I launched the first third-party Apple MFI Lightning to USB C Cables Posted: 19 Jan 2019 01:22 PM PST Happy Saturday r/apple! First, I hope although I am not a software but more a hardware developer that this post is OK for Self-promotion Saturdays. My name is Matt and I am the founder of Eastern Collective. I am a solo-entrepreneur I have been designing products under Apple's MFI Program since 2012 with my product's being sold in stores like Nordstrom, Brookstone, Urban Outfitters, West Elm, Restoration Hardware, and I even designed the tech accessories aboard Qatar Airlines. I got my start designing Apple Accessories by popularizing the colorful woven nylon charging cables back in 2012 and got covered by a lot of media! As a smaller brand, it can be difficult to compete with the big names in tech accessories but I really enjoy having the flexibility to do whatever comes to my mind! To get out ahead of the bigger brands, I've taken to Kickstarter to launch my collection of Apple MFI Lightning to USB C Cables before all the other brands begin shipping theirs to retailers this Spring. I know people sometimes have an aversion to Kickstarter projects but I do have experience raising over $250k cross 4 crowdfunding campaigns for my other travel brand, Sondre Travel. Going the Kickstarter route, allows my brand to be the "first" to allow Apple's new connection type for order. The Cascade Cables will feature Apple's brand new c94 chip which enables Fast Charging on your iPhone to charge 2x faster, our signature rugged nylon design, 6 feet long, charge your iPhone from iPad Pro, and ditch the dongles to your Macbook. I'm not here to beg for backers but as an avid reddit user myself, I wanted to chance to simply talk about the project directly with Apple fans! However the Early Bird deals sold out but I reopened them for this post/subreddit so you can pre-order one at only $22 if you are interested in the project at all. You can check out the campaign here for the Cascade Cables on Kickstarter! Also feel free to AMA about the working in the MFI Program, Designing Products, Launching a Kickstarter, my favorite Apple device, and anything in between. I am already preparing for a sea of downvotes as I know reddit is never a fan of self promotion, etc, but please be nice :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jan 2019 07:37 PM PST The internet doesn't forget, but it seems like a repository is no where other than torrent sites. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Just appreciate Mail.app for a moment Posted: 19 Jan 2019 05:16 AM PST During the last 12 months I tried using Windows only at home (some professional graphic design for customers, illustrations, mail and the rest if the usual stuff). It is hard to imagine, but there is nothing like Mail.app. I realized that after using the stock Windows 10 mail app, Thunderbird, Mailbird and finally Outlook. They aren't entirely bad, but are full of quirks or just miss features. Nothing comes even close to Mail.app. See the list: - Nice, responsive (as in 'fast') UI - Fast search - Smart folders. Can't appreciate them enough - Support for Exchange out of the box - Support for unlimited accounts Since I need ALL of the above, and for various other reasons, I reactivated my MacBook Pro :) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 20 Jan 2019 01:37 AM PST So I'm going full apple. Watch, ipad, macbook iPhone xr and when they come out airpods 2. Should I get apple tv, i already have a samsung 4k smart tv. Is it worth it? Is it just an upfront cost, I already have netflix so that's not a problem but is it just x amount or is there like a monthly fee [link] [comments] |
Is getting a second HomePod for a small apartment worth it? Posted: 19 Jan 2019 11:22 AM PST I live in a small ~650 sqft apartment and my single HomePod does a pretty good job of covering the whole place. Would picking up a second one be worth it to help improve the sound and more evenly distribute the sound? I've heard some raving reviews about HomePods in stereo pair, but would it be worth it for such a small place? [link] [comments] |
Favorite Option-click macOS Actions Posted: 20 Jan 2019 12:49 AM PST In a Safari window with many tabs, Option-click the X on a tab to close all others but that one. It feels so good. [link] [comments] |
iPad Pro as second screen for MacBook 12 inch Posted: 19 Jan 2019 02:54 PM PST As for the title, I travel and move around for work a lot and I need an ultralight solution, I am very happy with my MacBook 12 inch (apart for the keyboard that needs to be kept clean at all times to work..) even when I run photoshop on it. But when I open spreadsheets or I need to multitask the screen is just too small. I am thinking to add an IPad Pro as second screen and solutions like Duet seem to work. My question is: can you efficiently use the IPad as second screen to run photoshop? Is Photoshop usable in that situation? Is the pen useful at all? Also how smooth and reliable the whole second screen is? [link] [comments] |
Apple smart battery case not fast charging with USBC PD. Posted: 19 Jan 2019 01:12 PM PST For the people with the new battery cases, have you noticed the same? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jan 2019 01:42 PM PST Self promotion as allowed on Saturdays. I did this for Android yesterday and doing this for iOS too. I am an app developer and am giving away my School Timetable app which usually costs $4 for free this month. I am also giving away my mood tracker app for free at the same time too. If you are interested, you can check it out. The iOS one has an in app purchase which is usually $4 but I have set it to free. Make sure to redeem it (It will show $0). School Timetable: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/school-timetable-class-uni/id1444231921?mt=8 MoodWell (mood tracker & private journal of how different activities and changes in weather effect your mental health): https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/moodwell-daily-mood-journal/id1443436795 I have the app available on android too but Google doesn't let you set in app purchases to free. I gave away 410 promo codes yesterday on the Android subreddit. In order to make it look as close to home as possible, I coded both iOS and Android apps individually from scratch in their own native languages and UI. Hoping people find it as close to their ecosystems as possible! Few people might ask why my app vs some other calendar app? I am the developer so of course my opinion would be biased but here's it anyway. My app is more focussed on doing one thing aka keep your school/university schedule at one place and it does that one thing very well. The screenshots should help support my opinion. It also comes with lock screen widget and Apple Watch app which are also dedicated to your class schedule. It's a hyper focussed app for your school schedule instead of a calendar app which is sort of meant for a lot more things. It's like a dedicated sharp knife for chopping tomatoes instead of a swiss knife which can do a lot more things but isn't the best and sharpest for chopping tomatoes specifically. I would suggest trying the free app and if you think you might benefit from it. The promo will get you the app for free so there's not much to lose. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have issues or any feedback! [link] [comments] |
Anyone have henge vertical dock? Posted: 20 Jan 2019 12:15 AM PST I really want one for my new MBA 2018 but they don't make one(yet???) does anyone know if they are planning on making one or if the MacBook Pro model will fit. I tried reaching out but no response. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jan 2019 04:55 AM PST For some receipts you get a downloadable pdf at the bottom of the email e.g Apple products. For other Apple receipts like iTunes movies I've just stored them in a folder in the mail account. As far I could see there was no way of sharing the contents of that receipt unless I screenshot the email and cropped it. Only recently by accident I found that in the stock mail iOS app if you select print at the bottom then zoom into the item it automatically creates a pdf of that receipt. Or you can also choose the pages then zoom in and instantly creates the pdf. Use the share button then to move it somewhere else. For people who don't know this like me and for years hoarding emails I hope this helps. [link] [comments] |
iOS home screen refresh wishlist Posted: 19 Jan 2019 03:07 PM PST Considering Apple has had good time to think over this home screen refresh which is expected in iOS13 (and was supposedly pushed back from last year's release), I assume it's going to be more than a cosmetic makeover a la iOS7. So let's say Apple and the iOS team has made it an objective to re-think the home screen from the ground up. What functionality, features, and/or design elements do you guys hope to see? For those who use Spotify with HomePod, how annoying is it? Posted: 20 Jan 2019 02:40 AM PST Is it so super clunky and frustrating, that you don't use it much, or is it pretty good still? And am I right that it acts as a normal AirPlay speaker, so you have to play music on your phone, then click the 3 waves in the top right corner of the iPhone/iPad now playing screen and select the HomePod? Posted: 20 Jan 2019 02:08 AM PST Does anyone have any recommendations? Working in macOS is a must. Would be nice to sync to iPhone app, but that's just gravy. Would prefer it not be web-based but fully hosted on my computer (thus ruling out the easier iPhone app possibilities), but I'd choose having the data in my computer over having it on a server somewhere else that gives me iPhone convenience. Regardless, just need it to work. DB itself is very simple. Thanks for any recommendations. [link] [comments] |
Tv to AirPods is there a simple way to do this? Posted: 19 Jan 2019 09:52 PM PST I realize there are a bazillion configurations to think of but my question is this: if you hook up an optical out to Bluetooth transmitter to your TV...can you connect your AirPods? [link] [comments] |
