    Mod Review

So we heard your threads, your threats of being this close to unsubscribing and we knew that something was wrong. Hence our Mod Review post. Viewable here. This allowed users to submit their feedback in a controlled and clear manner and to be honest and clear with the sub - was very helpful.

To break down what we learned:

    • Megathreads are here to stay - but the number of Megathreads is to be reduced to make the sub easier to navigate.
    • My Watch and Joined the Club posts - a large number of users are adamantly against these. However - they are the most upvoted posts, and this subreddit at a core is an Apple Watch Subreddit. As a result, all Standard Config pictures of Watches are now banned - however other non-standard configs are here to stay, so long as they meet submission guidelines.See below. Furthermore Joined the Clubs will be directed to our Weekly JTC Megathread.
    • WatchOS / iOS Bug threads - There is now a submission guideline for bugs, any issues reported that do not follow this guideline to be removed. This is to be implemented to assist not only OP but the users helping them by providing the information required to solve the problem. See example below.
    • Broken Watch Images are now banned. If you have an interesting story to share about a broken watch, this can be submitted as a self-post. Any Questions regarding screen repair to be deflected to Apple Support in first instance.
    • Mod Reports - Quarterly. We shall provide a small summary each quarter of any bans carried out, developer outreach to mods, and mod approval/removal stats. Expect to see the first one soon.
    • Developer AMAs - We have seen the users want more of these, so will continue to do so. If you have a particular App in mind you would like to see an AMA on, please send the Mods a message.
    • Interaction Threads - Despite the backlash - many users voted for us to continue our "Best of" threads, so expect to see one of these at the end of the year!
    • Toxicity in the sub - many users are fed up with the "just a watch", "another watch" comments on posts, so we kindly ask users if you're not interested in the content, scroll past and ignore it. It may just be a watch to you, but to the person posting - they're excited, they're having fun with their watch, let them have fun! We are all fans of the device after all! These comments will come under our new rules if the user repeats the behaviour.

    Rule Updates:

We think you're going to love it.

    Rule Description
Rule 1 - No Joined the Club posts Do not post "joined the club" threads with an image of your watch. We also do not allow standard configuration Watch images (a band and Watch combo that can be bought as one), which can be found here. Please post these in the Joined the Club megathread.
Rule 2 - No Low Quality/Standard Configuration My Watch posts Please ensure your My Watch post complies with these guidelines: Clear, well-lit images (No dark, blurry shots unless it's an artistic choice). No standard configurations - band/watch combos you can buy in onebox from Apple. If possible, provide more than one angle/shot as people are bound to ask! No images of broken watches without a second purpose (ie, to illustrate an issue, to tell a story; put these in a self-post with an imgur link).
Rule 3 - Follow the support post format All support posts must contain [Support] in the submission title. Please include the following in your support post: watchOS version. iOS version. Clear explanation of the issue. Steps taken to resolve so far. Contact Apple Support for further assistance.
Rule 4 - Posts must be relevant to the subreddit Submissions must be about Apple Watch or Apple Watch related accessories/topics. No "six degrees of Apple Watch"
Rule 5 - Non-question posts must foster discussion a. No low effort submissions or duplicate posts of recent submissions (past 2 weeks). App recommendations questions should be posted in the Joined the Club Megathread. b. Non-Question posts must foster reasonable discussion. c. Low effort activity threads (a simple image of a workout, a badge etc) must be posted in the Joined the Club megathread.
Rule 6 - Do Not Spam Spam, such as promotional content designed purely for commercial purposes, cannot be posted. Explicit moderator approval must be received to post giveaways or other content that is promotional. All promotional content must disclose any paid sponsorships. YouTube creators and developers may post their content on Self-Promotion Saturday.
Rule 7 - No blog spam/low quality blog links/referral links Do not post advert-laden, untrusted, or otherwise malicious websites and news sources. Do not post links where you stand something to gain. If you believe a blog you have linked to is not of low quality, message the moderators. (Amazon Smile is permitted)
Rule 8 - Be Respectful to other users Follow Reddiquette. Do not discriminate against or abuse other members. Breaking this rule will incur a 2-week ban, followed by a permanent ban for repeat offenders. Any attempt to Dox other members will also result in a ban.

These rules will come into effect from Wednesday, 16th January 2019

    Megathreads

    The JTC Weekly

This will become the one all stop for JTC Standard Config posts, activity achievements and new users questions such as "Just got my Watch, what apps shall I get?" We noted that after a week of pushing users to this thread from post removals, it got considerably more traction that previous weeks. This will ensure the content being posted is less likely to be repetitive and of an increased quality/OC content.

    Reactive Megathreads

For any massive hardware failures, userbase wide bugs after updates, holidays and events the moderator team will create a megathread to prevent spamming of the new feed. In the case of a news article, event, or app release, the first user submission to generate traction will become the elected Megathread for the topic. Looking at you Spotify App.

    One more thing...

    Wiki - Approved Submitters

We would like to open the Wiki to approved submitters to assist the mod team in building comprehensive AMA archives, App Reviews and FAQs for the sub-reddit. This will assist us with re-directing newer users to read the Wiki first before posting questions like, "What Apps should I download?", "Can I shower with my Watch" and "Hey what is this icon?"

If you are interested in helping us with this, please drop us a mod mail or send a dm to /u/allnutty to talk through the process.

    Summary

So that's it! That's all folks! This mod is all out of words!

I would like to say thank you to you all for all the feedback once again, it was incredibly helpful in establishing the above to make the sub a pleasant place for all users in 2019.

Decided to buy a 9H glass screen protector for AW Series 4, 3 days later I tripped on stairs and fell. Apple watch completely unharmed, cover shattered.

How well do the sport loops hold up for those who live an extremely active lifestyle? I'm talking things like hitting it against walls often (I generally wear my watch on the palm side of my wrist so the band always hits things) and getting it wet

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 07:59 AM PST

I'm looking to get a sport loop because I only ever hear about how comfortable they are and I love the adjustability compared to the normal silicon band. Before I do though I was wondering how well they hold up against fraying and just general damage for someone who lives a very active life with a lot of hitting the watch against things and getting it wet.

I've seen a big hit in battery recently. Any ideas how to see what's causing the watch to drain?

How to turn off Apple Watch display but leave watch running?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 08:30 AM PST

Is there a way to turn of the display on my watch yet still leave the watch running? I want to wear my watch in yoga class to get credit for exercising but I'm sure it's distracting to the other students to see the watch face turning on and off constantly as I move my arms. I read some articles saying that if you cover the display for three seconds with your hand, that will do it. However that hasn't been working for me. I have a new watch with the latest version of the OS. Thanks.

    Nike bands shorter than others?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 04:43 AM PST

Just got my first Nike Sport Band and noticed that I have to wear it on nearly the largest whole for the M/L band but on the regular Apple Sport band I wear it on the 4th whole from the end.

Was curious if anyone else noticed the same?

    Pillow.app question

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 04:24 AM PST

After reading several threads about Pillow here, I decided both to remove Pillow from my AW4 andto try Pillow's Automatic setting.

How exactly does Automatic setting work with naps? Will it detect when I am down for a nap or will I have to open Pillow on the AW4?

And once you have opted for the Automatic mode, how do you indicate, for instance, that you want Sleep Cycles Only, no alarm?

    Many thanks.

Is it possible to show heart rate from Apple Watch in real time on a Windows 10 PC?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 06:55 AM PST

Hi there, I would like to know the effects gaming has on my heart rate and would like to know if it's possible for me to use my Apple Watch S3 to measure my heart rate in short intervals (every few seconds) and then stream it (with the use of an Apple Watch app that allows me to pair my watch to my PC) to my PC.

My S4 will tap me when I cough

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 06:39 AM PST

So last few days I have had a little cold with sniffles and a cough, when ever I cough, I always cover my mouth, when I do this my S4 will tap me 3-4 short taps, I look at the watch immediately and there is never anything going on. Does this happen with anyone else? Is there a way to stop just this action n?

Is getting a Series 4 GPS by selling a Series 3 Cellular, worth it?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 05:47 AM PST

I bought an Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular 38mm 4 months back for a mobile project. Now I'm thinking to get buy the series 4 gps version. I would have to add 100$ to get the Series 4 GPS 40 mm. The Cellular eSim is not supported by any carrier in my country yet. What are your thoughts? Should I get the series 4?

Hey guys, so I've been using the series 1 ever since its release about 2+ years ago. Is it actually worth it to get the series 4? I basically just use it to work out/run, as I have a dress watch for other purposes

Apple Watch battery drain doing nothing

    Posted: 13 Jan 2019 09:25 PM PST

I exchanged my Apple Watch earlier today for a brand new one since there was a display issue on the old one. Wearing my new watch for the first time I've noticed that it's lost 10% of battery doing nothing while I have been browsing reddit for the past 20 minutes. The screen wasn't even on since I had theatre mode on. Is this a common problem and can I check my battery health like on the iphones?

    Best smart alarm

    Posted: 13 Jan 2019 09:14 PM PST

Right now the smart alarm that comes with pillow is the best option I've used. Looking for a smart alarm that also works during airplane mode so autosleep is ruled out.

    Watch gets locked while sleeping

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 02:57 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I have a question if someone did experience something similar or maybe has some advise for me.

I use my apple watch for sleep tracking with AutoSleep. It works very well, but it happened twice now that I woke up and my watch asked me for my code. I then had to realize that it doesn't track anything while it is locked.

So the big question is, why does the watch lock itself, while it's still on my wrist?

I don't wear it loose at all, some may say it's too tight, but my arm is fine with it. Sure it can move a bit around, but as it does that during the day aswell and never locks I don't think that's a problem. Plus the watch is in it's normal tight position when I wake up, but still is locked for like 4 hours already. I have wrist detection on, as otherwise it won't track some things, and obviously code set. I sleep with DND, theater mode and silent mode on, so there shouldn't be any accidental gestures on the watch while I sleep.

Did any one encounter a similar problem, or has an idea what I could try to prevent that?

Thanks in advance, and have a nice day :)

Are all sports loop velcro style bands hard to disconnect?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 01:21 AM PST

I have a knockoff sports loop strap that I really like (like this), but it an absolute terror to remove from the watch.

The side closest to me where the strap doubles up is always fine because the doubling up and the reinforced plastic end part make it stiff enough to side out of the watch. But the other end is too bendy/loose/wobbly/jelly to be able to slide it out of the mechanism on the watch, so I end up having to grab it with pliers when I want to swap bands, which might damage the watch and definitely damages the band.

Are they all like this just due to the design? Can you recommend a sports loop that isn't?

Watch S4 detect my touch but decided to do nothing.

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 03:15 AM PST

The apple watch Series 4 is very buggy, i have problem such as notification bar pop down unwantedly when i enter some app, turning crown will turn on screen at full brightness instead of slowly dimming and more. Restarting seems to fix most of them. BUT this is the problem i'm suffering:

The watch recognizes my touch, play click sound and also clicking animation but when i release the finger the button also release and do not input anything, i have to hold the button longer/ click it harder to get it to work. Is it hardware problem? It is so hard to enter password, use calculator or call from the watch. Maybe if i have time i will add a clip.
