Looking for an alternative to Finder.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 12:43 PM PST

I would prefer a free (gratis) alternative, but I'm not opposed to paying for an application if its configurable with rich features.

    What are you all using?

Rename 100 files with 100 rows of copied text

    Posted: 20 Jan 2019 01:53 AM PST

I'm looking for an advanced way to rename files. I found solutions with termina, and text files, but this too messy.

    How can this be done:

    • Copy multiple rows of text
    • Mark multiple files in Finder
    • Hit a hotkey and every file is renamed by each row of text

    Restoring Browser Tabs

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 06:55 PM PST

How do I stop losing my tabs every time I close Safari or Chrome?

Every time I press the red X to close the window I lose all my tabs even though I've both browsers set to open with what they had loaded last.

If I go into the menu and quit from there the tabs are retained though. Muscle memory from years of Windows has me hitting that X so many times though.

How do I go about stopping the red X from wiping my tabs?

macOS Mojave on a MBP won't sleep

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 10:29 PM PST

My 2017 13" MBP battery fully drains overnight when lid is closed. Seems like it tries to enter sleep mode but something is blocking that or waking it up immediately. It started couple of weeks ago when I noticed it was very hot when I took it out of the sleeve. Since then I've tried numerous things. SMC/NVRAM resets, different user profiles, safe mode. Finally I did a clean install of Mojave and closed the lid on 100% battery. Woke up this morning and flashing battery icon was there to greet me indicating that I needed to charge it again.

    system.log is full of the following during the time it was supposed to be in a sleep mode: admins-MacBook-Pro xpcproxy[3572]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper_userdir: 529: bootstrap_look_up returned (ipc/send) invalid destination port admins-MacBook-Pro xpcproxy[3576]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper_userdir: 529: bootstrap_look_up returned (ipc/send) invalid destination port admins-MacBook-Pro xpcproxy[3580]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper_userdir: 529: bootstrap_look_up returned (ipc/send) invalid destination port admins-MacBook-Pro UserEventAgent[40]: notify name "com.apple.EmbeddedOS.DeviceConnected" has been registered 3220 times - this may be a leak admins-MacBook-Pro xpcproxy[3582]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper_userdir: 529: bootstrap_look_up returned (ipc/send) invalid destination port admins-MacBook-Pro xpcproxy[3590]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper_userdir: 529: bootstrap_look_up returned (ipc/send) invalid destination port

Could it be hardware fault? EFI?

    Pages for Sierra ?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 10:11 AM PST

    Hi there!

Is there a way to get Pages for Mac Sierra? I tried to install it from the Mac App Store but as usual, Apple love to impose you its updates...

I only need pages to work with a client for a short time and I don't want to switch to High Sierra for just a contract.

    Thanks you all!

    Middle Click Glitch... Razer/USB Overdrive?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 10:59 AM PST

So I got a MacBook Pro 13 inch used. im trying to see if I want to switch from windows, which im pretty sure I do.

however, I play Runescape from time to time. I middle click a lot in this game. Im using USB Overdrive to disable acceleration (the most annoying feature of all time imo).

Basically, after some middle clicks, a weird glitch happens.

When I right click, where I'm hovering doesn't highlight. also when I click on boxes and stuff, it acts weird, sometimes I need to click multiple times to get it to register. middle click is also completely disabled when this happens. relaunching finder doesn't fix it, but relogging does. Another thing is the cursor status will be glitchy, like it might pick up the resize arrow shape and keep that when it shouldn't be if that makes sense. half the time it doesn't change to the correct shape either, like the little pointing hand... and if I try to drag something, it doesn't register my left click and keeps it dragged until I hit escape.

what could this be? is it just usb overdrive? any fix? its really odd and generally makes all the cursor interactions feel broken.
