an impulse, I bought a used 2015 12" m3 MB, and I really love it. It's still slower than my MBP, so I carry it exclusively in my work bag and use my MBP at home. As I gear up to replace my MBP, I've started thinking that a 12" i5 MB could replace both machines when Apple presumably refreshes the line this year. At home, I'll connect it to an external display and use a BT keyboard and mouse. As such, I'm wondering where the friction points are for the 2017 i5 MB users. My normal workflow includes statistical modeling in Stata, multiple Safari windows, and word processing. I also occasionally do light Photoshop work. More demanding tasks can be completed on my work-provided iMac, although I wouldn't want to be forced to defer work to it all of the time. Thanks for any insights! [link] [comments]
Macbook pro (mid 2015) shuts down randomly and keeps on rebooting. Posted: 06 Feb 2019 10:19 AM PST Like I said it in the title, my MacBook pro has been shutting down randomly. It doesn't restart immediately. It get reach to a loading screen but then it restarts again. It goes on forever. I read it some where that it's a problem with some memory so something and costs $600. Anyone had a similar problem? I am taking it to the store soon. But I am afraid that they will quote me $$$ which I cannot afford. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2019 11:39 AM PST I installed windows on my Macbook Pro so I could play rainbow 6. But the macbook seems to run a fair bit hotter in windows than it does in macos. (Fan noise would reach about 60db when running rainbow) Is this considered normal? Macbook Pro 15" 2018 2.2 ghz i7 6 core Radeon pro 555x [link] [comments]
Macbook Late 2013 performance question Posted: 06 Feb 2019 02:11 PM PST Hello! I've purchased a second hand Macbook Pro 15" Late 2013 for about 700$ - i7, 16gb RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX750m, 500gb SSD. After ages of researching, I found that this laptop is the best-buy for Macbooks in 2018 (I've bought it in december). I absolutely love it, it's really nice compared to my old Windows laptop. I've changed the battery, cleaned the dust from its insides, factory-restored it and then installed Mojave OS. It works really good overall, but it has a few glitches when I use iMovie and Safari. On iMovie I just wanted to edit a short 1-minute video (just to put an audio over it, so nothing fancy) and the fans just went crazy, it slowed down and even froze for a few seconds. The whole system got slow and it only "calmed down when I closed the program. On Safari, everytime I go back to a webpage, the page freezes for 2-3 seconds and I can't scroll or click anything on it. I don't have any other problems with it, but I don't know why it has these problems. The hardware was top-notch in 2013 and even if it's 2019 I don't use demanding programs or games. Do you have any ideas of why is this happening? I'm having second thoughts and wonder if I didn't hurry with it and maybe should have purchased a 2015/2016 model with i5 and 8ram (for the same price, give or take 100-200$). [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2019 06:17 AM PST USB also lights up when connected, just doesn't appear on Mac's screen whatsoever. [link] [comments]
