Review of Final Fantasy Digital CG (from Japanese CBT)

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 11:46 PM PST

Hey all, I've had the chance to try the new upcoming FF digital card game. This will be a cross-platform standalone game unrelated to the physical TCG and the Triple Triad mini-game , this is their first official mobile card game.

The closed beta had limited access to content and to be fully honest it was quite barebone, similarly to how Civ 5 was at launch, a solid shell of a game built for future feature implementations but lacking initially.

The game will release simultaneously on iOS / Android /PC but initially in Japan only, same as FFRK, FFBE and Mobius. At this point there is no info on when the Open Beta or Launch will be, nor how long after the Global release will be but anyway, as an experienced professional gamer allow me to share game info and my thoughts.

As all Japanese games are, this is a gacha game, the rates as follow:

    • 02% UR
    • 05% Leader cards
    • 10% SR
    • 13% R
    • 70% C

As you can see on this picture, there was a total of 8 UR so far, and I was able to get all 8 of them during the 8 days of CBT. While many gacha games force you to get multiple copies of the same UR/SSR cards to max their effects, in this game, as long as you get your first copy you can choose to upgrade it with mats of its element instead of farming for its specific "shards".

Since only PvP was unlocked, I cannot yet comment on other systems but a PvE campaign as well as an event system will be there at launch. I believe you can expect something similar to FFRK since this game shares the sprites and music , with weekly events.

The PvP works with seasons, 1 per month, here's a photo of the pretty basic ranking system. The right tab is for guilds.

Now the most important thing for me, and hopefully for you guys too: THIS GAME ISN'T A SECOND JOB. You aren't forced to spend 2 hours twice a day or anything to keep competitive. Like The Elder Scroll - Legends, you get 1 daily quest per day up to a max of you, and you can change one you don't like everyday. So if you're busy and can't play for a few days, just give it a quick login for the login reward and you're done. Also the daily quests are not hard to complete and some can be completed at the same time like a "3 wins as Water team" + "3 wins in Ranked".

That said you are also rewarded with more rewards from playing more based on an achievement system. See this picture, left tab is daily quests, current tab is achievements. Some of them where reaching X level, completing X thing, winning X matches as Y team, etc.

Here's a pic of someone about to get raped because why not.

Here's a one of what a deck looks like. As you can see, cards have a play cost, ATK, HP. The stars indicated more powerful cards, but you are limited in how many stars you can include in your deck. The levels are card progression from upgrading with mats of gacha duplicated. You can make and save plenty of different decks, reusing your cards, if you wish.

The game was already quite polished, and had few bugs, but the content was very little.

All in all, I'll definitely by playing this because fuck games that force you to play hours everyday or miss out on progress. This is let you enjoy yourself based on your own time schedule and you can really play and upgrade the cards you like without having to worry about pulling duplicates in gacha.

I also invite you guys to join the subreddit for the game:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyDigitalCG/

I'll keep it updated as more info is made available. And since I am fluent in Japanese, I'll be able to help the community for those who want an early join into the game.

    Merge Games

    Posted: 26 Jan 2019 05:48 AM PST

i absolutely love these merge games i'll admit i'm a sucker for trying them when i get an ad but the one thing i can not stand is all the ads that come with them. is there any decent/good ones out there that don't have a ton of ads or a feature that lets you get rid of them?

    Space LLC

    Posted: 26 Jan 2019 09:10 AM PST

I came across this game recently and have been absolutely loving it. It's an idle incremental, with a tiny bit of clicker in there, but not much. This is my favorite style of idle game, and the graphics and leveling/prestiging seem to be going very smoothly so far. Highly recommended. Also the IAP's are there, but absolutely not necessary to have a good time or level up. There's just so many crap idle games out there now that are p2w, when a gem like this comes along, I feel like I should share it.

Maginary - animated interactive book made specially for iPhones

    Posted: 26 Jan 2019 03:21 AM PST

Hello. Actually, I am a pretty shy person and it's difficult for me to promote anything I've made by myself. But today I am proud to introduce you Maginary — the game I've been making for long two years.

It's not just a game, actually. This is more of a mix of different genres (games, literature, cinema). It was inspired by Device 6 game, and if you liked it, you would most probably love Maginary.

You can watch the trailer here: https://youtu.be/A9VPVZBW4Zk

And then you can download it here: https://itunes.apple.com/app/maginary/id1291905541?mt=8

Maginary is an animated immersive novel for iOS, whose main hero is you, the reader. Every detail of Maginary including its plot, animations and interactions are made for one main purpose — to demolish the fourth wall, standing between the reader and his imagination. This is a truly new form of reading, filled with beautiful sounds and typography animations that adjust to your reading speed. But it's not just a passive reading. In order to move through the plot you will have to interact with the book's fictional world, using iPhone's most surprising features. In one of the chapters, for example, you'll have to blow at the book's page (yes, on the screen itself) in order to raise some strong wind in the book's world and save the character. In the other fragment, you'll have to take 1,000 steps along with the book in order to help the character reach his destination.

Probably a tall order for an iOS game, but are there any atmospheric exploration games out there?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 10:07 PM PST

I've been playing a lot of Sea of Thieves on my pc lately. I'm not really into the PvP thing, but the game is just too gorgeous for me to give up.

Galaxy on Fire 2 kinda scratches that itch. It helps that it has the trading mechanic, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Kingdom: New Lands is on my list, but I want to see if there's anything else first.

Lastly, I'm open to non-iOS recommendations, so whatever you got, bring it on!

    Chromas Puzzle Game

    Posted: 26 Jan 2019 03:03 AM PST

I've just released my puzzle game Chromas. It's a simple concept but some of the later levels are pretty tough.

150 of the levels are free and I'll be adding more in the next few months. Let me know what you think!

    Favorite iOS game genre

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 03:56 PM PST

TLDR; Can you folks please vote on your favorite genre on this form here.

I originally created this post to figure which genres we (r/iosgaming) like but I have failed miserably at it. No no, I will not sugarcoat this, I was hoping to see a list of genres beautifully listed in comments with upvotes indicating popular genres but what I got was list of duplicates and some comments which were not genres. So please cast your vote here and I will declare the results here by next week!

    Text-based/simple MMO’s?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 08:43 PM PST

I've recently gotten back into old school MMO's but its been pretty hard to find any on iOS. There's a Telegram based one that I really couldn't get into, but none on the app store from what I can see... Its probably not the most sought after genre but I have an itch scratch!

Are there any free/freemium games out there that aren’t a grind?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 10:42 PM PST

I know the business model for most mobile games is to get players to spend money to advance or just let cheap people like me grind away. I'm getting a bit tired of these types of games. Are there any out there that aren't like that?

    Any games like Infinite Knights?

I really like the concept of it and want to find more games like this. Bonus points if the graphics are pixelated too!

Are people really buying diamaonds or do other in-app purchases within games?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 03:09 PM PST

I really can't understand why so many games nowadays have this and also major game developers seem to focus on such kind of games.

How is it enjoyable to pay something for progressing?

I like to pay for game apps and then I can play a full game without ads. But within a game?
