Spectrum TV app black screen delay when using guide on ATV 4K

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 02:59 AM PST

Apple TV 4K on TVOS 12.1.1 on Samsung 4k TV. Using the recommended Belkin HDMI cable directly into the TV.

When using the Spectrum TV app and watching Live TV, swiping up gives a momentary (jarring) black screen before showing the recent channels (on 12.1.1 the delay is at the first swipe to recent channels, on 11.4 the delay was the second swipe to see the guide). Backing out of the guide without changing channels also has this delay. Very annoying.

We also have an ATV 4 on a 720p 32" on TVOS 12.1.1 and it does not have this delay at all.

    Did the following:

    -Turned on auto app updates

-Manually updated the Spectrum app (there was an update)

    -Same behavior

-Updated from TVOS 11.4 to 12.1.1

    -Same behavior

    -Deleted Spectrum app and reinstalled

Stumped now as this is annoying and not sure if it's due to the 4k version or what.

Ranty review of AppleTV 4/4K remote

Does the producers look any good in 4K?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 03:18 AM PST

It's only 3.99 but didn't know if it's worth buying quality wise.

Any way to set up passcode/etc so only one person can access it?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2019 09:05 AM PST

I'm looking for a way to set up a passcode to use the Apple TV.

I have shitty roommates and I have my big TV and ATV in the living room and so far no way to lock them out from using it.

I had set up a passcode to download apps but they just signed into their Apple ID on my ATV and I don't want that.

Is there any way or I just need to unplug and plug back in each time?

    Passcode not working with remote

    Posted: 13 Jan 2019 07:27 AM PST

Is it just me or did something change in the remote app where you can't type in your app passcode anymore? It used to be a keyboard would pop up so you could type your passcode without people seeing but now you have to select it on screen making the passcode idea pretty useless.

MacBook Air 2012 not compatible with AT4K for AirPlay?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2019 08:36 AM PST

We just got our Apple TV 4K and loving it; however, the wife can't seem to AirPlay from her 2012 MacBook Air.

After some research, seems like it may not be compatible?

Is there an update we need to make or a driver to download?

Or are there any alternatives that will allow her to AirPlay or mirror from MacBook to AT4K?

    Thanks in advance!

Belkin HDMI alternative that works with Dolby Vision that is longer than 2M?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2019 09:47 AM PST

I was having issues with my old HDMI cable that was supposedly rated but was causing momentary black outs between my AppleTV 4K and Sony 900F TV. It's struggled to maintain the Dolby TV connection with the AppleTV mentioning that the connection is having issues.

My tv is mounted, so the hdmi cable runs through the wall so the ideal length is 15'. However, the Belkin cable that everybody says works marvelously is only 2M (approx 7'). They don't seem to make a longer cable, is that due to quality loss over length? Can anybody provide an alternative that will surely work? TIA

Siri remote is bad at gaming

    Posted: 13 Jan 2019 06:22 AM PST

I play a lot of games on Apple TV like racing and snowboarding games. I use the Siri remote, but sometimes steering just resets to center randomly. It's just unpredictable. Any kind of gaming is frustrating with the Siri remote because you can't just rely on it.

I just wanted to share this.
