Apple Scripts to click menu bar items no longer work Posted: 30 Jan 2019 08:13 PM PST I just noticed today and think it may be to do with updating to 10.14.4 as it was working last week. I have scripts on my touch bar to click on various menu bar items, such as to toggle Bluetooth or connect/disconnect PIA. Tried to use the PIA one today and it didn't work. After copying the script into script editor and trying to run it, I got this response: System Events got an error: Can't get menu 1 of menu bar item 1 of menu bar 2 of process "pia_nw". Invalid index. It's always worked before. I did a bit more digging and trying to get the name of every menu bar item of menu bar one only shows: {"Notification Centre", "Siri", missing value, missing value, missing value, missing value, missing value, missing value} I've tried a few different things but just keep getting missing value and invalid index errors. Does anyone else have the same thing happening, or know a way to fix it? [link] [comments]
How is "zoom" supposed to work Posted: 30 Jan 2019 10:10 AM PST I am new to MacOS, however the only thing I didn't manage to figure out is how the hell the "zoom" functionality is supposed to work, I mean the one triggered by double clicking the header bar of an application, or pressing the green window control button while the Option button is pressed. As far as I am aware, this should be a "traditional" maximize feature, like the one on Windows or most Linux window managers, however while in some cases, it does exactly that, in other cases, the maximization is done only partially, for example the Safari window in this image is the result of a zooming, however it clearly doesn't cover the entire available desktop space. I find this really annoying, since sometimes I want to maximize screen space but without sending the window to a different workspace, and because "zoom" only works partially, I still have to manually resize windows. Is there a particular reason why "zoom" behaves this way? Is there any way to make it properly maximize every window? [link] [comments]
Any way to stop my MacBook going to sleep when I lock the screen? Posted: 30 Jan 2019 05:30 PM PST Since the latest MacOS update, whenever I lock the screen it shortly afterwards turns off the monitors and goes to sleep. I then have to wait 4-5 seconds before I can unlock my MacBook and often the windows / screens are rearranged. Never had this problem before the latest update. Does anyone know some way to disable this new behaviour? [link] [comments]
how separate pdf into high quality photos Posted: 30 Jan 2019 08:22 AM PST [SOLVED] I have a pdf file with a lot( around 50) high quality scan images, I want to somehow extract all pages as single high quality images without doing it by hand with every page. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2019 04:35 AM PST I've run the terminal command to always show hidden files/folders but it didn't work. I have downloaded a BIN file, but it doesn't show in the downloads folder. It does show in All My Files; but I can't select that option when trying to select this file in a program. How do I go about getting finder to show .bin files? [link] [comments]

If I reset an old Mac, will it be able to download OS to install? Posted: 30 Jan 2019 10:14 AM PST So I was wondering, if I reset a Mac to factory settings on a 2011 Mac, will it be able to download an Mac OS to reinstall? I'm asking because 2011 don't support the latest OS Mojave. So when resetting, will it download the latest compatible OS to reinstall? Or will it lock me out and will I have to reinstall it a different way? [link] [comments]
"Alternative content -- Can contain any HTML: DIVs, IMGs, etc." Posted: 30 Jan 2019 09:32 AM PST I've run into this problem while unzipping files. I'll unzip a file, try and run it by opening it with an internet browser, only to get either a blank white or black page with the above message. It's extra frustrating because the same files ran fine on my mac air a few years ago. Would someone happen to have a fix? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2019 09:31 AM PST Hi, I have a mid-2015 15'' MBP with onboard graphics. About every 30 mins, the graphics lock up entirely (there's still the same image on the screen, but nothing changes) for around 10 seconds. This is the console log from it: If anyone could let me know of any possible solutions, I would be most grateful. [link] [comments]
Battery time estimation - how? Posted: 30 Jan 2019 05:19 AM PST Hello. I'm wondering how iStat Menus estimates remaining battery life? Is it accurate? I do not know whether to trust it, because it showed 3:57 at 60%, but 4:54 at 57% ... [link] [comments]
I need help getting access to this menu on the Privacy tab on MacOS Posted: 30 Jan 2019 04:41 AM PST My Virtual Box stopped working and I realised what I did. I stopped 2 extentions from working on my Macbook, not knowing that the app needed them to work. I need to access this menu for it to work properly. I just have NO clue how to get that prompt to show up. Here's the link: https://imgur.com/a/16M4UjL again for those who didn't see the hyperlink. Thanks for the help! [link] [comments]
Changing font in Dictionary.app? Posted: 30 Jan 2019 03:22 AM PST Hi guys! I've recently seen some pre-Mojave screenshots of the dictionary pop-up and it has a much nicer font that mine! The font of my dictionary is just the default apple one. After some research, and searching files, I can't find anything that is immediately useful. Does anyone know any way to change this? Can't seem to find anything in System Preferences or FontBook either... I'd love to have some font like Baskerville, or Garamond (the latter I have downloaded in my FontBook under User's fonts). One step better: how would I go about changing the default font of the whole system? Again, I have done some research, and this doesn't seem at all feasible. Worth a shot, but I would be satisfied with a nicer looking dictionary... EDIT: with my limited knowledge of Terminal and my blind Googling, I have tried using sudo vim but I cannot find any .css files... [link] [comments] |
