[Update] The future of Sileo Compatibility Layer

    Posted: 15 Jan 2019 02:11 PM PST

So, this seemed to blow over the sub as a whole last night, I expected to be replying to an "[Update] Sileo 0.4b5!" post, but since it seems no one reported it...

Anyways, so Sileo was updated, featuring sorting packages by installed date. Hooray!

The new Sileo update, however, is not so great for my purposes. It has a number of other, smaller changes, but they affect the Sileo compatibility layer in a rather large way:

    • They hardcoded the electrarepo64 into Sileo, requiring an additional hook by the Ocean Team to forcibly remove it

    • After the BigBoss ad issue, the ocean team added a "enable JavaScript" feature to Ocean, which they very graciously placed a permissive license on, so I added their fix to Sileo Compatibility Layer and was working on a fix for the freezing due to massive source lists, however last night's update broke that method too, the Ocean Team has since updated their tweak to fix it and Sileo Compatibility Layer to fix it. However, that may be futile, considering that Coolstar today told me in discord that he intends to permanently kill webview depictions. If he does this, but also doesn't kill the ability to add "non-sileo" repos as a dependency, we're right back where we started with stealing BigBoss' bandwidth. If he does this, hypothetically, a tweak could be made to fix it, but I'm not sure how that'll go down.

    • They have removed the entire method sbingner was using to provide the JSON package data that made Sileo compatible with our APT version. Bingner may or may not fix this, I don't know what his plans are.

    • They also removed the 0.4b2 deb from their repo, so I can't just tell everyone "hey, we fixed 0.4b2, so stay there for now", because I am not able to legally rehost 0.4b2.

Coolstar was accused of intentionally breaking sileo compatibility layer in discord, he told me in #\sileo of the r/jailbreak discord that these methods had been inlined as a performance enhancement. Basically, I've decided I'm not going to continue to contribute to this project until Sileo is open-sourced, which will reportedly happen once Sileo is out of beta. (I currently don't have a single line of code left, every single line I wrote for the compatibility layer was actually already broken and replaced before the initial public release. The only contributions I made that are actually still in the project are related to the installer, and "that's just a bash script".

If someone else feels that this is important enough to continue this cat/mouse game, it is fully open source and under GPL3, I would like to also informally add to the permissions of that license: If you would like to update this, you have full permission to rehost it on your own repo/website, so long as you credit myself, sbingner, and the ocean team. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't really know how to add that to the license on the GitHub repo,

I've requested that coolstar privately add me to the sileo GitHub, however he refused (which, is his right to do) because "you're too affiliated with pwn".

    :/

    TLDR:

    • I am not working on sileo compatibility layer until sileo is open source, but if someone else wants to come along and pick this up, be my guest

    • I am not able to host the old version of sileo compatibility layer, because the last working version of sileo has been removed.

    "That's all, folks"

edit: if Bingner fixes it, I will edit this post to reflect that, and I will once again host sileo compatibility layer and sileo installer on my repo, but who knows for how long.

edit edit: Bingner did fix it, I will release it in the morning (CST) when I have the ability to monitor the situation, last go-around was basically a disaster, and me releasing at 12 AM did not help the situation.

    [Question] Sprint CarrierCrack Data usage?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2019 09:09 PM PST

Just started testing out the Sprint CarrierCrack and I see that it is using my Mobile HotSpot instead of data when I connect it. I do not have Hotspot turned on and no one else uses the hotspot but that seems to be used instead. I cut out the top due to having my Information on it but here is a picture of every 15 mins usage https://imgur.com/a/B0xKviD I can provide speed test but it varys per user and its been fairly good for mines, but the only concern is that my Hotspot usage goes up but the Data stays the same unless I turn off the tweak.

[Request] Tweak to make albums in an album in the photo app

    Posted: 15 Jan 2019 12:31 PM PST

I'm looking for/requesting a tweak which makes it possible to create multiple albums in another album. Look at it as the concept of a file manager.

I need this for a crap ton of vacation pictures I have, and I'd rather have them all in one album and then see them than have half my photo app albums covered by all the albums with pictures of my vacations.

[Discussion] How do I disable front facing camera (iOS 8, iPhone 5S)

    Posted: 15 Jan 2019 11:47 PM PST

I urgently need the front facing selfie camera on my iPhone 5S running iOS8 to be disabled from taking photos. On older iphones/iOS versions it can simply done by navigating to System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N90AP.plist and disabling the camera.

However, on my device i'm not able to find the plist. Is there a quick and simple way I can get it disabled? Thank you

[Help] Unc0ver has been giving me major issues

    Posted: 15 Jan 2019 06:16 PM PST

Ill try to keep this as short as i can while being detailed. So I switched from electra to unc0ver a month ago to fix battery draining issues and its definitely fixed that. Now ive been getting random resprings more and more. I restored RootFS and slowly reinstalled tweaks. Kept having problems. Did t again and downloaded less and less tweaks each time, the sources remained the same i never had to re-add them. Now im experiencing a major problem where i wake up and my phone is in a jailed state. Thatd be a small issue except unc0ver has this problem where i can only get it to work jailbreaking without tweaks, then coming back to it and reenabling tweaks and rejailbreaking, but even that hasnt been working. The problem has carried across the last three versions of Unc0ver because ive updated the version to the newest one in hopes of fixing said problem. Im 100% its not any tweak because went through many RestoreRootFS just to make sure it wasnt any certain tweak. Crashreporter always says nothing. I really want to use Cydia Eraser and just start New, but saurik has yet to update it. Im running out of options and really just want a stable jailbreak. iOS 11.1.2 iphone x using AW kernel exploit.

[HELP] Need to fsck my iPad filesystem & rebuilt catalog btree. (missing 80GB free space) How do I get /dev/disk0s1s2 mounted Read Only?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2019 11:18 AM PST

Long story short: My iPad's HFS+ volume has a bizarre problem where it acts full at ~13GB free, giving apps the "No space left on device" error. Yes HFS+, because I'm still on iOS 10.2.1.

I've been trying to solve this for 6 brutal months. A few months back, somehow I was able to issue:

    sync && umount -f /private/var && killall backboardd && fsck_hfs -f -y -d /dev/disk0s1s2

and I eventually got it to work, and it said the free space bitmap was way off, and BINGO I got my 80GB free space back. But VERY strangely, the free space steadily dwindled by the hour and I could not figure out what was causing it. Oddly, it seems to have stopped around the 13GB point. I reproduced this at least 3 times in a row. I'd always get that 70-80GB back, and it'd always fill itself up with phantom data(?) until ~15GB or so.

It's been stable the past 2 months with this 13GB limit, as long as I don't hit that, things are OK. I know this is strange as hell!

I have confirmed with du commands that only about 170GB of my 256GB are used, despite df claiming otherwise:

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on

    /dev/disk0s1s1 4658100 3771428 840092 82% /

    devfs 50 50 0 100% /dev

    /dev/disk0s1s2 243067980 227615204 15452776 94% /private/var

df -i shows there are plenty of inodes available:

Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on

    /dev/disk0s1s1 4294967279 130276 4294837003 1% /

    devfs 174 174 0 100% /dev

    /dev/disk0s1s2 4294967279 858934 4294108345 1% /private/var

Now, whenever I try to umount-f /private/var, my iPad instantly reboots every time (it appears like a hard-reset). But I can see from /var/log/fsck_hfs.log that fsck NEVER gets triggered on its own under any circumstance - not even a force reset. (The only one I'm aware of, is an iOS Update).

Also, any time I killall backboardd, now it instantly resets. I can't think of anything that's really changed. The only stuff I have jailbroken (Meridian .IPA activated via totally-not.spyware.lol) is the basic openssl/SSH and afc2d, plus Instagram++ and xCon so certain apps don't detect I'm jailbroken. I added coreutils too but I doubt that matters.

So, I desperately need to initiate my own fsck_hfs but I can't figure out why my old method doesn't work anymore! I've literally just tried every possible combination and order for the past 8 hours straight.

Any ideas? I can find plenty of posts on how to fix an RO into an RW, but nothing on how to make an RW become RO so fsck can execute.

I did save a log of a successful fsck from back in August, here's what it looked like:

    iPad-Pro-256GB:/ root# umount -f /private/var && killall backboardd && fsck_hfs -f -y /dev/disk0s1s2

    umount: /private/var: not currently mounted

    iPad-Pro-256GB:/ root# fsck_hfs -f -y /dev/disk0s1s2

    ** /dev/rdisk0s1s2

** Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.

    ** Checking catalog hierarchy.

    ** Checking extended attributes file.

    ** Checking volume bitmap.

    ** Checking volume information.

    ** Trimming unused blocks.

** The volume Data was repaired successfully.

I'm feeling pretty good that if I can execute a fsck_hfs with the -r option to "rebuild catalog btree", this could solve it.

Is there any way to trick iOS into doing that itself? What if I delete /var/.fseventsd/fseventsd-uuid? Would that make it rebuild the catalog btree?

I'm desperate for help and you can't imagine how grateful I am for anyone who can solve this! Thanks sooooo much!!

BTW the whole problem started last year when I originally DID truly fill the iPad down to 0 bytes. Something must've corrupted probably when it failed to write. (tbh Apple should've designed the OS to handle disk full conditions more gracefully).
