| 2012 MBP Retina Screen Replacement Posted: 27 Jan 2019 04:11 PM PST I have quick question regarding the MacBook Pro Displays. I recently damaged the my Mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina Display screen 15-inch. My friend offered me to sell his 2014 Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display laptop 15-inch for $100 because his logic board is not working. So, my question is if I buy his Macbook Pro can I use remove his display unit and put it on my laptop. Are the LCD displays compatible. I know that Mid-2012 and Early 2013 MBP Retinas are compatible. But I'm not sure about the 2014 models. Are the connector pins different for 2012 MBP RD compared to 2014 or 2013 or 2015? [link] [comments]  |
| Should I upgrade the memory on my 2010 iMac? Posted: 27 Jan 2019 09:24 AM PST My iMac has been running exceptionally slow lately. I'm no computer whiz but I'm betting I can speed things up by upgrading the memory. I'd rather spend ~$200 on an upgrade than spend $4000 for a new computer. Is there any down side to this? | MacBook Pro stuck around 75% on boot logo running Sierra Posted: 27 Jan 2019 03:12 PM PST The AppStore updated some Sierra software and rebooted to finish the install and I accidentally powered off my MB while it was installing. Now I'm stuck at the boot logo. I've tried booting in verbose mode and it gets stuck at 50% and I've been able to boot it into safe mode but when I enter my password it gets stuck at the white loading circle and never proceeds to my desktop. | Apple Music issues; please help Posted: 27 Jan 2019 08:42 PM PST I've had this problem with my Apple Music account, where I have multiple albums that do the same thing. What happens, is I select one song to play, since it has the correct title and is in the correct order in the album, but then an entirely different piece of music will play. However, the same title from before remains. This has been happening for a while, and I want to be able to listen to my music. I've tried hard resetting my phone, logging in, back out, and back in again, deleting the music and reinstalling, the lot. Help? :/ [link] [comments]  |

When I send it, it gives me the 'Delivered' statement...but I'm standing next to my friend and it does not show up on his iPhone. To be clear, my phone works fine, it's just one-off issues like this. But this had happened before as well here and there. Thoughts on why this is happening? If it makes a difference, I've always left on "send as SMS/text msg when iMessage not available". This send the message as a text message in a green box and that's fine. But in this scenarios, it's a blue text that says delivered and I'm looking at my friend's phone and he does not get it. | Connecting two HDMI monitors with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) Posted: 27 Jan 2019 02:05 PM PST I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) and with two ASUS VS248H-P 24". I have two of those HDMI cables going into a j5create USB 3.0 to Dual HDMI Multi-Monitor Adapter and that USB goes into my MacBook Pro. But, the USB adapter does not seem to detect any of my two monitors. I take this exact same setup and swap out the MacBook Pro for a regular Windows laptop and it works fine. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a laptop docking station? Why isn't my USB adapter picking up those two monitors? I probably need to use another port, don't I? Thanks. [link] [comments]  |
| Unresponsive Iphone 6 Model: A1549 Posted: 27 Jan 2019 07:59 PM PST I recently found an Iphone 6 that my parents no longer need (They forgot about it in a drawer) They told me it wasnt working but now im trying to figure out why, basically it wont power on, and wont charge. Also can not be detected in itunes. So does this mean its the screen or the battery? Im leaning more towards it being the battery since it wont even vibrate or anything. Today I sold my iPhone 7 as I just upgraded to a newer phone, I purchased the 7 brand new in December 2017 but not through an authorized retailer. It was a local guy. There was nothing wrong with it, I used it as my own phone until yesterday that I got a new one. I, of course, did a factory reset before selling, and the person I sold it to messaged me saying they got to a "Remote Management" screen and it wouldn't let them use it further. I googled it a bit and found the website "iactivate.host" which says they can bypass it for $45. It looks credible enough, but I wanted to ask if there are any other cheaper options? I found some listings on eBay for around $10 but I'm not sure if they're legit. Either way, I told the person I'd pay for the unlocking as I honestly did not know the phone had an MDM. I learned that its some software used for company phones given to employees, but I'm just curious as to why there wasn't an issue when I originally bought it and used it for over a year. Posted: 27 Jan 2019 07:40 PM PST I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that on Windows you just plug it in and it "just works", yet with macOS I've spent several hours trying to figure it out and I'm still at an absolute loss of how to achieve this.
I've seen this question come up in many other places, but the answer is often "it's complicated". Why should it be complicated? Android + Windows you just drag and drop. iOS + MacBook is rocket science? This is absolutely obnoxious. I thought Mac was supposed to be simple. | A MBP is suddenly working after years from liquid damage and I can't get into it Posted: 27 Jan 2019 02:44 AM PST Apparently I don't remember the login password and when I try to reset and logging in with Apple ID, it says "couldn't sign in because of server error". It's already been show to be connected to the wifi and Safari works when using the get help online option. The machine is encrypted and I don't have any passwords to turn it off etc. I haven't used this in years and I've switched phones since then that may contain the details. I've checked everywhere on my current phone. I just want my extensive music library that I thought was gone forever. Is there a way to get my data if I can't log in? [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 27 Jan 2019 05:31 PM PST Running a 2012 MBP. I've not had a problem with this at all until fairly recently. When I am at my desk I use an Apple Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard and I noticed (since getting this computer about 4 months ago) that from time to time the bluetooth will lose connection with the mouse and keyboard only to reconnect a moment later. Sometimes it takes a bit longer. I recently bought a pair of bluetooth headphones (August EP650s) that I've been using fairly steady and just in the last week or two I've been having more serious problems. It seem to occur most when I am watching anything online, but the audio cuts in an out and will lag and then skip ahead a second or two. If I skip ahead in the youtube video sometimes the headphones go quiet until I click the timeline again and then the sound cuts back in. I've tried the debug menu resetting the bluetooth module, removing all bluetooth devices and then reconnecting them. I've tried turning off bluetooth on every phone and computer in the house as well with no luck. Sometimes it will work fine, and then suddenly I am plagued with the problem. It is essentially the same issue outlined in this link: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/280722/macos-sometimes-cant-connect-to-wifi-hotspot-thats-really-working-perfectly I know that it isn't a problem with any wifi, as other devices (other MacBooks, iPhones) can all connect perfectly to the wifi. I have also driven around to try different wifi's and the issue still persists I have tried every possible solution that I've found researching, including forgetting networks, removing then re-adding the wifi service, restarting modems & laptops, but to no avail. | "Messages" app on mac deleted all my conversations Posted: 27 Jan 2019 05:00 PM PST So i restarted my computer and when messages opened all my conversations were gone. I have it set to save them "forever". I text from my computer a lot and delete texts off my phone, but like to keep the conversations on my computer and now they are all gone...When i went to the library/messages folder I have an attachments folder, chat.db, etc but no archives folder? I have an apple thunderbolt to VGA adaptor, but I can't find a VGA to RCA cable for TVs (not projectors). | Applying gift card to iCloud account when using two Apple IDs Posted: 27 Jan 2019 01:50 PM PST As long-time Mac users, I got my family MobileMe when it was a paid product before iCloud existed. Back then, I'm pretty sure you had to create an @me.com email address and use that as the iCloud account, and if you were an existing Apple user you would continue using your previous Apple ID for everything else (App Store, iTunes purchases, FaceTime, iMessage, et cetera). Several family members pay for additional iCloud storage and I've gotten them iTunes gift cards to cover the plans for a while. I'm wondering how I can have it apply to each person's iCloud account and not each person's Apple ID account that they use for everything else that's not iCloud itself. I think it's easy to do but when I tried to apply a gift card it kept directing me to the normal Apple ID and I don't want to apply it to that account. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]  |
| ICloud backups not downloading Posted: 27 Jan 2019 01:40 PM PST We recently upgraded one of our lines to an iPhone 8 from a 7. I use iCloud backups for everything including pictures and videos. While using the 7 I had no problems but with the 8 the entire backup will not upload to the cloud, mainly it seems to not include my pictures and videos even though they are selected to be included in the back up. It will show that the next back up should be around 35 GB but then only backup a few MB. I'm at a loss and would appreciate any help, thanks! [link] [comments]  |
| “Unable to update calendars...” in the iOS app Posted: 27 Jan 2019 01:05 PM PST So this past week I've noticed my calendar events aren't showing up on my phone whether it's in the app itself or notifications outside of it. When I go to the app there's a little circle with an exclamation mark beside the "Calendars" button at the bottom. When I tap it I go to a list of my calendars, the first section being iCloud calendars and then there's an "other" section with Birthdays and Holidays. The birthday and holidays have no problems, but under the iCloud section it just says "Unable to update calendars..." My iCloud calendars include 2 personal ones and 2 shared ones. All of these calendars work and show and sync on my iPad and Mac which are hooked up to the same iCloud account as the phone. I've checked through all the settings and tried numerous fixes I've found online such as:
Even at the earlier part of the week when I seemed to getting it working it would only last a couple days before the problem came back. I also have an Apple Watch hooked up to it if that matters at all, it also isn't getting any calendar information. | Yosemite to windows 10 iTunes content transfer Posted: 27 Jan 2019 10:07 AM PST I have a older apple that I'm not looking to upgrade and have a home built machine that will have windows 10 on it. I've transferred all the data my iTunes has (music, movies, TV shows) and have moved the iTunes library file over as well.
