Posted: 03 Jan 2019 08:26 AM PST Album of the housing replacement You may already know of Apple's attention to detail when it comes to alignment and color matching of components. But did you know about the... 1. Button stabilizer bars Like the shift and space bar keys on a computer keyboard, the actuation of the long buttons on an iPhone are stabilized using a stabilizer bar. This enables very uniform tactile feedback at all points of the button. From the iPhone 2G to the iPhone 5S, only the sleep/wake button was stabilized, as it was the only long button in the phone. Since the iPhone 6, both the sleep/wake and volume buttons were stabilized. To my knowledge, no other manufacturer does this with smartphone buttons. 2. Antenna design All the antennas for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, cellular, NFC etc. are built straight into the unibody enclosure. The iPhone doesn't use discrete antennas that were embedded into a plastic cowling/speaker block or conspicuous coils, but instead has screw bosses on the logic board that double as an antenna feed point. These make contact to laser-etched areas of the unibody via an unconventional-looking fastener. Thank you Apple, very cool! 3. Prioritization of screen and battery repairs The iPhone saw some ups and downs in terms of repairability in its early days. The 2G had no external screws and was hard to pull apart, the 3G/3GS' screen was easy but the battery was hidden under the logic board, and the iPhone 4/4S' battery and back glass was easy to replace, but the screen was a challenge. It wasn't until the iPhone 5 when the phone's design made it such that the screen came out first, and the battery a close second (and in theory, without prying, since the 5S/5C). Unlike most every smartphone, the iPhone's screen is not adhered directly to the phone. The screen is "married" with a sub-frame (death do them apart), and a system of clips affixed along the perimeter of the unibody's interior grabs hold of pegs in the screen's sub-frame. Newer iPhones from the 6S and up do have adhesive lining the screen, but it's mainly for 3D Touch and ingress protection. Replacing the adhesive during a screen replacement is of course ideal, but entirely optional. The screen is perfectly secure without it. Beats having to rely on adhesive only. The type that comes in rolls is rarely a good option; the pre-cut OEM type is magnitudes better. 4. Front camera AR coating/dedication to maximum optical efficiency of cameras It's standard fare for the rear camera lens to have an anti-reflective coating, to reduce glare and increase optical efficiency of the camera. It's not common practice, however, to coat the interior of the cover glass where the front camera sees through (some phones made by HTC and Sony have a dedicated front camera lens), nor the camera module itself. 5. Dependable battery health data Will amend with photos if/when I have time - stay tuned if you can be bothered to [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Jan 2019 02:39 AM PST Endured for such a long time, the cellular 4G is fast. But it's FREAKING UNSTABLE. Drops to 1 or 2 bars as frequently as it stays at 4 bars. Can't even play a match of mobile legends /clash royale without "reconnecting" every 10 seconds or so. Tried DFU restore etc. So pissed. A $1000+ product.. [link] [comments]

Is it possible to downgrade a phone on the iUP program? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:55 AM PST I went from a X to a XS Max when the phone launched in September and am realizing now that I could probably do better off with a smaller phone again. Is it possible to downgrade a phone while on the iPhone Upgrade Program without resetting your upgrade date? It's well past my 14 days to return, so if it's not I won't be surprised, but I figured I'd ask since I couldn't find info on this anywhere online. [link] [comments]

iPhone 5c and XR users: which colour phone do/did you use (not necessarily you like it most)? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:28 AM PST For one, I like the blue one. However, I would rather have a black phone than a blue funky one. (No offence intended.) [link] [comments]
Mail app - unwanted repeat notifications Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:14 AM PST I have just switched to iPhone, and I am using the stock mail app for my work exchange account. I actually really like it, after trying all of the other major ones in the app store. However, one thing is annoying me. I am getting occasional repeat notifications for emails I have already cleared; in some cases, I have already deleted the email, even. And yet, the notification keeps returning. Is this a known bug? Anyone else having this issue? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2019 06:57 AM PST Anyone else having dual sim issues ? Currently utilizing Verizon on the eSim and Google Fi on a physical sim. iPhone is failing to recognize the google Fi sim while traveling and have to revert to Verizon travel pass instead. Google Fi says everything is a go on their end. Responses ? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2019 06:53 AM PST Anybody else has the following issue and was able to find a decent resolution? When the charging wire is connected, I need to keep the wire raised on the phone side. I do this by sticking a pen underneath the wire or by placing the phone screen face down and letting gravity sag the wire down a bit. It won't charge when the phone and the charging wire is sitting on a flat surface. Really frustrating. On a 6S Plus. Tried multiple wires with no change in behavior. [link] [comments]
