The Apple Books dark mode shows us what a potential iOS 13 dark mode could look like

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 12:33 AM PST

    Screenshots here

As you can see, it uses a mix of pure black dark mode and gray tones that looks great on an iPhone X.

It also activates automatically when the phone detects low ambient light, or rather, when you're obviously in a dark environment. This could suggest that Apple is working on an automatic scheduling feature for the system. It could even bring some sort of scheduling to macOS's dark mode.

    Thoughts?

Those with the current gen MacBooks, do you get used to the keyboard?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 06:39 PM PST

My 2015 could use a refresh. But trying the new MacBooks in store the keyboard feels super plasticy and just bad.

Stupid question but why is apple so invested in AR

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 10:42 PM PST

Been reading tons of apple rumors lately and all of them involve some form of AR and how apple really wants to improve it by adding even more cameras and potentially a laser system.

I was just wondering, why is this... why is AR so important to apple I am just curious that's all ☺️

About Apple possibly switching Lightning to USB-C on future iPhones

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 09:24 PM PST

I'm neutral about Apple using Lightning.

But this got me wondering, Apple can charge manufacturers royalties for making Lightning cables via MFi programme.

Business and money-making aside, I believe cables marked by MFi also means that it went through Apple's testing and is safe to use.

However if iPhones go USB-C, there wouldn't be a need for MFi anymore. Which means we aren't sure whether a particular USB-C cable is safe to use.

    Thoughts?

(I'm not exactly sure what are some possible dangers but when I say "safe" it's the same rationale as people saying non-MFi cables are risky/not as safe.)

How reasonable is it to expose an outdated mac as server to the internet?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 11:54 PM PST

I have a Mac Mini whos last supported OS version is El Capitan. It is used as server in the home network. I really would like to be able to SSH home from the go and use SFTP for some files. However I'm squeamish about opening up the machine to the internet as I don't want baddies to use it as entrance into my home.

Does anyone have experience opening up your outdated mac to the internet? Any special monitoring or protection you suggest?
