Posted: 31 Dec 2018 06:17 PM PST Hey I got a issue with my MBP 2018. I just got back from the Apple store and the genius bar had to replace my 2016 MBP with a 2018 model. I've been using at lg uk600 4k 60hz monitor on my 2016 MBP via hdmi with no issues, but this 2018 model won't display anything past 30hz. I've read online that I should just switch to display port but I'd like to see a solution to the hdmi problem if there is any. Just weird that the 2016 MBP didnt have any issues but the 2018 does. Hope someone has a solution for this. [link] [comments]

Reinstalling MacOS on mostly authentic Apple hardware Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:32 PM PST So I have a Mac Pro 5,1 that is all original hardware except for the graphics card (an MSI RX570). It currently has only linux on it, but I would like reinstall MacOS on it. I had planned to boot into the internet recovery mode, but if I hold Cmd+R or Cmd+Option+R while booting the screen remains black until I release the keys, at which point it begins booting the linux installation. Similarly, holding Option stays on a blank screen instead of bringing up the boot options. Does anyone know how I could get internet recovery mode to boot or if there is another way I can reinstall MacOS? [link] [comments]

MBA virtual memory after upgrading to Mojave Posted: 31 Dec 2018 01:35 PM PST Hi! I use a mid-2012 MacBook Air with 4 GB of memory. After finally giving into the Mojave upgrade prompts the other day, I've noticed my swap file is beginning to swell to upwards of 20 GB. This is a problem because 20 GB is pretty much all the available space on my 128 drive, so all of a sudden I'm being asked to force quit applications because I've run out of memory. My usage patterns haven't changed since I upgraded, so any idea why this is now a problem, and is there anything I can do to address it? Thanks. [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro is unresponsive. Please help. Posted: 31 Dec 2018 06:53 PM PST Hi everyone, I was recently trying to install Windows 10 on to my MacBook Pro late 11(8,1) when I had encountered an issue. I am currently stuck In a boot menu style thing and I am unable to do anything at all with the system, the whole keyboard is unresponsive while booting the machine so I am unable to do anything at all and it sends me to a black screen where it says "No bootable device". I have tried several different trouble shootings (e.g. "holding down the alt/option key", "holding down the "C" key", "holding down command alt/option "P" "R"") but non of these work whist the machine is booting as the keyboard will not work. I have tried several external keyboards to do things as the main on board keyboard wouldn't work but still no joy doing so. I have also tried resetting the SMC on the Mac and also reseting the PRAM/NVRAM but still nothing and the keyboard will still not work and I am very stuck for ideas as non of the trouble shooting guides will resolve this issue. The USB ports are still working on the MacBook how ever but the bootable usb that I had still will not boot on the system at all. With the system being unresponsive all together I am very stuck for ideas and I have tried most things that I have googled about and I have been trying to get this working for 6 hours and I just don't really know what to do anymore, and was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me fix this. I am not bothered about losing any data that I have on this machine as all my files are backed up over several devices. I just need a fix to this to get my machine back up and working being as though I use it every single day. Any answers at all will be appreciated to get me to get loved MacBook back to life I would also really appreciate any shares on this post to try and solve it quicker Thank you in advance Josh [link] [comments]

Help with Safari video player pls! Posted: 31 Dec 2018 04:30 AM PST Sometimes when I play videos on safari, for some websites/hosts, Safari uses it's own "video player thing", is there a keyboard shortcut for the rewind/fast-forward 10 seconds buttons (bottom left)? If not, is there a way to get Safari to not use its own player and instead let the website/host use its own player. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Dec 2018 08:40 AM PST Just solved this issue, but in the name of submitting info to the internet and troubleshooting for anyone with the same issue in the future, I thought I'd make a thread. Had been putting up with a very laggy mouse for the past couple of weeks on my MacBook Pro 2017 13" thinking it was perhaps a symptom of Mojave, as I'd read that people were having UI latency issues. Every couple of seconds the animation for the mouse would drop frames, although tracking itself didn't seem to change all that much, this became much more noticeable when plugging in my external mouse and monitor instead of just using the trackpad. Wondered whether it was an app of some kind causing the lag but Activity Monitor didn't really show any weird spikes. Anyway, long story short, I reset the NVRAM and after my Mac started back up all is back to normal, and the mouse is smooth again. [link] [comments]
Mac mini i3/10gbe VNC performance over LAN Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:10 PM PST Can anyone report on the performance of the new mac mini w/ i3 and 10gbe over lan? I'm wondering if I should get the i7 instead given the lack of a gpu. This will be VNCed into from a linux box. [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Dec 2018 08:37 AM PST At some point in the last six weeks I have inadvertently turned on voiceover and now it will not turn off. I have gone into settings and unchecked the box and I do command Q it when it appears but every time I log on it's still coming on. Any ideas how this can be stopped, it's driving me nuts having it load at every log on. [link] [comments] |
